¹He called the twelve TR reads “his twelve disciples” instead of “the twelve” together, and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.

¹ عیسی دوازده حواری را پیش خود خواند و به آنها قدرت و اختیار داد تا بر تمامی دیوها چیره شوند و بیماریها را درمان نمایند.

²He sent them forth to preach the Kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

² آنان را فرستاد تا پادشاهی خدا را اعلام كنند و مردم را شفا دهند.

³He said to them, “Take nothing for your journey—neither staffs, nor wallet, nor bread, nor money; neither have two coats apiece.

³ به آنان فرمود: «برای مسافرت هیچ چیز نبرید، نه چوبدستی، نه کوله‌بار و نه نان و نه پول و هیچ‌یک از شما نباید جامهٔ اضافی داشته باشد.

⁴ Into whatever house you enter, stay there, and depart from there.

⁴ هرگاه شما را در خانه‌ای می‌پذیرند تا وقتی در آن شهر هستید در آن خانه بمانید.

⁵ As many as don’t receive you, when you depart from that city, shake off even the dust from your feet for a testimony against them.”

⁵ امّا کسانی‌که شما را نمی‌پذیرند، وقتی شهرشان را ترک می‌کنید برای عبرت آنان گرد و خاک آن شهر را هم از پاهای خود بتکانید.»

⁶They departed, and went throughout the villages, preaching the Good News, and healing everywhere.

⁶ به این ترتیب آنها به راه افتادند و آبادی به آبادی می‌گشتند و در همه‌جا بشارت می‌دادند و بیماران را شفا می‌بخشیدند.

⁷Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him; and he was very perplexed, because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead,

⁷ در این روزها هیرودیس پادشاه از آنچه در جریان بود آگاهی یافت و سرگشته و پریشان شد چون عدّه‌ای می‌گفتند كه یحیای تعمید‌دهنده زنده شده است.

⁸and by some that Elijah had appeared, and by others that one of the old prophets had risen again.

⁸ عدّه‌ای نیز می‌گفتند كه الیاس ظهور كرده، عدّه‌ای هم می‌گفتند یكی از انبیای قدیم زنده شده است.

⁹Herod said, “John I beheaded, but who is this, about whom I hear such things?” He sought to see him.

⁹ امّا هیرودیس گفت: «من كه خود فرمان دادم سر یحیی را ببرند، ولی این كیست كه دربارهٔ او این چیزها را می‌شنوم؟» و سعی می‌کرد او را ببیند.

¹⁰The apostles, when they had returned, told him what things they had done. He took them, and withdrew apart to a deserted place of a city called Bethsaida.

¹⁰ وقتی رسولان برگشتند گزارش كارهایی را كه انجام داده بودند به عرض عیسی رسانیدند. او آنان را برداشت و به شهری به نام بیت‌صیدا برد و نگذاشت كسی دیگر همراه ایشان برود.

¹¹But the multitudes, perceiving it, followed him. He welcomed them, and spoke to them of the Kingdom of God, and he cured those who needed healing.

¹¹ امّا مردم باخبر شدند و به دنبال او به راه افتادند. ایشان را پذیرفت و برای ایشان دربارهٔ پادشاهی خدا صحبت كرد و كسانی را كه محتاج درمان بودند شفا داد.

¹²The day began to wear away; and the twelve came, and said to him, “Send the multitude away, that they may go into the surrounding villages and farms, and lodge, and get food, for we are here in a deserted place.”

¹² نزدیک غروب، دوازده حواری پیش او آمدند و عرض كردند: «این مردم را مرخّص فرما تا به دهکده‌ها و كشتزارهای اطراف بروند و برای خود منزل و خوراک پیدا كنند، چون ما در اینجا در محل دورافتاده‌ای هستیم.»

¹³But he said to them, “You give them something to eat.” They said, “We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we should go and buy food for all these people.”

¹³ او پاسخ داد: «شما خودتان به آنان غذا بدهید.» امّا شاگردان گفتند: «ما فقط پنج نان و دو ماهی داریم، مگر اینكه خودمان برویم و برای همهٔ این جماعت غذا بخریم.»

¹⁴For they were about five thousand men. He said to his disciples, “Make them sit down in groups of about fifty each.”

¹⁴ آنان در حدود پنج هزار مرد بودند. عیسی به شاگردان فرمود: «آنها را به دسته‌های پنجاه نفری بنشانید.»

¹⁵They did so, and made them all sit down.

¹⁵ شاگردان این كار را انجام دادند و همه را نشانیدند.

¹⁶He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to the sky, he blessed them, and broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude.

¹⁶ بعد عیسی آن پنج نان و دو ماهی را گرفت، چشم به آسمان دوخت و برای آن خوراک سپاسگزاری كرد. سپس نانها را پاره كرد و به شاگردان داد تا پیش مردم بگذارند.

¹⁷They ate, and were all filled. They gathered up twelve baskets of broken pieces that were left over.

¹⁷ همه خوردند و سیر شدند و دوازده سبد از خُرده‌های نان و ماهی جمع شد.

¹⁸It happened, as he was praying alone, that the disciples were with him, and he asked them, “Who do the multitudes say that I am?”

¹⁸ یک روز عیسی به تنهایی در حضور شاگردانش دعا می‌کرد از آنان پرسید: «مردم مرا كه می‌دانند؟»

¹⁹They answered, “‘John the Baptizer,’ but others say, ‘Elijah,’ and others, that one of the old prophets is risen again.”

¹⁹ جواب دادند: «بعضی‌ها می‌گویند تو یحیی تعمیددهنده‌ای، عدّه‌ای می‌گویند تو الیاس هستی و عدّه‌ای هم می‌گویند كه یكی از انبیای پیشین زنده شده است.»

²⁰He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”

²⁰ عیسی فرمود: «شما مرا كه می‌دانید؟» پطرس جواب داد: «مسیح خدا.»

²¹But he warned them, and commanded them to tell this to no one,

²¹ بعد به آنان دستور اكید داد كه این موضوع را به هیچ‌کس نگویند

²²saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and the third day be raised up.”

²² و ادامه داد «لازم است كه پسر انسان متحمّل رنجهای سختی شود و مشایخ یهود، سران كاهنان و علما او را رد كنند و او كشته شود و در روز سوم باز زنده گردد.»

²³He said to all, “If anyone desires to come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, TR, NU add “daily” and follow me.

²³ سپس به همه فرمود: «اگر كسی بخواهد پیرو من باشد باید دست از جان بشوید و همه روزه صلیب خود را بردارد و با من بیاید.

²⁴ For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever will lose his life for my sake, the same will save it.

²⁴ هرکه بخواهد جان خود را حفظ كند آن را از دست خواهد داد امّا هرکه به‌خاطر من جان خود را فدا كند آن را نگاه خواهد داشت.

²⁵ For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits his own self?

²⁵ برای آدمی چه سودی دارد كه تمام جهان را به دست بیاورد، امّا جان خود را از دست بدهد یا به آن آسیب برساند؟

²⁶ For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed, when he comes in his glory, and the glory of the Father, and of the holy angels.

²⁶ هرکه از من و تعالیم من عار داشته باشد پسر انسان نیز وقتی با جلال خود و جلال پدر و فرشتگان مقدّس بیاید از او عار خواهد داشت.

²⁷ But I tell you the truth: There are some of those who stand here, who will in no way taste of death, until they see the Kingdom of God.”

²⁷ یقین بدانید از کسانی‌که در اینجا ایستاده‌اند عدّه‌ای هستند كه تا پادشاهی خدا را نبینند طعم مرگ را نخواهند چشید.»

²⁸It happened about eight days after these sayings, that he took with him Peter, John, and James, and went up onto the mountain to pray.

²⁸ عیسی تقریباً یک هفته بعد از این گفت‌وگو، پطرس، یوحنا و یعقوب را برداشت و برای دعا به بالای كوه رفت.

²⁹As he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became white and dazzling.

²⁹ هنگامی‌که به دعا مشغول بود، نمای چهره‌اش تغییر كرد و لباسهایش از سفیدی می‌درخشید.

³⁰Behold, two men were talking with him, who were Moses and Elijah,

³⁰ ناگهان دو مرد یعنی موسی و الیاس در آنجا با او گفت‌وگو می‌کردند.

³¹who appeared in glory, and spoke of his departure, literally, “exodus” which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.

³¹ آنها با شكوه و جلال ظاهر گشتند و دربارهٔ رحلت او، یعنی آنچه كه می‌بایست در اورشلیم به انجام رسد، صحبت می‌کردند.

³²Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they were fully awake, they saw his glory, and the two men who stood with him.

³² در این موقع پطرس و همراهان او به خواب رفته بودند، امّا وقتی بیدار شدند جلال او و آن دو مردی را كه در كنار او ایستاده بودند مشاهده كردند.

³³It happened, as they were parting from him, that Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good for us to be here. Let’s make three tents: one for you, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah,” not knowing what he said.

³³ درحالی‌که آن دو نفر از نزد عیسی می‌رفتند پطرس به او عرض كرد: «ای استاد، چه خوب است كه ما در اینجا هستیم! سه سایبان بسازیم، یكی برای تو، یكی برای موسی، یكی هم برای الیاس.» پطرس بدون آنكه بفهمد چه می‌گوید این سخن را گفت.

³⁴While he said these things, a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered into the cloud.

³⁴ هنوز حرفش تمام نشده بود كه ابری آمد و بر آنان سایه افكند و وقتی ابر آنان را فراگرفت شاگردان ترسیدند.

³⁵A voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him!”

³⁵ از ابر ندایی آمد: «این است پسر من و برگزیدهٔ من، به او گوش دهید.»

³⁶When the voice came, Jesus was found alone. They were silent, and told no one in those days any of the things which they had seen.

³⁶ وقتی آن ندا به پایان رسید، آنها عیسی را تنها دیدند. آن سه نفر سكوت كردند و در آن روزها از آنچه دیده بودند چیزی به كسی نگفتند.

³⁷It happened on the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, that a great multitude met him.

³⁷ روز بعد وقتی از كوه پایین می‌آمدند جمعیّت زیادی در انتظار عیسی بود.

³⁸Behold, a man from the crowd called out, saying, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, for he is my only child.

³⁸ ناگهان مردی از وسط جمعیّت فریاد زد: «ای استاد، از تو التماس می‌کنم به پسر من، كه تنها فرزند من است، نظری بیاندازی.

³⁹Behold, a spirit takes him, he suddenly cries out, and it convulses him so that he foams, and it hardly departs from him, bruising him severely.

³⁹ روحی او را می‌گیرد و ناگهان نعره می‌کشد، كف از دهانش بیرون می‌آید و بدنش به تشنّج می‌افتد و با دشواری زیاد او را رها می‌کند.

⁴⁰I begged your disciples to cast it out, and they couldn’t.”

⁴⁰ از شاگردان تو تقاضا كردم كه آن روح را بیرون كنند امّا نتوانستند.»

⁴¹Jesus answered, “Faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.”

⁴¹ عیسی پاسخ داد: «مردمان این روزگار چقدر بی‌ایمان و فاسد هستند! تا كی با شما باشم و شما را تحمّل كنم؟ پسرت را به اینجا بیاور.»

⁴²While he was still coming, the demon threw him down and convulsed him violently. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the boy, and gave him back to his father.

⁴² امّا قبل از آنكه پسر به نزد عیسی برسد دیو او را به زمین زد و به تشنّج انداخت. عیسی با پرخاش به روح پلید دستور داد خارج شود و آن پسر را شفا بخشید و به پدرش بازگردانید.

⁴³They were all astonished at the majesty of God. But while all were marveling at all the things which Jesus did, he said to his disciples,

⁴³ همهٔ مردم از بزرگی خدا مات و مبهوت ماندند. درحالی‌كه عموم مردم از تمام كارهای عیسی در حیرت بودند عیسی به شاگردان فرمود:

⁴⁴ “Let these words sink into your ears, for the Son of Man will be delivered up into the hands of men.”

⁴⁴ «این سخن مرا به‌خاطر بسپارید: پسر انسان به دست آدمیان تسلیم خواهد شد.»

⁴⁵But they didn’t understand this saying. It was concealed from them, that they should not perceive it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying.

⁴⁵ امّا آنان نفهمیدند چه می‌گوید. مقصود عیسی به طوری برای آنان پوشیده بود كه آن را نفهمیدند و می‌ترسیدند آن را از او بپرسند.

⁴⁶There arose an argument among them about which of them was the greatest.

⁴⁶ مباحثه‌ای در میان آنان درگرفت كه چه كسی بین آنها از همه بزرگتر است.

⁴⁷Jesus, perceiving the reasoning of their hearts, took a little child, and set him by his side,

⁴⁷ عیسی فهمید كه در ذهنشان چه افكاری می‌گذرد، پس كودكی را گرفت و او را در كنار خود قرار داد

⁴⁸and said to them, “Whoever receives this little child in my name receives me. Whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For whoever is least among you all, this one will be great.”

⁴⁸ و به آنان فرمود: «هرکه این كودک را به نام من بپذیرد مرا پذیرفته است و هرکه مرا بپذیرد فرستندهٔ مرا پذیرفته است، زیرا در بین شما آن كسی بزرگتر است كه از همه كوچكتر می‌باشد.»

⁴⁹John answered, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he doesn’t follow with us.”

⁴⁹ یوحنا عرض كرد: «ای استاد، ما مردی را دیدیم كه با ذكر نام تو دیوها را بیرون می‌کرد امّا چون از ما نبود سعی كردیم مانع كار او شویم.»

⁵⁰Jesus said to him, “Don’t forbid him, for he who is not against us is for us.”

⁵⁰ عیسی به او فرمود: «با او كاری نداشته باشید زیرا هرکه ضد شما نباشد با شماست.»

⁵¹It came to pass, when the days were near that he should be taken up, he intently set his face to go to Jerusalem,

⁵¹ چون وقت آن رسید كه عیسی به آسمان برده شود با عزمی راسخ رو به اورشلیم نهاد

⁵²and sent messengers before his face. They went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, so as to prepare for him.

⁵² و قاصدانی پیشاپیش خود فرستاد. آنان حركت كردند و به دهکده‌ای در سرزمین سامریان وارد شدند تا برای او تدارک ببینند.

⁵³They didn’t receive him, because he was traveling with his face set towards Jerusalem.

⁵³ امّا مردمان آن ده نمی‌خواستند از او پذیرایی كنند، زیرا معلوم بود كه او عازم اورشلیم است.

⁵⁴When his disciples, James and John, saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from the sky, and destroy them, just as Elijah did?”

⁵⁴ وقتی یعقوب و یوحنا، شاگردان او، این جریان را دیدند، گفتند: «خداوندا، آیا می‌خواهی بگوییم از آسمان آتشی ببارد و همهٔ آنان را بسوزاند؟»

⁵⁵But he turned and rebuked them, “You don’t know of what kind of spirit you are.

⁵⁵ امّا او برگشت و آنان را سرزنش كرد

⁵⁶ For the Son of Man didn’t come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.” They went to another village.

⁵⁶ و روانهٔ دهكدهٔ دیگری شدند.

⁵⁷As they went on the way, a certain man said to him, “I want to follow you wherever you go, Lord.”

⁵⁷ در بین راه مردی به او عرض كرد: «هرجا بروی من به دنبال تو می‌آیم.»

⁵⁸Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”

⁵⁸ عیسی جواب داد: «روباهان، لانه و پرندگان، آشیانه دارند امّا پسر انسان جایی برای سرنهادن ندارد.»

⁵⁹He said to another, “Follow me!” But he said, “Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father.”

⁵⁹ عیسی به شخص دیگری فرمود: «با من بیا.» امّا او جواب داد: «ای آقا، بگذار اول بروم پدرم را به خاک بسپارم.»

⁶⁰But Jesus said to him, “Leave the dead to bury their own dead, but you go and announce the Kingdom of God.”

⁶⁰ عیسی فرمود: «بگذار مردگان، مردگان خود را به خاک بسپارند، تو باید بروی و پادشاهی خدا را در همه‌جا اعلام نمایی.»

⁶¹Another also said, “I want to follow you, Lord, but first allow me to say good-bye to those who are at my house.”

⁶¹ شخص دیگری گفت: «ای آقا، من با تو خواهم آمد امّا اجازه بفرما اول با خانواده‌ام خداحافظی كنم.» عیسی به او فرمود: «کسی‌که مشغول شخم زدن باشد و به عقب نگاه كند لیاقت آن را ندارد كه برای پادشاهی خدا خدمت كند.»

⁶²But Jesus said to him, “No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the Kingdom of God.”

⁶² عیسی به او فرمود: «کسی‌که مشغول شخم زدن باشد و به عقب نگاه كند لیاقت آن را ندارد كه برای پادشاهی خدا خدمت كند.»
