¹“However, Job, please hear my speech, and listen to all my words.

¹Ouve, pois, as minhas palavras, ó Jó, e dá ouvidos a todas as minhas declaraçoes.

²See now, I have opened my mouth. My tongue has spoken in my mouth.

²Eis que já abri a minha boca; já falou a minha língua debaixo do meu paladar.

³My words shall utter the uprightness of my heart. That which my lips know they shall speak sincerely.

³As minhas palavras declaram a integridade do meu coração, e os meus lábios falam com sinceridade o que sabem.

⁴The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.

⁴O Espírito de Deus me fez, e o sopro do Todo-Poderoso me dá vida.

⁵If you can, answer me. Set your words in order before me, and stand forth.

⁵Se podes, responde-me; põe as tuas palavras em ordem diante de mim; apresenta-te.

⁶Behold, I am toward God even as you are. I am also formed out of the clay.

⁶Eis que diante de Deus sou o que tu és; eu também fui formado do barro.

⁷Behold, my terror shall not make you afraid, neither shall my pressure be heavy on you.

⁷Eis que não te perturbará nenhum medo de mim, nem será pesada sobre ti a minha mão.

⁸“Surely you have spoken in my hearing, I have heard the voice of your words, saying,

⁸Na verdade tu falaste aos meus ouvidos, e eu ouvi a voz das tuas palavras. Dizias:

⁹‘I am clean, without disobedience. I am innocent, neither is there iniquity in me.

⁹Limpo estou, sem transgressão; puro sou, e não há em mim iniqüidade.

¹⁰Behold, he finds occasions against me. He counts me for his enemy.

¹⁰Eis que Deus procura motivos de inimizade contra mim, e me considera como o seu inimigo.

¹¹He puts my feet in the stocks. He marks all my paths.’

¹¹Põe no tronco os meus pés, e observa todas as minhas veredas.

¹²“Behold, I will answer you. In this you are not just, for God is greater than man.

¹²Eis que nisso não tens razão; eu te responderei; porque Deus e maior do que o homem.

¹³Why do you strive against him, because he doesn’t give account of any of his matters?

¹³Por que razão contendes com ele por não dar conta dos seus atos?

¹⁴For God speaks once, yes twice, though man pays no attention.

¹⁴Pois Deus fala de um modo, e ainda de outro se o homem não lhe atende.

¹⁵In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, in slumbering on the bed;

¹⁵Em sonho ou em visão de noite, quando cai sono profundo sobre os homens, quando adormecem na cama;

¹⁶Then he opens the ears of men, and seals their instruction,

¹⁶então abre os ouvidos dos homens, e os atemoriza com avisos,

¹⁷That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man.

¹⁷para apartar o homem do seu desígnio, e esconder do homem a soberba;

¹⁸He keeps back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.

¹⁸para reter a sua alma da cova, e a sua vida de passar pela espada.

¹⁹He is chastened also with pain on his bed, with continual strife in his bones;

¹⁹Também é castigado na sua cama com dores, e com incessante contenda nos seus ossos;

²⁰So that his life abhors bread, and his soul dainty food.

²⁰de modo que a sua vida abomina o pão, e a sua alma a comida apetecível.

²¹His flesh is so consumed away, that it can’t be seen. His bones that were not seen stick out.

²¹Consome-se a sua carne, de maneira que desaparece, e os seus ossos, que não se viam, agora aparecem.

²²Yes, his soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the destroyers.

²²A sua alma se vai chegando � cova, e a sua vida aos que trazem a morte.

²³“If there is beside him an angel, an interpreter, one among a thousand, to show to man what is right for him;

²³Se com ele, pois, houver um anjo, um intérprete, um entre mil, para declarar ao homem o que lhe é justo,

²⁴then God is gracious to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down to the pit, I have found a ransom.’

²⁴então terá compaixão dele, e lhe dirá: Livra-o, para que não desça � cova; já achei resgate.

²⁵His flesh shall be fresher than a child’s. He returns to the days of his youth.

²⁵Sua carne se reverdecerá mais do que na sua infância; e ele tornará aos dias da sua juventude.

²⁶He prays to God, and he is favorable to him, so that he sees his face with joy. He restores to man his righteousness.

²⁶Deveras orará a Deus, que lhe será propício, e o fará ver a sua face com júbilo, e restituirá ao homem a sua justiça.

²⁷He sings before men, and says, ‘I have sinned, and perverted that which was right, and it didn’t profit me.

²⁷Cantará diante dos homens, e dirá: Pequei, e perverti o direito, o que de nada me aproveitou.

²⁸He has redeemed my soul from going into the pit. My life shall see the light.’

²⁸Mas Deus livrou a minha alma de ir para a cova, e a minha vida verá a luz.

²⁹“Behold, God works all these things, twice, yes three times, with a man,

²⁹Eis que tudo isto Deus faz duas e três vezes para com o homem,

³⁰to bring back his soul from the pit, that he may be enlightened with the light of the living.

³⁰para reconduzir a sua alma da cova, a fim de que seja iluminado com a luz dos viventes.

³¹Mark well, Job, and listen to me. Hold your peace, and I will speak.

³¹Escuta, pois, ó Jó, ouve-me; cala-te, e eu falarei.

³²If you have anything to say, answer me. Speak, for I desire to justify you.

³²Se tens alguma coisa que dizer, responde-me; fala, porque desejo justificar-te.

³³If not, listen to me. Hold your peace, and I will teach you wisdom.”

³³Se não, escuta-me tu; cala-te, e ensinar-te-ei a sabedoria.
