¹After five days, the high priest, Ananias, came down with certain elders and an orator, one Tertullus. They informed the governor against Paul.

¹A po piatich dňoch sišiel ta dolu najvyšší kňaz Ananiáš so staršími aj s rečníkom, s akýmsi Tertullom, ktorí sa dostanovili k vladárovi so žalobou proti Pavlovi.

²When he was called, Tertullus began to accuse him, saying, “Seeing that by you we enjoy much peace, and that excellent measures are coming to this nation,

²A keď ho zavolali, začal Tertullus žalovať a vravel:

³we accept it in all ways and in all places, most excellent Felix, with all thankfulness.

³Že sme skrze teba došli veľkého pokoja, a že tvojou prozreteľnosťou dejú sa v tomto národe znamenité nápravy, to všelijak a všade prijímame, výborný Felixe, s celou vďakou.

⁴But, that I don’t delay you, I entreat you to bear with us and hear a few words.

⁴Ale aby som ťa ďalej nezdržoval, prosím ťa, žeby si nás zkrátka vypočul v sebe vlastnej prívetivosti.

⁵For we have found this man to be a plague, an instigator of insurrections among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

⁵Lebo najdúc tohoto človeka jako morovú nákazu a jako takého, ktorý robí vzbury medzi všetkými Židmi po celom svete a jako hlavného náčelníka známej sekty nazarejov,

⁶He even tried to profane the temple, and we arrested him. TR adds “We wanted to judge him according to our law,”

⁹The Jews also joined in the attack, affirming that these things were so.

⁹A dokladali k tomu aj Židia a hovorili, že je tak.

¹⁰When the governor had beckoned to him to speak, Paul answered, “Because I know that you have been a judge of this nation for many years, I cheerfully make my defense,

¹⁰Vtedy odpovedal Pavel, keď mu pokynul vladár, aby hovoril: Vediac, že si od mnoho rokov sudcom tomuto národu, tým smelšie bránim seba i svoju vec,

¹¹seeing that you can recognize that it is not more than twelve days since I went up to worship at Jerusalem.

¹¹pretože sa môžeš dovedieť, že nie je tomu viac ako dvanásť dní, čo som odišiel hore do Jeruzalema modliť sa.

¹²In the temple they didn’t find me disputing with anyone or stirring up a crowd, either in the synagogues, or in the city.

¹²A nenašli ma ani v chráme s nikým hovoriť alebo robiť vzburu medzi zástupom ani v synagógach ani po meste

¹³Nor can they prove to you the things of which they now accuse me.

¹³ani ti nemôžu dokázať, čo na mňa teraz žalujú.

¹⁴But this I confess to you, that after the Way, which they call a sect, so I serve the God of our fathers, believing all things which are according to the law, and which are written in the prophets;

¹⁴Ale to ti vyznávam, že práve cestou, ktorú nazývajú sektou, svätoslúžim Bohu svojich otcov veriac všetkému, čo je napísané v zákone a v prorokoch,

¹⁵having hope toward God, which these also themselves look for, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

¹⁵a mám nádej v Bohu, ktorú aj títo sami očakávajú, totiž že bude vzkriesenie z mŕtvych, spravedlivých i nespravedlivých.

¹⁶Herein I also practice always having a conscience void of offense toward God and men.

¹⁶A v tom sa i sám snažím, aby som mal vždycky svedomie, prosté úrazu pred Bohom i pred ľuďmi.

¹⁷Now after some years, I came to bring gifts for the needy to my nation, and offerings;

¹⁷Ale po viac rokoch som prišiel, aby som doniesol svojmu národu almužny, milodary, a obeti,

¹⁸amid which certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, not with a mob, nor with turmoil.

¹⁸pri čom ma našli očisteného v chráme, nie so zástupom ani s nepokojom, niektorí Židia s Ázie,

¹⁹They ought to have been here before you, and to make accusation, if they had anything against me.

¹⁹ktorí by mali byť tu pred tebou a žalovať, ak by mali niečo proti mne.

²⁰Or else let these men themselves say what injustice they found in me when I stood before the council,

²⁰Alebo aj títo sami nech povedia, či našli na mne nejakú neprávosť, keď som stál pred vysokou radou,

²¹unless it is for this one thing that I cried standing among them, ‘Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being judged before you today!’”

²¹krome toho jedného zavolania, čo som skríknul stojac medzi nimi, totiž že pre zmŕtvychvstanie mŕtvych som ja dnes od vás súdený.

²²But Felix, having more exact knowledge concerning the Way, deferred them, saying, “When Lysias, the commanding officer, comes down, I will decide your case.”

²²Keď to počul Felix, odročil ich pravotu vediac lepšie o dotyčnej ceste a povedal: Keď prijde dolu tisícnik Lyziáš, potom posúdim vašu vec.

²³He ordered the centurion that Paul should be kept in custody, and should have some privileges, and not to forbid any of his friends to serve him or to visit him.

²³A nariadil stotníkovi, aby strážil Pavla, a aby mal voľnosť, a aby nebránili nikomu z jeho priateľov posluhovať mu alebo chodiť za ním.

²⁴But after some days, Felix came with Drusilla, his wife, who was a Jewess, and sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ Jesus.

²⁴Potom o niekoľko dní prišiel Felix s Druzillou, svojou ženou, ktorá bola Židovka, a poslal po Pavla a počul ho o viere v Krista Ježiša.

²⁵As he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, “Go your way for this time, and when it is convenient for me, I will summon you.”

²⁵A keď hovoril o spravedlivosti, zdržanlivosti a o budúcom súde, zľakol sa Felix a odpovedal: Nateraz idi, ale keď budem mať čas, zavolám ťa.

²⁶Meanwhile, he also hoped that money would be given to him by Paul, that he might release him. Therefore also he sent for him more often, and talked with him.

²⁶No, zároveň sa i nadejal, že mu dá Pavel peniaze, aby ho prepustil, a preto i častejšie posielal po neho a shováral sa s ním.

²⁷But when two years were fulfilled, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus, and desiring to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in bonds.

²⁷A po dokončení dvoch rokov dostal Felix nástupcu Porcia Festa. A Felix chcúc si získať u Židov priazeň nechal Pavla vo väzení.
