¹When Balaam saw that it pleased Yahweh to bless Israel, he didn’t go, as at the other times, to meet with enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.

¹ وقتی بلعام دید که خداوند از برکت دادن به اسرائیل خشنود شده است، مانند گذشته به جادو متوسّل نشد، بلکه رو به طرف بیابان کرد

²Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel dwelling according to their tribes; and the Spirit of God came on him.

² قوم اسرائیل را دید که طایفه‌طایفه در آنجا اردو زده‌اند. آنگاه روح خدا بر او نازل شد

³He took up his parable, and said, “Balaam the son of Beor says, the man whose eye was closed says;

³ و این کلام بر زبانش جاری شد: «وحی بلعام پسر بعور، وحی آن مردی که چشمانش باز شد،

⁴he says, who hears the words of God, who sees the vision of the Almighty, falling down, and having his eyes open:

⁴ وحی کسی‌که سخنان خدا را شنید، و رؤیایی را دید که خدای متعال نشان داد، آن که به خاک افتاد و چشمانش باز شد.

⁵How goodly are your tents, Jacob, and your tents, Israel!

⁵ اردو‌های شما چقدر زیباست،

⁶As valleys they are spread forth, as gardens by the riverside, as aloes which Yahweh has planted, as cedar trees beside the waters.

⁶ همچون درختان عودی که خداوند به دست خود کاشته باشد، و چون درختان سرو کنار جویبارها.

⁷Water shall flow from his buckets. His seed shall be in many waters. His king shall be higher than Agag. His kingdom shall be exalted.

⁷ دلوهای ایشان، از آب لبریز می‌شود. بذرهای ایشان، با آب فراوان آبیاری می‌شوند. پادشاه آنها بزرگتر از اجاج می‌باشد و مملکت آنها سرفراز می‌گردد.

⁸God brings him out of Egypt. He has as it were the strength of the wild ox. He shall eat up the nations his adversaries, shall break their bones in pieces, and pierce them with his arrows.

⁸ خدا آنها را از مصر بیرون آورد. او مانند گاو وحشی برای آنان می‌‌جنگد، و آنها دشمنان خود را می‌بلعند. استخوانهایشان را خُرد می‌کنند، تیرهای آنان را می‌شکنند.

⁹He couched, he lay down as a lion, as a lioness; who shall rouse him up? Everyone who blesses you is blessed. Everyone who curses you is cursed.”

⁹ مانند شیر می‌خوابند و کسی جرأت آن را ندارد که آنها را بیدار کند. کسی‌که تو را برکت بدهد، برکت ببیند و لعنت باد بر کسی‌که تو را لعنت کند.»

¹⁰Balak’s anger was kindled against Balaam, and he struck his hands together; and Balak said to Balaam, “I called you to curse my enemies, and, behold, you have altogether blessed them these three times.

¹⁰ آتش خشم بالاق بر بلعام افروخته شد و درحالی‌که دستهای خود را به هم می‌زد، به بلعام گفت: «من تو را فراخواندم که دشمنان مرا نفرین کنی، امّا تو برعکس، سه بار آنها را برکت دادی.

¹¹Therefore now flee you to your place! I thought to promote you to great honor; but, behold, Yahweh has kept you back from honor.”

¹¹ از اینجا زود برو و به خانه‌ات بازگرد. من گفتم که به تو پاداش خوبی خواهم داد، امّا خدا تو را از آن محروم ساخت.»

¹²Balaam said to Balak, “Didn’t I also tell your messengers who you sent to me, saying,

¹² بلعام گفت: «من به قاصدانت گفتم:

¹³‘If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I can’t go beyond the word of Yahweh, to do either good or bad of my own mind. I will say what Yahweh says’?

¹³ که اگر تو قصرت را پر از طلا و نقره کنی و به من بدهی، من نمی‌توانم از فرمان خداوند سرپیچی نمایم و یا آنچه خودم بخواهم بگویم. من هرچه را که خداوند بفرماید، می‌گویم.

¹⁴Now, behold, I go to my people: come, I will inform you what this people shall do to your people in the latter days.”

¹⁴ «حالا پیش قوم خود می‌روم، امّا باید بدانی که در آینده، قوم اسرائیل چه بلایی بر سر مردم تو می‌آورند.»

¹⁵He took up his parable, and said, “Balaam the son of Beor says, the man whose eye was closed says;

¹⁵ بلعام چنین سخن خود را آغاز کرد: «این است وحی بلعام پسر بعور، وحی مردی که چشمانش باز شد، وحی آن کسی‌که سخنان خدا را شنید

¹⁶he says, who hears the words of God, knows the knowledge of the Most High, and who sees the vision of the Almighty, Falling down, and having his eyes open:

¹⁶ و خدای متعال به او حکمت آموخت و رؤیایی را دید، که خدای قادر مطلق به او نشان داد. او به خاک افتاد و چشمانش باز شد.

¹⁷I see him, but not now. I see him, but not near. A star will come out of Jacob. A scepter will rise out of Israel, and shall strike through the corners of Moab, and break down all the sons of Sheth.

¹⁷ او را خواهم دید، امّا نه حالا، او را تماشا خواهم کرد، ولی نه از نزدیک. پادشاهی همچون ستاره‌ای درخشان در اسرائیل ظهور خواهد نمود. او رهبران موآب را شکست می‌دهد. مردم آشوبگر را سرکوب می‌کند،

¹⁸Edom shall be a possession. Seir, his enemies, also shall be a possession, while Israel does valiantly.

¹⁸ و دشمنان خود را در اَدوم شکست می‌دهد، زمین ایشان را تصرّف می‌کند،

¹⁹Out of Jacob shall one have dominion, and shall destroy the remnant from the city.”

¹⁹ اسرائیل به پیروزی ادامه می‌دهد، دشمنان را پایمال می‌سازد و کسی را هم زنده نمی‌گذارد.»

²⁰He looked at Amalek, and took up his parable, and said, “Amalek was the first of the nations, But his latter end shall come to destruction.”

²⁰ بعد بلعام رو به طرف عمالیقیان کرد و این چنین پیشگویی کرد: «عمالیقیان مقتدرترین اقوام بودند، امّا سرانجام، همه هلاک می‌شوند.»

²¹He looked at the Kenite, and took up his parable, and said, “Your dwelling place is strong. Your nest is set in the rock.

²¹ سپس به قینیان نگاه کرد و این چنین پیشگویی کرد: «جای سکونت شما مستحکم است، آشیانهٔ شما بر صخره‌ای قرار دارد.

²²Nevertheless Kain shall be wasted, until Asshur carries you away captive.”

²² امّا قینیان از بین می‌روند و لشکر نیرومند آشوریان، شما را به اسارت می‌برد.»

²³He took up his parable, and said, “Alas, who shall live when God does this?

²³ بلعام با این سخنان به پیشگویی خود پایان بخشید: «افسوس که وقتی خدا این کار را انجام بدهد، هیچ‌کسی زنده نخواهد بود.

²⁴But ships shall come from the coast of Kittim. They shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber. He also shall come to destruction.”

²⁴ کشتی‌ها از سواحل قبرس می‌آیند، آشور و عابر را سرکوب می‌سازند، امّا خود آنها هم نابود می‌شوند.» بعد بعلام برخاست و به وطن خود بازگشت و بالاق هم به راه خود رفت.

²⁵Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.
