³Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

⁴I thank my God always, making mention of you in my prayers,

⁴Zahvaljujem Boga svojega vsekdar, spominjajoč se tebe v molitvah svojih,

⁵hearing of your love, and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all the saints;

⁵ker slišim o ljubezni tvoji in veri, ki jo imaš v Gospoda Jezusa in do vseh svetih,

⁶that the fellowship of your faith may become effective, in the knowledge of every good thing which is in us in Christ Jesus.

⁶da se deleštvo vere tvoje izkaže delavno v pripoznanju vsega dobrega, kar je v nas za Kristusa.

⁷For we have much joy and comfort in your love, because the hearts of the saints have been refreshed through you, brother.

⁷Kajti v veliko radost in tolažbo mi je bila ljubezen tvoja, ker so se srca svetih poživila po tebi, brat.

⁸Therefore though I have all boldness in Christ to command you that which is appropriate,

⁸Zato, čeprav si dosti v Kristusu upam ukazati ti, kar je spodobno,

⁹yet for love’s sake I rather beg, being such a one as Paul, the aged, but also a prisoner of Jesus Christ.

¹⁰I beg you for my child, whom I have become the father of in my chains, Onesimus, Onesimus means “useful.”

¹⁰prosim te za dete svoje, ki sem ga rodil v sponah svojih, Onezima,

¹¹who once was useless to you, but now is useful to you and to me.

¹¹ki ti je bil nekdaj nekoristen, sedaj pa je tebi in meni koristen;

¹²I am sending him back. Therefore receive him, that is, my own heart,

¹²ki ti ga nazaj pošiljam, njega, to je: srce moje.

¹³whom I desired to keep with me, that on your behalf he might serve me in my chains for the Good News.

¹³Jaz bi ga bil rad obdržal pri sebi, da bi mi zate služil v sponah evangelija;

¹⁴But I was willing to do nothing without your consent, that your goodness would not be as of necessity, but of free will.

¹⁴toda brez tvojega privoljenja nisem hotel ničesar storiti, da dobrota tvoja ne bode kakor po sili, ampak prostovoljna.

¹⁵For perhaps he was therefore separated from you for a while, that you would have him forever,

¹⁵Kajti lahko da je bil zato nekaj časa ločen od tebe, da bi ga imel vekomaj,

¹⁶no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, a beloved brother, especially to me, but how much rather to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.

¹⁶ne več za hlapca, ampak nad hlapca, za brata ljubljenega, sosebno meni, koliko bolj pa tebi, i po mesu i v Gospodu.

¹⁷If then you count me a partner, receive him as you would receive me.

¹⁷Če imaš torej mene za tovariša, sprejmi ga kakor mene.

¹⁸But if he has wronged you at all, or owes you anything, put that to my account.

¹⁸Če ti je pa storil kaj žalega ali ti je dolžan, tisto vštej meni:

¹⁹I, Paul, write this with my own hand: I will repay it (not to mention to you that you owe to me even your own self besides).

¹⁹jaz Pavel pišem s svojo roko, jaz to poplačam – da ti ne rečem, da si mi tudi še samega sebe dolžan.

²⁰Yes, brother, let me have joy from you in the Lord. Refresh my heart in the Lord.

²⁰Da, brat, da bi jaz imel korist od tebe v Gospodu! Poživi srce moje v Kristusu!

²¹Having confidence in your obedience, I write to you, knowing that you will do even beyond what I say.

²¹Zaupajoč v pokorščino tvojo, ti pišem, vedoč, da boš še več storil, nego pravim.

²²Also, prepare a guest room for me, for I hope that through your prayers I will be restored to you.

²²Zraven tega pa mi pripravi tudi stanovanje; kajti upam, da vam bom podarjen po molitvah vaših.

²³Epaphras, my fellow prisoner in Christ Jesus, greets you,

²³Pozdravlja te Epafra, sojetnik moj v Kristusu Jezusu,
