¹In those days, when there was a very great multitude, and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to himself, and said to them,

¹ در آن روزها بار دیگر جمعیّت زیادی دور عیسی جمع شدند و چون غذایی نداشتند عیسی شاگردان را خواند و به ایشان فرمود:

² “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have stayed with me now three days, and have nothing to eat.

² «دل من به حال این جمعیّت می‌سوزد. سه روز است كه آنها با من هستند و چیزی برای خوردن ندارند.

³ If I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint on the way, for some of them have come a long way.”

³ اگر آنها را گرسنه به منزل بفرستیم، در بین راه از حال خواهند رفت، چون بعضی از آنها از راه دور آمده‌اند.»

⁴His disciples answered him, “From where could one satisfy these people with bread here in a deserted place?”

⁴ شاگردان در جواب گفتند: «چگونه می‌توان در این بیابان، برای آنها غذا تهیّه كرد؟»

⁵He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.”

⁵ عیسی پرسید: «چند نان دارید؟» آنها جواب دادند: «هفت نان.»

⁶He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground, and he took the seven loaves. Having given thanks, he broke them, and gave them to his disciples to serve, and they served the multitude.

⁶ پس به مردم دستور داد روی زمین بنشینند. آنگاه هفت نان را گرفت و بعد از شكرگزاری به درگاه خدا، نانها را پاره كرد و به شاگردان داد تا بین مردم تقسیم كنند، شاگردان نانها را بین مردم تقسیم كردند.

⁷They had a few small fish. Having blessed them, he said to serve these also.

⁷ همچنین چند ماهی كوچک داشتند. عیسی، خدا را برای آنها شكر كرد و دستور داد آنها را بین مردم تقسیم نمایند.

⁸They ate, and were filled. They took up seven baskets of broken pieces that were left over.

⁸ همه خوردند و سیر شدند و هفت زنبیل پر از خُرده‌های باقیمانده، جمع كردند.

⁹Those who had eaten were about four thousand. Then he sent them away.

⁹ آنها در حدود چهار هزار نفر بودند. عیسی ایشان را مرخّص فرمود.

¹⁰Immediately he entered into the boat with his disciples, and came into the region of Dalmanutha.

¹⁰ پس از آن فوراً با شاگردان خود در قایق نشست و به منطقهٔ دلمانوته رفت.

¹¹The Pharisees came out and began to question him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, and testing him.

¹¹ فریسیان پیش عیسی آمده و با او به بحث پرداختند و از روی امتحان از او نشانه‌ای آسمانی خواستند.

¹²He sighed deeply in his spirit, and said, “Why does this generation The word translated “generation” here (genea) could also be translated “people,” “race,” or “family.” seek a sign? Most certainly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

¹² عیسی از دل آهی كشید و فرمود: «چرا مردمان این زمانه به دنبال نشانه‌ای هستند؟ یقین بدانید هیچ نشانه‌ای به آنان داده نخواهد شد.»

¹³He left them, and again entering into the boat, departed to the other side.

¹³ پس از آن عیسی آنان را ترک كرد و دوباره در قایق نشست و به طرف دیگر دریا رفت.

¹⁴They forgot to take bread; and they didn’t have more than one loaf in the boat with them.

¹⁴ شاگردان فراموش كرده بودند كه با خود نان ببرند و در قایق بیش از یک نان نداشتند.

¹⁵He warned them, saying, “Take heed: beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”

¹⁵ عیسی به ایشان فرمود: «از خمیرمایهٔ فریسیان و خمیرمایهٔ هیرودیس برحذر باشید و احتیاط كنید.»

¹⁶They reasoned with one another, saying, “It’s because we have no bread.”

¹⁶ شاگردان در بین خود بحث كرده گفتند: «چون ما نان نیاورده‌ایم، او این را می‌گوید.»

¹⁷Jesus, perceiving it, said to them, “Why do you reason that it’s because you have no bread? Don’t you perceive yet, neither understand? Is your heart still hardened?

¹⁷ عیسی می‌دانست آنها به هم چه می‌گویند. پس به ایشان فرمود: «چرا دربارهٔ نداشتن نان با هم بحث می‌کنید؟ مگر هنوز درک نمی‌کنید و نمی‌فهمید؟ آیا هنوز دل و ذهن شما كور است؟

¹⁸ Having eyes, don’t you see? Having ears, don’t you hear? Don’t you remember?

¹⁸ شما كه هم چشم دارید و هم گوش آیا نمی‌بینید و نمی‌شنوید؟ آیا فراموش کرده‌اید

¹⁹ When I broke the five loaves among the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They told him, “Twelve.”

¹⁹ كه چگونه آن پنج نان را بین پنج هزار مرد تقسیم كردم؟ آن موقع چند سبد از خُرده‌های نان جمع كردید؟» گفتند: «دوازده سبد.»

²⁰ “When the seven loaves fed the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They told him, “Seven.”

²⁰ عیسی پرسید: «وقتی نان را بین چهار هزار نفر تقسیم كردم، چند سبد از خرده‌های نانها جمع كردید؟» گفتند: «هفت سبد.»

²¹He asked them, “Don’t you understand, yet?”

²¹ پس عیسی به ایشان فرمود: «آیا باز هم نمی‌فهمید؟»

²²He came to Bethsaida. They brought a blind man to him, and begged him to touch him.

²² عیسی و شاگردان به بیت‌صیدا رسیدند. در آنجا كوری را پیش عیسی آوردند و از او خواهش كردند كه دست خود را روی آن كور بگذارد.

²³He took hold of the blind man by the hand, and brought him out of the village. When he had spit on his eyes, and laid his hands on him, he asked him if he saw anything.

²³ او دست كور را گرفت و او را از دهكده بیرون برد. بعد به چشمهایش آب دهان مالید و دستهای خود را روی او گذاشت و پرسید: «آیا چیزی می‌بینی؟»

²⁴He looked up, and said, “I see men; for I see them like trees walking.”

²⁴ او به بالا نگاه كرد و گفت: «مردم را مثل درختهایی می‌بینم كه حركت می‌کنند.»

²⁵Then again he laid his hands on his eyes. He looked intently, and was restored, and saw everyone clearly.

²⁵ عیسی دوباره دستهای خود را روی چشمهای او گذاشت. آن مرد با دقّت نگاه كرد و شفا یافت و دیگر همه‌چیز را به خوبی می‌دید.

²⁶He sent him away to his house, saying, “Don’t enter into the village, nor tell anyone in the village.”

²⁶ عیسی او را به منزل فرستاد و به او فرمود كه به آن ده برنگردد.

²⁷Jesus went out, with his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do men say that I am?”

²⁷ عیسی و شاگردان به دهکده‌های اطراف قیصریهٔ فیلیپُس رفتند. در بین راه عیسی از شاگردان پرسید: «مردم مرا چه كسی می‌دانند؟»

²⁸They told him, “John the Baptizer, and others say Elijah, but others: one of the prophets.”

²⁸ آنها جواب دادند: «بعضی می‌گویند تو یحیای تعمید‌دهنده هستی. عدّه‌ای می‌گویند تو الیاس و عدّه‌ای هم می‌گویند كه یكی از انبیا هستی.»

²⁹He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ.”

²⁹ از ایشان پرسید: «به عقیده شما من كیستم؟» پطرس جواب داد: «تو مسیح هستی.»

³⁰He commanded them that they should tell no one about him.

³⁰ بعد عیسی به آنان دستور داد كه دربارهٔ او به هیچ‌کس چیزی نگویند.

³¹He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

³¹ آنگاه عیسی به تعلیم شاگردان پرداخت و گفت: «لازم است پسر انسان متحمّل رنجهای زیادی شده و به وسیلهٔ رهبران و سران كاهنان و علما طرد و كشته شود و پس از سه روز زنده گردد.»

³²He spoke to them openly. Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

³² عیسی این موضوع را بسیار صریح گفت. به طوری که پطرس او را به گوشه‌ای برده، سرزنش كرد.

³³But he, turning around, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you have in mind not the things of God, but the things of men.”

³³ امّا عیسی برگشت و به شاگردان نگاهی كرد و با پرخاش به پطرس گفت: «از من دور شو، ای شیطان، افكار تو افكار انسانی است، نه خدایی.»

³⁴He called the multitude to himself with his disciples, and said to them, “Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

³⁴ پس عیسی مردم و همچنین شاگردانش را پیش خود خواند و به ایشان فرمود: «اگر كسی بخواهد از من پیروی كند، باید خود را فراموش كرده، صلیب خود را بردارد و به دنبال من بیاید.

³⁵ For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the sake of the Good News will save it.

³⁵ زیرا هرکه بخواهد جان خود را حفظ كند، آن را از دست خواهد داد، امّا هرکه به‌خاطر من و انجیل جان خود را فدا كند، آن را نجات خواهد داد.

³⁶ For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?

³⁶ چه سود دارد كه آدم تمام جهان را ببرد امّا جان خود را ببازد؟

³⁷ For what will a man give in exchange for his life?

³⁷ و انسان چه می‌تواند بدهد تا جان خود را باز یابد؟ بنابراین، هرکه از من و تعالیم من در این زمانهٔ گناه‌آلود و فاسد عار داشته باشد، پسر انسان هم در وقتی‌که در جلال پدر خود با فرشتگان مقدّس می‌آید، از او عار خواهد داشت.»

³⁸ For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also will be ashamed of him, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

³⁸ بنابراین، هرکه از من و تعالیم من در این زمانهٔ گناه‌آلود و فاسد عار داشته باشد، پسر انسان هم در وقتی‌که در جلال پدر خود با فرشتگان مقدّس می‌آید، از او عار خواهد داشت.»
