¹ Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

¹ در روز اول ماه دوم از سال دوم، بعد از آنکه قوم اسرائیل از مصر خارج شدند، در صحرای سینا، خداوند در خیمهٔ عبادت به موسی فرمود:

²“Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, every male, one by one;

² «تمام قوم اسرائیل را برحسب خاندان و خانواده‌شان سرشماری کن.

³from twenty years old and upward, all who are able to go out to war in Israel. You and Aaron shall number them by their divisions.

³ تو و هارون، تمام مردان بیست ساله و بالاتر را که قادر به جنگیدن باشند، سرشماری کنید،

⁴With you there shall be a man of every tribe; everyone head of his fathers’ house.

⁴ و سرکردهٔ هر خاندان باید در این سرشماری کمک کند.»

⁵These are the names of the men who shall stand with you: Of Reuben: Elizur the son of Shedeur.

⁵ این است نامهای رهبران هر طایفه: طايفهرئیس خاندان از طایفهٔ رئوبین:الیصور، پسر شدیئور از طایفهٔ شمعون:شلومِئیل، پسر صوریشدای از طایفهٔ یهودا:نحشون، پسر عمیناداب؛ از طایفهٔ یساکار:نتنائیل، پسر صوغر؛ از طایفهٔ زبولون:الیاب، پسر حیلون؛ از طایفهٔ افرایم:الیشمع، پسر عمیهود؛ از طایفهٔ منسی:جملیئیل، پسر فدهصور؛ از طایفهٔ بنیامین:ابیدان، پسر جدعونی؛ از طایفهٔ دان:اخیعزر، پسر عمیشدای؛ از طایفهٔ اشیر:فجعیئیل، پسر عکران؛ از طایفهٔ جاد:الیاساف، پسر دعوئیل؛ از طایفهٔ نفتالی:اخیرع، عینان؛

⁶Of Simeon: Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.

⁶ اشخاص فوق، سرکردگان قوم اسرائیل بودند که برای این‌کار انتخاب شدند.

⁷Of Judah: Nahshon the son of Amminadab.

⁷ در همان روز موسی، هارون و سرکردگان طایفه‌ها، تمام مردان بیست ساله و مسن‌‌تر را برای نام‌نویسی در صحرای سینا، فراخواندند و همان‌طور که خداوند به موسی امر فرموده بود، هرکس برحسب خاندان و خانواده‌اش نام‌نویسی شد.

⁸Of Issachar: Nethanel the son of Zuar.

⁸ نتیجهٔ نهایی سرشماری از این قرار بود: از طایفهٔ رئوبین پسر اول یعقوب: تمام مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالاتر و آمادهٔ خدمت سربازی بودند، برحسب طایفه و خاندانشان سرشماری کرد؛ تعدادشان چهل و شش هزار و پانصد نفر بود.

⁹Of Zebulun: Eliab the son of Helon.

⁹ از طایفهٔ شمعون: تمام مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالاتر و برای خدمت سربازی آماده بودند، برحسب طایفه و خاندانشان سرشماری کرد؛ تعدادشان پنجاه و نه هزار و سیصد نفر بود.

¹⁰Of the children of Joseph: Of Ephraim: Elishama the son of Ammihud. Of Manasseh: Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur.

¹⁰ از طایفهٔ جاد: تمام مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالاتر و برای خدمت سربازی آماده بودند، برحسب طایفه و خاندانشان سرشماری کرد؛ تعدادشان چهل و پنج هزار ششصد و پنجاه نفر بود.

¹¹Of Benjamin: Abidan the son of Gideoni.

¹¹ از طایفهٔ یهودا: تمام مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالاتر و برای خدمت سربازی آماده بودند، برحسب طایفه و خاندانشان سرشماری کرد؛ تعدادشان هفتاد و چهار هزار و ششصد نفر بود.

¹²Of Dan: Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai.

¹² از طایفهٔ یساکار: تمام مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالاتر و برای خدمت سربازی آماده بودند، برحسب طایفه و خاندانشان سرشماری کرد؛ تعدادشان پنجاه و چهار هزار و چهارصد نفر بود.

¹³Of Asher: Pagiel the son of Ochran.

¹³ از طایفهٔ زبولون: تمام مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالاتر و برای خدمت سربازی آماده بودند، برحسب طایفه و خاندانشان سرشماری کرد؛ تعدادشان پنجاه و هفت هزار و چهارصد نفر بود.

¹⁴Of Gad: Eliasaph the son of Deuel.

¹⁴ از طایفهٔ افرایم پسر یوسف: تمام مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالاتر و براى خدمت سربازی آماده بودند، برحسب طایفهٔ خاندانشان سرشماری کرد؛ تعدادشان چهل هزار و پانصد نفر بود.

¹⁵Of Naphtali: Ahira the son of Enan.”

¹⁵ از منسی پسر یوسف: تمام مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالاتر و برای خدمت سربازی آماده بودند، برحسب طایفه و خاندانشان سرشماری کرد؛ تعدادشان سی و دو هزار و دویست نفر بود.

¹⁶These are those who were called of the congregation, the princes of the tribes of their fathers; they were the heads of the thousands of Israel.

¹⁶ از طایفهٔ بنیامین: تمام مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالاتر و برای خدمت سربازی آماده بودند، بر حسب طایفه و خاندانشان سرشماری کرد؛ تعدادشان سی و پنج هزار و چهارصد نفر بود.

¹⁷Moses and Aaron took these men who are mentioned by name.

¹⁷ از طایفهٔ دان: تمام مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالاتر و برای خدمت سربازی آماده بودند، برحسب طایفه و خاندانشان سرشماری کرد؛ تعدادشان شصت و دو هزار و هفتصد نفر بود.

¹⁸They assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month; and they declared their ancestry by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, one by one.

¹⁸ از طایفهٔ اشیر: تمام مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالاتر و برای خدمت سربازی آماده بودند، برحسب طایفه و خاندانشان سرشماری کرد؛ تعدادشان چهل و یک‌هزار و پانصد نفر بود.

¹⁹As Yahweh commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai.

¹⁹ از طایفهٔ نفتالی: تمام مردانی را که بیست ساله و بالاتر و برای خدمت سربازی آماده بودند، برحسب طایفه و خاندانشان سرشماری کرد؛ تعدادشان پنجاه و سه هزار و چهارصد نفر بود.

²⁰The children of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²⁰ این آمار کسانی است که توسط موسی، هارون و دوازده نفر از سران اسرائیل که هرکدام نماینده یک طایفهٔ بودند، سرشماری شدند.

²¹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Reuben, were forty-six thousand five hundred.

²¹ تعداد تمام کسانی‌که در قوم اسرائیل بیست ساله و مسن‌تر و قادر به جنگیدن بودند ششصد و سه هزار و پانصد و پنجاه نفر بود.

²²Of the children of Simeon, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, those who were numbered of it, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²² این سرشماری شامل طایفهٔ لاوی نبود.

²³those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty-nine thousand three hundred.

²³ زیرا خداوند به موسی فرموده بود: «طایفهٔ لاوی باید از سربازی معاف باشد.

²⁴Of the children of Gad, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²⁴ وظایف آنها مربوط به خیمهٔ عبادت و نگهداری از وسایل و لوازم آن است و آنها باید در اطراف خیمه اردو بزنند.

²⁵those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Gad, were forty-five thousand six hundred fifty.

²⁵ در هنگام نقل مکان لاویان باید آن را جمع کنند و آنها مسئول برپا کردن آن نیز هستند. اگر کس دیگری به آن نزدیک شود، باید او را کشت.

²⁶Of the children of Judah, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²⁶ هر طایفهٔ اسرائیل باید اردوگاه و پرچم جداگانه‌ای داشته باشد.

²⁷those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Judah, were sixty-four thousand six hundred.

²⁷ لاویان باید به دور خیمهٔ عبادت، اردوی خود را برپا کنند تا خشم من برمردم اسرائیل فرود نیاید و تنها لاویان باید مسئول امور خیمهٔ عبادت باشند.» به این ترتیب آنچه را که خداوند، توسط موسی امر فرموده بود، قوم اسرائیل بجا آورد.

²⁸Of the children of Issachar, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

²⁹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty-four thousand four hundred.

³⁰Of the children of Zebulun, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

³¹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty-seven thousand four hundred.

³²Of the children of Joseph, of the children of Ephraim, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

³³those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Ephraim, were forty thousand five hundred.

³⁴Of the children of Manasseh, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

³⁵those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty-two thousand two hundred.

³⁶Of the children of Benjamin, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war;

³⁷those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty-five thousand four hundred.

³⁸Of the children of Dan, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war;

³⁹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Dan, were sixty-two thousand seven hundred.

⁴⁰Of the children of Asher, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war;

⁴¹those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Asher, were forty-one thousand five hundred.

⁴²Of the children of Naphtali, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go forth to war;

⁴³those who were numbered of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand four hundred.

⁴⁴These are those who were numbered, whom Moses and Aaron numbered, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men: they were each one for his fathers’ house.

⁴⁵So all those who were numbered of the children of Israel by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war in Israel;

⁴⁶even all those who were numbered were six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty.

⁴⁷But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.

⁴⁸For Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

⁴⁹“Only the tribe of Levi you shall not number, neither shall you take a census of them among the children of Israel;

⁵⁰but appoint the Levites over the Tabernacle of the Testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it. They shall carry the tabernacle, and all its furnishings; and they shall take care of it, and shall encamp around it.

⁵¹When the tabernacle is to move, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall set it up. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death.

⁵²The children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their divisions.

⁵³But the Levites shall encamp around the Tabernacle of the Testimony, that there may be no wrath on the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall be responsible for the Tabernacle of the Testimony.”

⁵⁴Thus the children of Israel did. According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, so they did.
