¹Then drew near the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph; and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah.

¹ مَحله، نوعه، حُجله، مِلکه و تِرصه، دختران صلفحاد بودند. صلفحاد پسر حافر بود و حافر پسر جلعاد، نوه ماخیر و نتیجهٔ منسی و منسی یکی از پسران یوسف بود.

²They stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes and all the congregation, at the door of the Tent of Meeting, saying,

² روزی دختران صلفحاد در کنار در خیمهٔ عبادت رفتند و به موسی، العازار کاهن، رهبران طایفه‌ها و سایر مردمی که در آنجا حضور داشتند، چنین گفتند:

³“Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not among the company of those who gathered themselves together against Yahweh in the company of Korah: but he died in his own sin; and he had no sons.

³ «پدر ما در بیابان مرد و پسری نداشت. او جزو پیروان قورح نبود که برضد خداوند سرکشی کردند. او به‌خاطر گناه خودش مُرد.

⁴Why should the name of our father be taken away from among his family, because he had no son? Give to us a possession among the brothers of our father.”

⁴ فقط برای اینکه او پسری نداشت، باید نام پدر ما، از بین طایفه‌اش محو شود؟ ما خواهش می‌کنیم که برای ما هم، مانند خویشاوندان پدر ما زمین داده شود.»

⁵Moses brought their cause before Yahweh.

⁵ موسی ادّعای ایشان را به حضور خداوند آورد

⁶Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

⁶ و خداوند به موسی فرمود:

⁷“The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: you shall surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father’s brothers; and you shall cause the inheritance of their father to pass to them.

⁷ «دختران صلفحاد راست می‌گویند، در میان عموهایشان، زمین موروثی به ایشان بده و سهم پدر ایشان را به ایشان واگذار نما.

⁸You shall speak to the children of Israel, saying, ‘If a man dies, and has no son, then you shall cause his inheritance to pass to his daughter.

⁸ به قوم اسرائیل بگو که هرگاه مردی می‌میرد و پسری از خود بجا نمی‌گذارد، باید میراث او به دخترش برسد.

⁹If he has no daughter, then you shall give his inheritance to his brothers.

⁹ اگر دختر نداشته باشد، زمین او به برادرانش تعلّق می‌گیرد.

¹⁰If he has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his father’s brothers.

¹⁰ اگر برادر نداشته باشد، به عموهایش داده شود

¹¹If his father has no brothers, then you shall give his inheritance to his kinsman who is next to him of his family, and he shall possess it: and it shall be to the children of Israel a statute and ordinance, as Yahweh commanded Moses.’”

¹¹ و اگر عمو یا برادر هم نداشته باشد، پس زمینش به نزدیکترین خویشاوندان او سپرده شود. من، خداوند به تو امر می‌کنم تا به مردم اسرائیل بگویی که باید این قانون را رعایت کنند.»

¹²Yahweh said to Moses, “Go up into this mountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the children of Israel.

¹² خداوند به موسی فرمود: «بر سر کوه عباریم برو و از آنجا سرزمینی را که به قوم اسرائیل داده‌ام، ببین.

¹³When you have seen it, you also shall be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother was gathered;

¹³ پس از آن که آن را دیدی، تو نیز مانند برادرت هارون، خواهی مرد.

¹⁴because you rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, to sanctify me at the waters before their eyes.” (These are the waters of Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)

¹⁴ زیرا هردوی شما هنگامی‌که قوم اسرائیل در مریبه علیه من شورش کردند، در بیابان صین از اوامر من سرپیچی کردید و شما نخواستید قدرت مقدّس مرا در حضور قوم تصدیق کنید.» (مریبه چشمه‌ای است در قادش واقع در بیابان صین.)

¹⁵Moses spoke to Yahweh, saying,

¹⁵ موسی به حضور خداوند عرض کرد:

¹⁶“Let Yahweh, the God of the spirits of all flesh, appoint a man over the congregation,

¹⁶ «ای خداوند، خدایی که سرچشمهٔ حیات تمام بشر هستی، از تو استدعا می‌کنم که شخصی را به عنوان هادی و راهنمای این قوم انتخاب کنی

¹⁷who may go out before them, and who may come in before them, and who may lead them out, and who may bring them in; that the congregation of Yahweh not be as sheep which have no shepherd.”

¹⁷ تا بتواند آنها را در همهٔ امور هدایت کند، از آنها مراقبت نماید و قوم تو مانند گوسفندان بی‌شبان نماند.»

¹⁸Yahweh said to Moses, “Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him;

¹⁸ خداوند به او فرمود: «برو دست خود را بر یوشع، پسر نون که روح من در او قرار دارد، بگذار.

¹⁹and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation; and commission him in their sight.

¹⁹ بعد او را پیش العازار کاهن و تمام قوم ببر و در حضور همگی به عنوان پیشوای قوم تعیین کن.

²⁰You shall put of your honor on him, that all the congregation of the children of Israel may obey.

²⁰ بعضی از اختیارات خود را به او بده تا تمام مردم اسرائیل از او اطاعت نمایند.

²¹He shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before Yahweh: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he, and all the children of Israel with him, even all the congregation.”

²¹ او باید برای گرفتن دستور از من پیش العازار برود. من به وسیلهٔ اوریم با العازار صحبت می‌کنم و العازار اوامر مرا به یوشع می‌رساند و به این ترتیب، من آنها را هدایت می‌کنم.»

²²Moses did as Yahweh commanded him; and he took Joshua, and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before all the congregation:

²² موسی طبق فرمان خداوند عمل کرد. او یوشع را به حضور العازار کاهن و تمام قوم اسرائیل آورد. طبق فرمان خداوند، بر سر او دست گذاشت و او را به عنوان پیشوای قوم تعیین کرد.

²³and he laid his hands on him, and commissioned him, as Yahweh spoke by Moses.

²³ طبق فرمان خداوند، بر سر او دست گذاشت و او را به عنوان پیشوای قوم تعیین کرد.
