¹Festus therefore, having come into the province, after three days went up to Jerusalem from Caesarea.

¹Keď tedy prišiel Festus do provincie, odišiel po troch dňoch z Cezáree hore do Jeruzalema.

²Then the high priest and the principal men of the Jews informed him against Paul, and they begged him,

²A prišli k nemu najvyšší kňazi a prední zo Židov so žalobou proti Pavlovi a prosili ho

³asking a favor against him, that he would summon him to Jerusalem; plotting to kill him on the way.

³a žiadali si milosť proti nemu, žeby poslal po neho a dal ho doviesť do Jeruzalema strojac úklady, aby ho na ceste zabili.

⁴However Festus answered that Paul should be kept in custody at Caesarea, and that he himself was about to depart shortly.

⁴Ale Festus odpovedal, že Pavel má byť strážený v Cezárei, ale že sám jednako naskore odcestuje,

⁵“Let them therefore,” said he, “that are in power among you go down with me, and if there is anything wrong in the man, let them accuse him.”

⁵a tak vraj tí, ktorí z vás môžu, nech odídu so mnou ta dolu, a jestli je na človekovi nejaká vina, nech žalujú na neho.

⁶When he had stayed among them more than ten days, he went down to Caesarea, and on the next day he sat on the judgment seat, and commanded Paul to be brought.

⁶A ztráviac medzi nimi nie viac ako osem alebo desať dní odišiel dolu do Cezáree a na druhý deň sadol na súdnu stolicu a rozkázal doviesť Pavla.

⁷When he had come, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him, bringing against him many and grievous charges which they could not prove,

⁷A keď prišiel, obstúpili ho z Jeruzalema dolu prišlí Židia a snášali proti Pavlovi mnohé a ťažké žaloby, ktoré nemohli dokázať,

⁸while he said in his defense, “Neither against the law of the Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar, have I sinned at all.”

⁸keď sa bránil Pavel a hovoril: Ani proti zákonu Židov, ani proti chrámu ani proti cisárovi som sa ničím neprehrešil.

⁹But Festus, desiring to gain favor with the Jews, answered Paul and said, “Are you willing to go up to Jerusalem, and be judged by me there concerning these things?”

⁹Ale Festus chcúc si získať priazeň u Židov odpovedal Pavlovi a riekol: Či chceš ísť hore do Jeruzalema a byť tam súdený o to predo mnou?

¹⁰But Paul said, “I am standing before Caesar’s judgment seat, where I ought to be tried. I have done no wrong to the Jews, as you also know very well.

¹⁰Ale Pavel odpovedal: Stojím pred súdnou stolicou cisárovou, tam, kde mám byť súdený. Židom som ničím neukrivdil, ako aj ty dobre vieš.

¹¹For if I have done wrong, and have committed anything worthy of death, I don’t refuse to die; but if none of those things is true that they accuse me of, no one can give me up to them. I appeal to Caesar!”

¹¹Lebo ak krivdím a spáchal som niečo hodné smrti, nezdráham sa zomrieť; ale ak je nič, čo títo na mňa žalujú, nikto im ma nemôže darovať. Na cisára sa odvolávam!

¹²Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, “You have appealed to Caesar. To Caesar you shall go.”

¹²Vtedy Festus poshovárajúc sa s radou odpovedal: Na cisára si sa odvolal, pred cisára pojdeš.

¹³Now when some days had passed, King Agrippa and Bernice arrived at Caesarea, and greeted Festus.

¹³A keď pominulo niekoľko dní, prišli do Cezáree kráľ Agrippa i Bernika pozdraviť Festa.

¹⁴As he stayed there many days, Festus laid Paul’s case before the king, saying, “There is a certain man left a prisoner by Felix;

¹⁴A jako tam trávili viacej dní, predniesol Festus kráľovi vec Pavlovu a povedal: Felix tu zanechal nejakého muža, väzňa,

¹⁵about whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, asking for a sentence against him.

¹⁵o ktorého, keď som bol v Jeruzaleme, prišli ku mne najvyšší kňazi a starší Židov a žiadali ho odsúdiť,

¹⁶To whom I answered that it is not the custom of the Romans to give up any man to destruction, before the accused has met the accusers face to face, and has had opportunity to make his defense concerning the matter laid against him.

¹⁶ktorým som odpovedal, že Rimania nemajú obyčaje darovať niektorého človeka a vydať na záhubu, prv ako by obžalovaný bol mal žalobníkov zoči-voči a bol dostal príležitosť brániť sa proti obvineniu.

¹⁷When therefore they had come together here, I didn’t delay, but on the next day sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought.

¹⁷A tak keď sa sem sišli, bez akéhokoľvek odkladu som sadol nasledujúci deň na súdnu stolicu a rozkázal som doviesť človeka,

¹⁸Concerning whom, when the accusers stood up, they brought no charge of such things as I supposed;

¹⁸ktorého obstúpili žalobníci, ale ho nevinili nijakými takými zločinmi, o jakých som sa ja domnieval.

¹⁹but had certain questions against him about their own religion, and about one Jesus, who was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.

¹⁹Ale mali s ním akési škriepky o svoje vlastné náboženstvo a o jakéhosi zomrelého Ježiša, o ktorom istil Pavel, že žije.

²⁰Being perplexed how to inquire concerning these things, I asked whether he was willing to go to Jerusalem and there be judged concerning these matters.

²⁰A ja súc v rozpakoch ohľadom sporu o také veci vravel som, či by chcel ísť do Jeruzalema a tam byť súdený o to.

²¹But when Paul had appealed to be kept for the decision of the emperor, I commanded him to be kept until I could send him to Caesar.”

²¹Ale keď sa Pavel odvolal aby bol strážený, až ako rozpozná jeho veličenstvo, rozkázal som, aby ho strážili, dokiaľ ho nepošlem k cisárovi.

²²Agrippa said to Festus, “I also would like to hear the man myself.” “Tomorrow,” he said, “you shall hear him.”

²²A Agrippa povedal Festovi: Chcel by som i sám počuť človeka. A on riekol: Zajtra ho počuješ.

²³So on the next day, when Agrippa and Bernice had come with great pomp, and they had entered into the place of hearing with the commanding officers and principal men of the city, at the command of Festus, Paul was brought in.

²³A tak na druhý deň, keď prišiel Agrippa i Bernika s veľkou okázalosťou, a vošli do posluchárne s tisícnikmi a vynikajúcimi mužmi mesta, rozkázal Festus, a doviedli Pavla.

²⁴Festus said, “King Agrippa, and all men who are here present with us, you see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews petitioned me, both at Jerusalem and here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.

²⁴A Festus povedal: Kráľu Agrippa i všetci tu s nami prítomní mužovia, vidíte tohoto, o ktorého ma prosilo celé to množstvo Židov, ako v Jeruzaleme tak i tu, a kričali, že nesmie ďalej žiť.

²⁵But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and as he himself appealed to the emperor I determined to send him.

²⁵No, ja som pochopil, že neurobil ničoho, za čo by bol hoden smrti, a keď sa i tento sám odvolal na jeho veličenstvo, usúdil som poslať ho,

²⁶Of whom I have no certain thing to write to my lord. Therefore I have brought him forth before you, and especially before you, King Agrippa, that, after examination, I may have something to write.

²⁶o ktorom nemám čo istého napísať pánovi, preto som ho predviedol pred vás, a zvlášte pred teba, kráľu Agrippa, aby som po vyšetrení mal čo napísať.

²⁷For it seems to me unreasonable, in sending a prisoner, not to also specify the charges against him.”

²⁷Lebo sa mi zdá byť nerozumným poslať väzňa a neudať i toho, jaká je proti nemu žaloba.
