¹Then Job answered,

¹In Job odgovori in reče:

²“Even today my complaint is rebellious. His hand is heavy in spite of my groaning.

²Tudi danes še je kljubovalen odgovor moj; udarec moj je težji nego zdihovanje moje.

³Oh that I knew where I might find him! That I might come even to his seat!

³O da bi vedel, kje Ga morem najti, da bi prišel prav do Njegovega stola!

⁴I would set my cause in order before him, and fill my mouth with arguments.

⁴Razložil bi pravdo svojo pred Njim, usta svoja bi napolnil z dokazi.

⁵I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would tell me.

⁵Hotel bi znati besede, ki mi jih odgovori, in poslušati, kar mi poreče.

⁶Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? No, but he would listen to me.

⁶Ali bi se prepiral z menoj v veliki moči svoji? Ne; On bi samo pazil name.

⁷There the upright might reason with him, so I should be delivered forever from my judge.

⁷Tedaj bi se jaz poštenjak pravdal ž njim, in za večno bi se rešil sodnika svojega.

⁸“If I go east, he is not there; if west, I can’t find him;

⁸Glej pa, če grem proti vzhodu, tam ga ni, in proti zahodu, ga ne zasledim;

⁹He works to the north, but I can’t see him. He turns south, but I can’t catch a glimpse of him.

⁹če proti severu, ko vrši delo, ga ne zagledam, zavije se proti jugu, in ga ne vidim.

¹⁰But he knows the way that I take. When he has tried me, I shall come forth like gold.

¹⁰Kajti On pozna pot, katere se držim; ko bi me preizkušal, bi se izkazal kakor zlato.

¹¹My foot has held fast to his steps. I have kept his way, and not turned aside.

¹¹Koraka njegovega se je trdno držala noga moja, na pot njegovo sem pazil in nisem stopil ž nje;

¹²I haven’t gone back from the commandment of his lips. I have treasured up the words of his mouth more than my necessary food.

¹²od zapovedi njegovih usten se nisem umaknil; bolj nego lastno postavo sem hranil ust njegovih besede.

¹³But he stands alone, and who can oppose him? What his soul desires, even that he does.

¹³Ali on si je vedno enak, in kdo ga more odvrniti od njegovih misli? Česar želi duša njegova, to stori.

¹⁴For he performs that which is appointed for me. Many such things are with him.

¹⁴Kajti on dopolni, kar je določeno zame; in takih reči je veliko pri njem.

¹⁵Therefore I am terrified at his presence. When I consider, I am afraid of him.

¹⁵Zato se strašim pred njegovim obličjem; ko to premišljam, se ga bojim.

¹⁶For God has made my heart faint. The Almighty has terrified me.

¹⁶Ker Bog mogočni mi je preplašil srce in Vsegamogočni me je prestrašil.Kajti nisem poginil od temine, tudi ne, ker mi je mrak zakril obraz.

¹⁷Because I was not cut off before the darkness, neither did he cover the thick darkness from my face.
