¹Then Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem, saying,

¹Tedaj pridejo k Jezusu iz Jeruzalema pismarji in farizeji, govoreč:

²“Why do your disciples disobey the tradition of the elders? For they don’t wash their hands when they eat bread.”

²Zakaj prestopajo učenci tvoji izročilo starih? Ne umivajo si namreč rok, kadar jedo kruh.

³He answered them, “Why do you also disobey the commandment of God because of your tradition?

³On pa odgovori in reče: Zakaj prestopate tudi vi zapoved Božjo zaradi izročila svojega?

⁴ For God commanded, ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 5:16 and, ‘He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.’ Exodus 21:17; Leviticus 20:9

⁴Bog je namreč rekel: „Spoštuj očeta svojega in mater“, in: „Kdor kolne očeta ali mater, naj umrje“.

⁵ But you say, ‘Whoever may tell his father or his mother, “Whatever help you might otherwise have gotten from me is a gift devoted to God,”

⁵Vi pa pravite: Če kdo reče očetu ali materi: V daritev bodi, s čimer bi ti jaz pomagal,

⁶ he shall not honor his father or mother.’ You have made the commandment of God void because of your tradition.

⁶ni več zavezan spoštovati očeta svojega ali matere svoje. In tako ste ovrgli zapoved Božjo zaradi izročila svojega.

⁷ You hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,

⁷Hinavci, dobro je o vas prorokoval Izaija, govoreč:

⁸ ‘These people draw near to me with their mouth, and honor me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

⁸„To ljudstvo me časti z ustnicami svojimi, njih srce pa je daleč od mene.

⁹ And in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrine rules made by men.’” Isaiah 29:13

⁹Ali zastonj me časté, učeč nauke, zapovedi človeške“.

¹⁰He summoned the multitude, and said to them, “Hear, and understand.

¹⁰In pokliče množico k sebi in jim reče: Poslušajte in umejte!

¹¹ That which enters into the mouth doesn’t defile the man; but that which proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man.”

¹¹Ne skruni človeka to, kar prihaja v usta, temuč kar izhaja iz ust, to skruni človeka.

¹²Then the disciples came, and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees were offended, when they heard this saying?”

¹²Tedaj pristopijo učenci njegovi in mu reko: Veš li, da so se farizeji, ko so slišali to besedo, spotikali?

¹³But he answered, “Every plant which my heavenly Father didn’t plant will be uprooted.

¹³On pa odgovori in reče: Vsaka rastlina, katere ni zasadil Oče moj nebeški, se bo izrovala.

¹⁴ Leave them alone. They are blind guides of the blind. If the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

¹⁴Pustite jih! Oni so slepcem slepi vodniki. Če pa slepec slepca vodi, padeta oba v jamo.

¹⁵Peter answered him, “Explain the parable to us.”

¹⁵Peter pa odgovori in mu reče: Razloži nam to priliko!

¹⁶So Jesus said, “Do you also still not understand?

¹⁶Jezus pa reče: Ali ste tudi vi še nerazumni?

¹⁷ Don’t you understand that whatever goes into the mouth passes into the belly, and then out of the body?

¹⁷Ne umete li, da gre vse, kar prihaja v usta, v trebuh in se meče ven?

¹⁸ But the things which proceed out of the mouth come out of the heart, and they defile the man.

¹⁸Kar pa prihaja iz ust, izhaja iz srca, in to skruni človeka.

¹⁹ For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies.

¹⁹Zakaj iz srca izhajajo hudobne misli, uboji, prešeštva, nečistosti, tatvine, kriva pričevanja, kletvine.

²⁰ These are the things which defile the man; but to eat with unwashed hands doesn’t defile the man.”

²⁰To je, kar oskrunja človeka; jesti pa z neumitimi rokami ne oskrunja človeka.

²¹Jesus went out from there, and withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon.

²¹In Jezus odide odtod in se umakne v okraje tirske in sidonske.

²²Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David! My daughter is severely demonized!”

²²In glej, žena Kananičanka pride iz teh krajev ter zavpije in reče: Usmili se me, Gospod, sin Davidov; mojo hčer zelo muči zli duh.

²³But he answered her not a word. His disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away; for she cries after us.”

²³On ji pa ne odgovori besede. In pristopijo učenci njegovi in ga prosijo, rekoč: Odpravi jo, ker kriči za nami.

²⁴But he answered, “I wasn’t sent to anyone but the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

²⁴On pa odgovori in reče: Nisem poslan, razen le k izgubljenim ovcam Izraelove hiše.

²⁵But she came and worshiped him, saying, “Lord, help me.”

²⁵Ona pa pristopi ter pade pred njim, rekoč: Gospod, pomagaj mi!

²⁶But he answered, “It is not appropriate to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”

²⁶On pa odgovori in reče: Ni lepo, da se vzame kruh otrokom in se vrže psičkom.

²⁷But she said, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”

²⁷Ona pa reče: Da, Gospod, toda tudi psički jedo od drobtinic, ki padajo z mize njih gospodarjev.

²⁸Then Jesus answered her, “Woman, great is your faith! Be it done to you even as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.

²⁸Tedaj odgovori Jezus in ji veli: O žena, velika je vera tvoja. Zgodi naj se ti, kakor hočeš. In njena hči je ozdravela tisto uro.

²⁹Jesus departed there, and came near to the sea of Galilee; and he went up into the mountain, and sat there.

²⁹In Jezus odide odtod in pride h Galilejskemu morju, in stopivši na goro, sede tam.

³⁰Great multitudes came to him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others, and they put them down at his feet. He healed them,

³⁰In pridejo k njemu velike množice, ki so imeli s seboj hrome, slepce, mutce, pohabljene in mnogo drugih, ter jih polože k nogam Jezusovim; in on jih ozdravi,

³¹so that the multitude wondered when they saw the mute speaking, injured whole, lame walking, and blind seeing—and they glorified the God of Israel.

³¹tako da se ljudstvo začudi, ko vidijo, da mutci govore in pohabljeni so zdravi in hromi hodijo in slepci vidijo; in so slavili Boga Izraelovega.

³²Jesus summoned his disciples and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days and have nothing to eat. I don’t want to send them away fasting, or they might faint on the way.”

³²Pokliče pa Jezus učence svoje in reče: Ljudstvo se mi smili, ker so že tri dni pri meni in nimajo kaj jesti. A lačnih jih nočem odpraviti, da ne omagajo na poti.

³³The disciples said to him, “Where should we get so many loaves in a deserted place as to satisfy so great a multitude?”

³³In reko mu učenci njegovi: Odkod bi mi vzeli v puščavi toliko kruha, da bi nasitili toliko ljudstva?

³⁴Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven, and a few small fish.”

³⁴In reče jim Jezus: Koliko hlebov imate? Oni pa reko: Sedem, in malo ribic.

³⁵He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground;

³⁵In ukaže množici, naj sedejo po tleh.

³⁶and he took the seven loaves and the fish. He gave thanks and broke them, and gave to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.

³⁶In vzame sedmero hlebov in ribe in zahvalivši se, prelomi in da učencem, učenci pa ljudstvu.

³⁷They all ate, and were filled. They took up seven baskets full of the broken pieces that were left over.

³⁷In jedli so vsi in se nasitili; in pobrali so ostale kosce, polnih sedem košev.

³⁸Those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.

³⁸Bilo jih je pa, ki so jedli, štiri tisoč, brez žen in otrok.Razpustivši pa ljudstvo, stopi v ladjo in pride v pokrajino Magadansko.

³⁹Then he sent away the multitudes, got into the boat, and came into the borders of Magdala.
