¹When it was determined that we should sail for Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners to a centurion named Julius, of the Augustan band.

²Embarking in a ship of Adramyttium, which was about to sail to places on the coast of Asia, we put to sea; Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us.

²เราทั้งหลายจึงลงเรือลำหนึ่งมาจากเมืองอัดรามิททิยุม ซึ่งจะออกไปยังตำบลที่อยู่ตามฝั่งแคว้นเอเชีย เรือก็ออกทะเล มีคนหนึ่งอยู่กับเราชื่ออาริสทารคัส ชาวมาซิโดเนียซึ่งมาจากเมืองเธสะโลนิกา

³The next day, we touched at Sidon. Julius treated Paul kindly, and gave him permission to go to his friends and refresh himself.

³วันรุ่งขึ้นเราได้แวะที่เมืองไซดอน ฝ่ายยูเลียสมีใจเมตตาปรานีแก่เปาโล ยอมให้เปาโลไปหามิตรสหายทั้งหลายเพื่อจะได้บรรเทาใจ

⁴Putting to sea from there, we sailed under the lee of Cyprus, because the winds were contrary.

⁴ครั้นเรือออกจากที่นั่นแล้ว จึงแล่นไปทางด้านปลอดลมของเกาะไซปรัสเพราะทวนลม

⁵When we had sailed across the sea which is off Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia.

⁵เมื่อแล่นข้ามทะเลที่อยู่ตรงแคว้นซีลีเซียกับแคว้นปัมฟีเลีย ก็มาถึงเมืองมิราที่อยู่ในแคว้นลีเซีย

⁶There the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing for Italy, and he put us on board.

⁶ที่เมืองนั้นนายร้อยได้พบเรือลำหนึ่งมาจากเมืองอเล็กซานเดรียจะไปยังประเทศอิตาลี ท่านจึงให้พวกเราลงเรือลำนั้น

⁷When we had sailed slowly many days, and had come with difficulty opposite Cnidus, the wind not allowing us further, we sailed under the lee of Crete, opposite Salmone.

⁷เราแล่นไปช้าๆหลายวันและได้มาถึงเมืองคนีดัสโดยยาก เมื่อแล่นทวนลมต่อไปไม่ไหว เราจึงแล่นไปทางด้านปลอดลมของเกาะครีตตรงเมืองสัลโมเน

⁸With difficulty sailing along it we came to a certain place called Fair Havens, near the city of Lasea.

⁸เมื่อเรือแล่นเลียบฝั่งเกาะนั้นอย่างยากเย็น เราจึงมายังตำบลหนึ่งชื่อว่า ท่างาม เมืองลาเซียอยู่ใกล้ที่นั่น

⁹When much time had passed and the voyage was now dangerous, because the Fast had now already gone by, Paul admonished them,

⁹ครั้นเสียเวลาไปมากแล้วและการที่จะเดินเรือก็มีอันตราย เพราะเทศกาลอดอาหารผ่านไปแล้ว เปาโลจึงเตือนสติเขาทั้งหลาย

¹⁰and said to them, “Sirs, I perceive that the voyage will be with injury and much loss, not only of the cargo and the ship, but also of our lives.”

¹⁰ว่า "ท่านทั้งหลาย ข้าพเจ้าเห็นว่าซึ่งเราจะแล่นไปคราวนี้จะมีอันตรายและเสียหายมาก มิใช่แต่ของบรรทุกกับเรือกำปั่นเท่านั้นแต่ชีวิตของเราทั้งหลายด้วย"

¹¹But the centurion gave more heed to the master and to the owner of the ship than to those things which were spoken by Paul.

¹¹แต่นายร้อยเชื่อกัปตันและเจ้าของกำปั่นมากกว่าเชื่อคำที่เปาโลกล่าวนั้น

¹²Because the haven was not suitable to winter in, the majority advised going to sea from there, if by any means they could reach Phoenix, and winter there, which is a port of Crete, looking northeast and southeast.

¹²และเพราะว่าท่างามนั้นไม่เหมาะพอที่จะจอดในฤดูหนาว คนส่วนมากจึงตกลงให้ออกทะเลไปจากที่นั่น เพื่อถ้าเป็นได้จะได้ไปให้ถึงเมืองฟีนิกส์ แล้วจะจอดอยู่ที่นั่นตลอดฤดูหนาว เมืองฟีนิกส์นั้นเป็นท่าเรือแห่งเกาะครีต หันหน้าไปทางทิศตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือกับเฉียงใต้

¹³When the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, they weighed anchor and sailed along Crete, close to shore.

¹³เมื่อลมทิศใต้พัดมาเบาๆ เขาก็คิดว่าสมความปรารถนาแล้ว จึงถอนสมอแล่นเลียบฝั่งไปตามเกาะครีต

¹⁴But before long, a stormy wind beat down from shore, which is called Euroclydon. Or, “a northeaster.”

¹⁴แต่แล่นไปไม่ช้าเรือกำปั่นก็ถูกลมพายุกล้าที่เขาเรียกว่า ยุระกิโล

¹⁵When the ship was caught, and couldn’t face the wind, we gave way to it, and were driven along.

¹⁵ครั้นเรือกำปั่นถูกพายุและต้านลมไม่ไหว เราจึงปล่อยไปตามลม

¹⁶Running under the lee of a small island called Clauda, we were able, with difficulty, to secure the boat.

¹⁶เมื่อแล่นไปทางด้านปลอดลมของเกาะเล็กๆแห่งหนึ่งชื่อว่าคลาวดา เราจึงยกเรือเล็กขึ้นผูกไว้ได้แต่มีความลำบากมาก

¹⁷After they had hoisted it up, they used cables to help reinforce the ship. Fearing that they would run aground on the Syrtis sand bars, they lowered the sea anchor, and so were driven along.

¹⁷เมื่อยกเรือขึ้นแล้ว เราก็เอาเชือกผูกโอบรอบเรือกำปั่นไว้ และเพราะกลัวว่าจะเกยสันดอนทราย จึงลดใบลงแล้วก็ปล่อยให้ไปตามกระแสลม

¹⁸As we labored exceedingly with the storm, the next day they began to throw things overboard.

¹⁸ครั้นรุ่งขึ้นเราก็ขนของบรรทุกทิ้งเสีย เพราะถูกพายุใหญ่

¹⁹On the third day, they threw out the ship’s tackle with their own hands.

¹⁹พอถึงวันที่สามเราก็ทิ้งเครื่องใช้ในเรือกำปั่นออกเสียด้วยมือของเราเอง

²⁰When neither sun nor stars shone on us for many days, and no small storm pressed on us, all hope that we would be saved was now taken away.

²⁰และเมื่อไม่เห็นดวงอาทิตย์หรือดวงดาวตั้งหลายวันแล้ว และยังถูกพายุใหญ่อยู่ ความหวังที่เราทั้งหลายจะรอดนั้นก็ล้มละลายไป

²¹When they had been long without food, Paul stood up in the middle of them, and said, “Sirs, you should have listened to me, and not have set sail from Crete, and have gotten this injury and loss.

²¹ครั้นเขาได้อดอาหารมานานแล้ว เปาโลจึงยืนอยู่ในหมู่เขากล่าวว่า "ท่านทั้งหลาย ท่านควรได้ฟังข้าพเจ้าและไม่ควรออกจากเกาะครีตเลย จะได้พ้นจากอันตรายนี้และไม่เสียสิ่งของ

²²Now I exhort you to cheer up, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship.

²²บัดนี้ข้าพเจ้าขอเตือนท่านทั้งหลายให้ทำใจดีๆไว้ ด้วยว่าในพวกท่านจะไม่มีผู้ใดเสียชีวิต จะเสียก็แต่เรือเท่านั้น

²³For there stood by me this night an angel, belonging to the God whose I am and whom I serve,

²³เพราะว่า เมื่อคืนนี้เองทูตสวรรค์ของพระเจ้าผู้เป็นเจ้าของข้าพเจ้า ซึ่งข้าพเจ้าได้ปรนนิบัตินั้นได้มายืนอยู่ใกล้ข้าพเจ้า

²⁴saying, ‘Don’t be afraid, Paul. You must stand before Caesar. Behold, God has granted you all those who sail with you.’

²⁴ทูตนั้นกล่าวว่า `เปาโลเอ๋ย อย่ากลัวเลย ท่านจะต้องเข้าเฝ้าซีซาร์ ส่วนคนทั้งปวงที่อยู่ในเรือกับท่านนั้น ดูเถิด พระเจ้าจะทรงโปรดให้รอดตายเพราะเห็นแก่ท่าน'

²⁵Therefore, sirs, cheer up! For I believe God, that it will be just as it has been spoken to me.

²⁵เพราะฉะนั้น ท่านทั้งหลายจงทำใจดีๆไว้ เพราะข้าพเจ้าเชื่อพระเจ้าว่า การณ์จะเป็นไปเหมือนอย่างที่พระองค์ได้ทรงกล่าวแก่ข้าพเจ้านั้น

²⁶But we must run aground on a certain island.”

²⁶แต่ว่าเราจะต้องเกยเกาะแห่งหนึ่ง"

²⁷But when the fourteenth night had come, as we were driven back and forth in the Adriatic Sea, about midnight the sailors surmised that they were drawing near to some land.

²⁷จนถึงคืนที่สิบสี่แล้ว เราก็ยังถูกซัดไปซัดมาอยู่ในทะเลอาเดรีย ประมาณเที่ยงคืนพวกกะลาสีก็สำคัญว่ามาใกล้แผ่นดินแล้ว

²⁸They took soundings, and found twenty fathoms. 20 fathoms = 120 feet = 36.6 meters After a little while, they took soundings again, and found fifteen fathoms. 15 fathoms = 90 feet = 27.4 meters

²⁸ครั้นหยั่งน้ำดูก็วัดได้ลึกสี่สิบเมตร เมื่อไปอีกหน่อยหนึ่งก็หยั่งน้ำวัดอีกได้สามสิบเมตร

²⁹Fearing that we would run aground on rocky ground, they let go four anchors from the stern, and wished for daylight.

²⁹เขาก็กลัวว่าจะโดนฝั่งที่มีหิน จึงทอดสมอท้ายสี่ตัว แล้วตั้งหน้าคอยเวลารุ่งเช้า

³⁰As the sailors were trying to flee out of the ship, and had lowered the boat into the sea, pretending that they would lay out anchors from the bow,

³⁰เมื่อพวกกะลาสีหาช่องจะหนีจากกำปั่นและได้หย่อนเรือเล็กลงที่ทะเลแล้วทำทีว่าจะทอดสมอจากหัวเรือ

³¹Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, “Unless these stay in the ship, you can’t be saved.”

³¹เปาโลจึงกล่าวแก่นายร้อยและพวกทหารว่า "ถ้าคนเหล่านั้นไม่คงอยู่ในกำปั่น ท่านทั้งหลายจะรอดตายไม่ได้เลย"

³²Then the soldiers cut away the ropes of the boat, and let it fall off.

³²พวกทหารจึงตัดเชือกที่ผูกเรือเล็กให้เรือตกลงไป

³³While the day was coming on, Paul begged them all to take some food, saying, “This day is the fourteenth day that you wait and continue fasting, having taken nothing.

³³เมื่อจวนรุ่งเช้าเปาโลจึงวิงวอนคนทั้งปวงให้รับประทานอาหารและกล่าวว่า "วันนี้เป็นวันที่สิบสี่ที่ท่านทั้งหลายต้องค้างอยู่ในเรือและอดอาหารมิได้รับประทานอะไรเลย

³⁴Therefore I beg you to take some food, for this is for your safety; for not a hair will perish from any of your heads.”

³⁴ฉะนั้นข้าพเจ้าขอวิงวอนท่านทั้งหลายให้รับประทานอาหารเสียบ้าง เพื่อจะดำรงชีวิตอยู่ได้ เพราะเส้นผมของผู้หนึ่งผู้ใดในพวกท่านจะไม่เสียไปสักเส้นเดียว"

³⁵When he had said this, and had taken bread, he gave thanks to God in the presence of all, and he broke it, and began to eat.

³⁵ครั้นกล่าวอย่างนั้นแล้ว ท่านจึงหยิบขนมปังขอบพระเดชพระคุณพระเจ้าต่อหน้าคนทั้งปวง เมื่อหักแล้วก็เริ่มรับประทาน

³⁶Then they all cheered up, and they also took food.

³⁶คนทั้งปวงก็มีกำลังใจขึ้นจึงรับประทานอาหารด้วย

³⁷In all, we were two hundred seventy-six souls on the ship.

³⁷เราทั้งหลายที่อยู่ในกำปั่นนั้นรวมสองร้อยเจ็ดสิบหกคน

³⁸When they had eaten enough, they lightened the ship, throwing out the wheat into the sea.

³⁸เมื่อรับประทานอาหารอิ่มแล้ว จึงขนข้าวสาลีในกำปั่นทิ้งเสียในทะเลเพื่อให้กำปั่นเบาขึ้น

³⁹When it was day, they didn’t recognize the land, but they noticed a certain bay with a beach, and they decided to try to drive the ship onto it.

³⁹ครั้นสว่างแล้วเขาก็ไม่รู้ว่าเป็นแผ่นดินอะไร แต่เขาเห็นอ่าวแห่งหนึ่งที่มีหาด จึงตกลงกันว่า ถ้าเป็นได้จะให้เรือเข้าเกยหาดนั้น

⁴⁰Casting off the anchors, they left them in the sea, at the same time untying the rudder ropes. Hoisting up the foresail to the wind, they made for the beach.

⁴⁰เขาจึงตัดสายสมอทิ้งเสียในทะเล แล้วก็แก้เชือกที่มัดหางเสือ และชักใบหัวเรือขึ้นให้กินลมแล่นตรงเข้าไปหาฝั่ง

⁴¹But coming to a place where two seas met, they ran the vessel aground. The bow struck and remained immovable, but the stern began to break up by the violence of the waves.

⁴¹ครั้นมาถึงตำบลหนึ่งที่ทะเลสองข้างบรรจบกัน กำปั่นก็เกยดิน หัวเรือติดแน่นออกไม่ได้ แต่ท้ายเรือนั้นก็แตกออกด้วยกำลังคลื่น

⁴²The soldiers’ counsel was to kill the prisoners, so that none of them would swim out and escape.

⁴²พวกทหารคิดจะฆ่านักโทษทั้งหลายเสีย กลัวว่าจะมีผู้ใดว่ายน้ำหนีไปได้

⁴³But the centurion, desiring to save Paul, stopped them from their purpose, and commanded that those who could swim should throw themselves overboard first to go toward the land;

⁴³แต่นายร้อยปรารถนาจะให้เปาโลรอดตาย จึงห้ามพวกทหารมิให้ทำตามความคิดนั้น แล้วสั่งคนทั้งหลายที่ว่ายน้ำเป็นให้กระโดดน้ำว่ายไปหาฝั่งก่อน

⁴⁴and the rest should follow, some on planks, and some on other things from the ship. So it happened that they all escaped safely to the land.

⁴⁴ฝ่ายคนทั้งหลายที่เหลือนั้นก็เกาะกระดานไปบ้าง เกาะไม้กำปั่นที่หักไปบ้าง ดังนั้นเขาทั้งหลายก็ถึงฝั่งรอดตายหมดทุกคน
