¹Again he began to teach by the seaside. A great multitude was gathered to him, so that he entered into a boat in the sea, and sat down. All the multitude were on the land by the sea.

¹ عیسی باز هم در كنار دریاچهٔ جلیل به تعلیم مردم پرداخت. جمعیّت زیادی دور او جمع شدند، به طوری که مجبور شد به قایقی كه روی آب بود، سوار شود و در آن بنشیند. مردم در كنار ساحل ایستاده بودند

²He taught them many things in parables, and told them in his teaching,

² و او با مَثَل تعالیم زیادی به آنها داد. در ضمن تعلیم به آنها گفت:

³ “Listen! Behold, the farmer went out to sow,

³ «گوش كنید: برزگری برای كاشتن بذر به صحرا رفت.

⁴ and it happened, as he sowed, some seed fell by the road, and the birds TR adds “of the air” came and devoured it.

⁴ وقتی مشغول پاشیدن بذر بود، مقداری از بذرها در راه افتاد و پرندگان آمده آنها را خوردند.

⁵ Others fell on the rocky ground, where it had little soil, and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of soil.

⁵ بعضی از بذرها روی سنگلاخ، جایی‌كه خاک كم بود افتاد و چون زمین عمقی نداشت، زود سبز شد.

⁶ When the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

⁶ امّا وقتی خورشید بر آنها تابید، همه سوختند و چون ریشه‌ای نداشتند، خشک شدند.

⁷ Others fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

⁷ مقداری از بذرها در میان خارها افتادند و خارها رشد كرده آنها را خفه كردند و جوانه‌ها حاصلی نیاوردند.

⁸ Others fell into the good ground, and yielded fruit, growing up and increasing. Some brought forth thirty times, some sixty times, and some one hundred times as much.”

⁸ و بعضی از بذرها در داخل خاک خوب افتادند و سبز شده، رشد كردند و ثمر آوردند و حاصل آنها سی برابر، شصت برابر و صد برابر بود.»

⁹He said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let him hear.”

⁹ و بعد عیسی اضافه كرد: «هرکه گوش شنوا دارد، بشنود.»

¹⁰When he was alone, those who were around him with the twelve asked him about the parables.

¹⁰ وقتی عیسی تنها بود، همراهانش با آن دوازده نفر دربارهٔ این مَثَلها از او سؤال كردند.

¹¹He said to them, “To you is given the mystery of the Kingdom of God, but to those who are outside, all things are done in parables,

¹¹ او جواب داد: «قدرت درک اسرار پادشاهی خدا به شما عطا شده است امّا برای دیگران همه‌چیز به صورت مَثَل بیان می‌شود

¹² that ‘seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest perhaps they should turn again, and their sins should be forgiven them.’” Isaiah 6:9-10

¹² تا: 'دایماً نگاه كنند و چیزی نبینند، پیوسته بشنوند و چیزی نفهمند، مبادا به سوی خدا برگردند و آمرزیده شوند.'»

¹³He said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How will you understand all of the parables?

¹³ سپس عیسی به آنها گفت: «شما این مَثَل را نمی‌فهمید؟ پس چگونه سایر مثلها را خواهید فهمید؟

¹⁴ The farmer sows the word.

¹⁴ برزگر، كلام خدا را پخش می‌کند.

¹⁵ The ones by the road are the ones where the word is sown; and when they have heard, immediately Satan comes, and takes away the word which has been sown in them.

¹⁵ دانه‌هایی كه در كنار راه می‌افتند كسانی هستند كه به محض اینکه كلام خدا را می‌شنوند، شیطان می‌آید و كلامی را كه در دلهایشان كاشته شده است می‌رباید.

¹⁶ These in the same way are those who are sown on the rocky places, who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy.

¹⁶ دانه‌هایی كه در زمین سنگلاخ می‌افتد، مانند كسانی هستند كه به محض شنیدن كلام خدا با خوشحالی آن را قبول می‌کنند.

¹⁷ They have no root in themselves, but are short-lived. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they stumble.

¹⁷ امّا كلام در آنها ریشه نمی‌گیرد و دوامی ندارد و وقتی به‌خاطر كلام، زحمت و یا گرفتاری برای آنها پیش می‌آید، فوراً دلسرد می‌شوند.

¹⁸ Others are those who are sown among the thorns. These are those who have heard the word,

¹⁸ دانه‌هایی كه در میان خارها می‌افتند، مانند كسانی هستند كه كلام را می‌شنوند

¹⁹ and the cares of this age, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.

¹⁹ امّا نگرانی‌های زندگی و عشق به مال دنیا و هوی و هوس و چیزهای دیگر، داخل می‌شوند و كلام را خفه می‌کنند و آن را بی‌ثمر می‌سازند.

²⁰ Those which were sown on the good ground are those who hear the word, and accept it, and bear fruit, some thirty times, some sixty times, and some one hundred times.”

²⁰ و بذرهایی كه در خاک خوب می‌افتند مانند كسانی هستند كه كلام را می‌شنوند و از آن استقبال می‌کنند و سی برابر و شصت برابر و صد برابر ثمر می‌آورند.»

²¹He said to them, “Is the lamp brought to be put under a basket literally, a modion, a dry measuring basket containing about a peck (about 9 litres) or under a bed? Isn’t it put on a stand?

²¹ عیسی به آنها فرمود: «آیا كسی چراغ را می‌آورد تا آن را زیر تشت یا تخت بگذارد؟ البتّه نه، آن را می‌آورد تا روی چراغ‌پایه‌ای بگذارد.

²² For there is nothing hidden, except that it should be made known; neither was anything made secret, but that it should come to light.

²² هیچ چیز پنهانی نیست كه آشكار نگردد و هیچ چیز پوشیده‌ای نیست كه پرده از رویش برداشته نشود.

²³ If any man has ears to hear, let him hear.”

²³ اگر گوش شنوا دارید، بشنوید.»

²⁴He said to them, “Take heed what you hear. With whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you, and more will be given to you who hear.

²⁴ باز به آنها فرمود: «در آنچه می‌شنوید دقّت كنید. با هر پیمانه‌ای كه بدهید، با همان پیمانه هم می‌گیرید و چیزی هم علاوه بر آن دریافت می‌دارید.

²⁵ For whoever has, to him will more be given, and he who doesn’t have, even that which he has will be taken away from him.”

²⁵ هرکه دارد به او بیشتر داده خواهد شد و آنکه ندارد آنچه را هم دارد، از دست خواهد داد.»

²⁶He said, “The Kingdom of God is as if a man should cast seed on the earth,

²⁶ عیسی فرمود: «پادشاهی خدا، مانند مردی است كه در مزرعهٔ خود بذر می‌پاشد.

²⁷ and should sleep and rise night and day, and the seed should spring up and grow, he doesn’t know how.

²⁷ دانه سبز می‌شود و رشد می‌کند امّا چطور؟ او نمی‌داند. شب و روز، چه او در خواب باشد و چه بیدار،

²⁸ For the earth bears fruit: first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.

²⁸ زمین به خودی خود سبب می‌شود كه گیاه بروید و ثمر بیاورد؛ اول جوانه، بعد خوشه و بعد دانهٔ رسیده در داخل خوشه.

²⁹ But when the fruit is ripe, immediately he puts forth the sickle, because the harvest has come.”

²⁹ امّا به محض اینکه محصول می‌رسد، او با داس خود به كار مشغول می‌شود، چون موسم درو رسیده است.»

³⁰He said, “How will we liken the Kingdom of God? Or with what parable will we illustrate it?

³⁰ عیسی فرمود: «پادشاهی خدا را به چه چیزی تشبیه كنم و یا با چه مَثَلی آن را شرح بدهم؟

³¹ It’s like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, though it is less than all the seeds that are on the earth,

³¹ مانند دانهٔ خَردَلی است كه در زمین كاشته می‌شود. خردل كوچكترین دانه‌های روی زمین است،

³² yet when it is sown, grows up, and becomes greater than all the herbs, and puts out great branches, so that the birds of the sky can lodge under its shadow.”

³² امّا وقتی‌که كاشته شود، رشد می‌کند و از هر بوتهٔ دیگری بلندتر می‌گردد و شاخه‌های آن به‌ اندازه‌ای بزرگ می‌شود كه پرندگان می‌توانند در میان شاخه‌های آن لانه بسازند.»

³³With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it.

³³ عیسی با مثلهای زیادی از این قبیل، پیام خود را تا آنجا كه آنها قادر به فهم آن بودند، برای مردم بیان می‌کرد

³⁴Without a parable he didn’t speak to them; but privately to his own disciples he explained everything.

³⁴ و برای آنها بدون مَثَل چیزی نمی‌گفت. امّا وقتی تنها بودند، همه‌چیز را برای شاگردان خود شرح می‌داد.

³⁵On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let’s go over to the other side.”

³⁵ عصر همان روز عیسی به شاگردان فرمود: «به آن طرف دریا برویم.»

³⁶Leaving the multitude, they took him with them, even as he was, in the boat. Other small boats were also with him.

³⁶ پس آنها جمعیّت را ترک كردند و او را با همان قایقی كه در آن نشسته بود، بردند و قایقهای دیگری هم همراه آنها بود.

³⁷A big wind storm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so much that the boat was already filled.

³⁷ توفان شدیدی برخاست و امواج به قایق می‌زد به طوری که نزدیک بود، قایق غرق شود.

³⁸He himself was in the stern, asleep on the cushion, and they woke him up, and told him, “Teacher, don’t you care that we are dying?”

³⁸ در این موقع عیسی در عقب قایق، سر خود را روی بالشی گذارده و خوابیده بود. شاگردانش او را بیدار كردند و به او گفتند: «ای استاد، مگر در فكر ما نیستی؟ نزدیک است غرق شویم!»

³⁹He awoke, and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” The wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

³⁹ او برخاست و با پرخاش به باد فرمان داد و به دریا گفت: «ساكت و آرام شو.» باد ایستاد و آرامش كامل برقرار شد.

⁴⁰He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? How is it that you have no faith?”

⁴⁰ بعد عیسی به ایشان فرمود: «چرا این‌قدر ترسیده‌اید؟ آیا هنوز ایمان ندارید؟» آنها وحشت‌زده به یكدیگر می‌گفتند: «این كیست كه حتّی باد و دریا هم از او اطاعت می‌کنند؟»

⁴¹They were greatly afraid, and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”

⁴¹ آنها وحشت‌زده به یكدیگر می‌گفتند: «این كیست كه حتّی باد و دریا هم از او اطاعت می‌کنند؟»
