¹The words of Nehemiah the son of Hacaliah. Now it happened in the month Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace,

¹ این است گزارش کارهایی که نحمیا پسر حکلیا انجام داد: در ماه کسلُو، در بیستمین سال سلطنت اردشیر شاهنشاه پارس، در پایتخت یعنی شهر شوش بودم.

²that Hanani, one of my brothers, came, he and certain men out of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped, who were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.

² حنانی، یکی از برادرانم با گروهی از سرزمین یهودا به آنجا آمدند و من از آنان دربارهٔ اورشلیم و یهودیانی که از تبعید بابل بازگشته بودند، سؤال کردم.

³They said to me, “The remnant who are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”

³ ایشان گفتند که آنانی‌که زنده مانده‌اند و به میهن بازگشته‌اند با دشواری روبه‌رو هستند و بیگانگانی که در آن اطراف زندگی می‌کنند با حقارت به ایشان می‌نگرند. ایشان همچنین گفتند که دیوارهای اورشلیم هنوز ویران است و دروازه‌های آن از زمانی که در آتش سوخته شده‌اند بازسازی نشده‌اند.

⁴It happened, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned certain days; and I fasted and prayed before the God The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” of heaven,

⁴ هنگامی‌که این خبر را شنیدم، نشستم و گریه کردم. چندین روز سوگواری کردم و چیزی نخوردم و به حضور خدا دعا کردم:

⁵and said, “I beg you, Yahweh, “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. the God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and keep his commandments:

⁵ «ای خداوند، خدای آسمانها! تو بزرگ و شگفت‌انگیز هستی. تو عهد خود را با امانت، با آنانی که تو را دوست دارند و فرامین تو را انجام می‌دهند، نگاه می‌داری.

⁶Let your ear now be attentive, and your eyes open, that you may listen to the prayer of your servant, which I pray before you at this time, day and night, for the children of Israel your servants while I confess the sins of the children of Israel, which we have sinned against you. Yes, I and my father’s house have sinned.

⁶ خداوندا بر من نظر کن و دعای مرا بشنو؛ دعایی که روز و شب برای بندگانت، قوم اسرائیل می‌کنم. من اعتراف می‌‌کنم که ما مردم اسرائیل، مرتکب گناه شده‌ایم. من و نیاکانم برضد تو گناه کرده‌ایم.

⁷We have dealt very corruptly against you, and have not kept the commandments, nor the statutes, nor the ordinances, which you commanded your servant Moses.

⁷ ما برضد تو شرارت ورزیده‌ و فرمانهای تو را انجام نداده‌ایم. ما از قوانینی که توسط بنده‌ات موسی به ما دادی پیروی نکرده‌ایم.

⁸“Remember, I beg you, the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you trespass, I will scatter you abroad among the peoples;

⁸ اکنون سخنانی را که به بندهٔ خود موسی گفتی، به یادآور: 'اگر شما مردم اسرائیل، با من بی‌وفا باشید، شما را در میان ملّتها پراکنده خواهم ساخت،

⁹but if you return to me, and keep my commandments and do them, though your outcasts were in the uttermost part of the heavens, yet will I gather them from there, and will bring them to the place that I have chosen, to cause my name to dwell there.’

⁹ امّا اگر به سوی من بازگردید و از فرمانهای من پیروی کنید، من شما را به مکانی که برای ستایش خود برگزیده‌ام، باز می‌گردانم؛ حتّی اگر در سرزمین‌های دوردست پراکنده شده باشید.'

¹⁰“Now these are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power, and by your strong hand.

¹⁰ «ایشان بندگان و قوم تو هستند؛ تو ایشان را با نیروی عظیم و دست توانای خود رهایی دادی. اکنون ای خداوند، دعای من و بندگان دیگرت را که می‌خواهند تو را تکریم کنند، بشنو. امروز مرا کامیاب فرما و شاهنشاه را نسبت به من مهربان گردان.» در آن زمان من ساقی شاهنشاه بودم.

¹¹ Lord The word translated “Lord” is “Adonai.” , I beg you, let your ear be attentive now to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants, who delight to fear your name; and please prosper your servant this day, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.” Now I was cup bearer to the king.

¹¹ اکنون ای خداوند، دعای من و بندگان دیگرت را که می‌خواهند تو را تکریم کنند، بشنو. امروز مرا کامیاب فرما و شاهنشاه را نسبت به من مهربان گردان.» در آن زمان من ساقی شاهنشاه بودم.
