¹When Abram was ninety-nine years old, Yahweh appeared to Abram, and said to him, “I am God Almighty. Walk before me, and be blameless.

¹Ko je pa Abram imel devetindevetdeset let, se prikaže GOSPOD Abramu ter mu reče: Jaz sem Bog silni, Vsemogočni; neprestano hodi pred menoj in popoln bodi.

²I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.”

²In zavezo svojo naredim med seboj in teboj in pomnožim te presilno.

³Abram fell on his face. God talked with him, saying,

³Tedaj pade Abram na obličje svoje, in Bog je govoril ž njim, rekoč:

⁴“As for me, behold, my covenant is with you. You will be the father of a multitude of nations.

⁴Jaz sem, glej, zaveza moja je s teboj, in oče bodeš množici narodov.

⁵Neither will your name any more be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham; for I have made you the father of a multitude of nations.

⁵In ne bo se več imenovalo ime tvoje Abram, temuč ime tvoje bodi Abraham [T. j. oče množice.], zakaj za očeta množici narodov sem te postavil.

⁶I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make nations of you. Kings will come out of you.

⁶In naredim te rodovitnega presilno, in storim te v narode, in kralji bodo izhajali iz tebe.

⁷I will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God to you and to your seed after you.

⁷In ustanovitim zavezo svojo med seboj in teboj in semenom tvojim za teboj po rodovih njegovih, da bo zaveza večna, da sem ti jaz Bog in semenu tvojemu za teboj.

⁸I will give to you, and to your seed after you, the land where you are traveling, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession. I will be their God.”

⁹God said to Abraham, “As for you, you will keep my covenant, you and your seed after you throughout their generations.

⁹In reče Bog Abrahamu: Ti torej hrani zavezo mojo, ti in seme tvoje za teboj po rodovih svojih.

¹⁰This is my covenant, which you shall keep, between me and you and your seed after you. Every male among you shall be circumcised.

¹⁰Ta je zaveza moja med menoj in vami in semenom tvojim za teboj, ki naj jo ohranite: Obrezan vam bodi vsak moški.

¹¹You shall be circumcised in the flesh of your foreskin. It will be a token of the covenant between me and you.

¹¹Obrezujte torej meso prednje kožice svoje; to bodi zaveza med menoj in vami.

¹²He who is eight days old will be circumcised among you, every male throughout your generations, he who is born in the house, or bought with money from any foreigner who is not of your seed.

¹²Osem dni po porodu naj se obreže vsak moški po rodovih vaših, rojen doma ali kupljen z denarjem od katerihkoli tujcev, ki niso iz tvojega semena.

¹³He who is born in your house, and he who is bought with your money, must be circumcised. My covenant will be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

¹³Vsekakor bodi obrezan i rojeni na domu tvojem i kupljeni z denarjem tvojim: tako bode zaveza moja na vašem mesu za večno zavezo.

¹⁴The uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin, that soul shall be cut off from his people. He has broken my covenant.”

¹⁴Neobrezan moški pa, ki ne obreže mesa kožice svoje, ta duša bo iztrebljena izmed ljudstva svojega; prelomil je zavezo mojo.

¹⁵God said to Abraham, “As for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but her name will be Sarah.

¹⁵In Bog reče Abrahamu: Za Sarajo pa, ženo tvojo: ne imenuj je Saraje, ampak Sara [T. j. kneginja.] ji bodi ime.

¹⁶I will bless her, and moreover I will give you a son by her. Yes, I will bless her, and she will be a mother of nations. Kings of peoples will come from her.”

¹⁶Ker blagoslovil jo bom in tudi iz nje ti dam sina; blagoslovil jo bom, da bode mati narodov, kralji ljudstev bodo iz nje.

¹⁷Then Abraham fell on his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, “Will a child be born to him who is one hundred years old? Will Sarah, who is ninety years old, give birth?”

¹⁷Tedaj pade Abraham na obličje svoje in se zasmeje ter pravi v srcu svojem: Bo li sto let staremu se rodil otrok? in Sara, devetdeset let stara, bo li rodila?

¹⁸Abraham said to God, “Oh that Ishmael might live before you!”

¹⁸In reče Abraham Bogu: O da bi le Izmael živel pred teboj!

¹⁹God said, “No, but Sarah, your wife, will bear you a son. You shall call his name Isaac. Isaac means “he laughs.” I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant for his seed after him.

¹⁹A Bog veli: Vendar ti pa Sara, žena tvoja, bo rodila sina, in ga imenuj Izaka; in zavezo svojo ustanovitim ž njim, da bodi večna zaveza semenu njegovemu za njim.

²⁰As for Ishmael, I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly. He will become the father of twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.

²⁰A tudi za Izmaela sem te uslišal: glej, blagoslovil sem ga, in ga storim rodovitnega in ga pomnožim presilno; dvanajst knezov bo rodil, in naredim ga za očeta velikega naroda.

²¹But my covenant I establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this set time next year.”

²¹Zavezo svojo pa ustanovim z Izakom, ki ti ga bo Sara rodila o ravno tem času ob letu.

²²When he finished talking with him, God went up from Abraham.

²²In nehal se je pogovarjati ž njim in šel je Bog gori od Abrahama.

²³Abraham took Ishmael his son, all who were born in his house, and all who were bought with his money; every male among the men of Abraham’s house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the same day, as God had said to him.

²³Tedaj vzame Abraham Izmaela, sina svojega, in vse rojene v hiši svoji in kateregakoli je bil kupil z denarjem svojim: vsakega moškega iz domačih svojih, in še isti dan obreže meso njih kožic, kakor je ž njim Bog govoril.

²⁴Abraham was ninety-nine years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

²⁴Imel pa je Abraham devetindevetdeset let, ko je bilo obrezano meso neobreze njegove,

²⁵Ishmael, his son, was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

²⁵Izmael pa, sin njegov, trinajst let, ko je bilo obrezano meso neobreze njegove.

²⁶In the same day both Abraham and Ishmael, his son, were circumcised.

²⁶Ravno tisti dan sta bila obrezana Abraham in Izmael, sin njegov.In vsi moški hiše njegove, i rojeni doma i kupljeni z denarjem od tujca, so bili obrezani ž njim vred.

²⁷All the men of his house, those born in the house, and those bought with money of a foreigner, were circumcised with him.
