¹Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

¹มีชายคนหนึ่งในพวกฟาริสีชื่อนิโคเดมัสเป็นขุนนางของพวกยิว

²The same came to him by night, and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him.”

²ชายผู้นี้ได้มาหาพระเยซูในเวลากลางคืนและทูลพระองค์ว่า "รับบี พวกข้าพเจ้าทราบอยู่ว่าท่านเป็นครูที่มาจากพระเจ้า เพราะไม่มีผู้ใดกระทำการอัศจรรย์ซึ่งท่านได้กระทำนั้นได้ นอกจากว่าพระเจ้าทรงสถิตอยู่กับเขาด้วย"

³Jesus answered him, “Most certainly, I tell you, unless one is born anew, The word translated “anew” here and in John 3:7 (anothen) also means “again” and “from above”. he can’t see the Kingdom of God.”

³พระเยซูตรัสตอบเขาว่า "เราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านว่า ถ้าผู้ใดไม่ได้บังเกิดใหม่ ผู้นั้นจะเห็นอาณาจักรของพระเจ้าไม่ได้"

⁴Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?”

⁴นิโคเดมัสทูลพระองค์ว่า "คนชราแล้วจะบังเกิดใหม่อย่างไรได้ จะเข้าในครรภ์มารดาครั้งที่สองและบังเกิดใหม่ได้หรือ"

⁵Jesus answered, “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born of water and spirit, he can’t enter into the Kingdom of God!

⁵พระเยซูตรัสตอบว่า "เราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านว่า ถ้าผู้ใดไม่ได้บังเกิดจากน้ำและพระวิญญาณ ผู้นั้นจะเข้าในอาณาจักรของพระเจ้าไม่ได้

⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

⁶ซึ่งบังเกิดจากเนื้อหนังก็เป็นเนื้อหนัง และซึ่งบังเกิดจากพระวิญญาณก็คือจิตวิญญาณ

⁷ Don’t marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born anew.’

⁷อย่าประหลาดใจที่เราบอกท่านว่า ท่านต้องบังเกิดใหม่

⁸ The wind The same Greek word (pneuma) means wind, breath, and spirit. blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but don’t know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

⁸ลมใคร่จะพัดไปข้างไหนก็พัดไปข้างนั้น และท่านได้ยินเสียงลมนั้น แต่ท่านไม่รู้ว่าลมมาจากไหนและไปที่ไหน คนที่บังเกิดจากพระวิญญาณก็เป็นอย่างนั้นทุกคน"

⁹Nicodemus answered him, “How can these things be?”

⁹นิโคเดมัสทูลพระองค์ว่า "เหตุการณ์อย่างนี้จะเป็นไปอย่างไรได้"

¹⁰Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and don’t understand these things?

¹⁰พระเยซูตรัสตอบเขาว่า "ท่านเป็นอาจารย์ของชนอิสราเอล และยังไม่เข้าใจสิ่งเหล่านี้หรือ

¹¹ Most certainly I tell you, we speak that which we know, and testify of that which we have seen, and you don’t receive our witness.

¹¹เราบอกความจริงแก่ท่านว่า พวกเราพูดสิ่งที่เรารู้ และเป็นพยานถึงสิ่งที่เราได้เห็น และท่านหาได้รับคำพยานของเราไม่

¹² If I told you earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

¹²ถ้าเราบอกท่านถึงสิ่งฝ่ายโลกและท่านไม่เชื่อ ถ้าเราบอกท่านถึงสิ่งฝ่ายสวรรค์ ท่านจะเชื่อได้อย่างไร

¹³ No one has ascended into heaven, but he who descended out of heaven, the Son of Man, who is in heaven.

¹³ไม่มีผู้ใดได้ขึ้นไปสู่สวรรค์นอกจากท่านที่ลงมาจากสวรรค์ คือบุตรมนุษย์ผู้ทรงสถิตในสวรรค์นั้น

¹⁴ As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

¹⁴โมเสสได้ยกงูขึ้นในถิ่นทุรกันดารฉันใด บุตรมนุษย์จะต้องถูกยกขึ้นฉันนั้น

¹⁵ that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

¹⁵เพื่อทุกคนที่เชื่อในพระองค์จะไม่พินาศ แต่มีชีวิตนิรันดร์

¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

¹⁶เพราะว่าพระเจ้าทรงรักโลก จนได้ทรงประทานพระบุตรองค์เดียวของพระองค์ เพื่อทุกคนที่เชื่อในพระบุตรนั้นจะไม่พินาศ แต่มีชีวิตนิรันดร์

¹⁷ For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.

¹⁷เพราะว่าพระเจ้าไม่ได้ทรงใช้พระบุตรของพระองค์เข้ามาในโลกเพื่อจะพิพากษาโลก แต่เพื่อช่วยโลกให้รอดโดยพระบุตรนั้น

¹⁸ He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn’t believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.

¹⁸ผู้ที่เชื่อในพระบุตรก็ไม่ต้องถูกพิพากษา แต่ผู้ที่มิได้เชื่อก็ต้องถูกพิพากษาอยู่แล้ว เพราะเขามิได้เชื่อในพระนามพระบุตรองค์เดียวของพระเจ้า

¹⁹ This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil.

¹⁹หลักของการพิพากษามีอย่างนี้ คือความสว่างได้เข้ามาในโลกแล้ว แต่มนุษย์ได้รักความมืดมากกว่ารักความสว่าง เพราะกิจการของเขาชั่ว

²⁰ For everyone who does evil hates the light, and doesn’t come to the light, lest his works would be exposed.

²⁰เพราะทุกคนที่ประพฤติชั่วก็เกลียดความสว่าง และไม่มาถึงความสว่าง ด้วยกลัวว่าการกระทำของตนจะถูกตำหนิ

²¹ But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God.”

²¹แต่ผู้ที่ประพฤติตามความจริงก็มาสู่ความสว่าง เพื่อจะให้การกระทำของตนปรากฏว่า ได้กระทำการนั้นโดยพึ่งพระเจ้า"

²²After these things, Jesus came with his disciples into the land of Judea. He stayed there with them, and baptized.

²²ภายหลังเหตุการณ์เหล่านี้พระเยซูก็เสด็จเข้าไปในแคว้นยูเดียกับสาวกของพระองค์ และทรงประทับที่นั่นกับเขา และให้บัพติศมา

²³John also was baptizing in Enon near Salim, because there was much water there. They came, and were baptized.

²³ยอห์นก็ให้บัพติศมาอยู่ที่อายโนนใกล้หมู่บ้านสาลิมเหมือนกัน เพราะที่นั่นมีน้ำมาก และผู้คนก็พากันมารับบัพติศมา

²⁴For John was not yet thrown into prison.

²⁴เพราะยอห์นยังไม่ติดคุก

²⁵There arose therefore a questioning on the part of John’s disciples with some Jews about purification.

²⁵เกิดการโต้เถียงกันขึ้นระหว่างสาวกของยอห์นกับพวกยิวเรื่องการชำระ

²⁶They came to John, and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified, behold, the same baptizes, and everyone is coming to him.”

²⁶สาวกของยอห์นจึงไปหายอห์นและพูดว่า "รับบี ท่านที่อยู่กับอาจารย์ฟากแม่น้ำจอร์แดนข้างโน้น ผู้ที่อาจารย์เป็นพยานถึงนั้น ดูเถิด ท่านผู้นั้นให้บัพติศมาและคนทั้งปวงก็พากันไปหาท่าน"

²⁷John answered, “A man can receive nothing, unless it has been given him from heaven.

²⁷ยอห์นตอบว่า "มนุษย์จะรับสิ่งใดไม่ได้ นอกจากที่ทรงประทานจากสวรรค์ให้เขา

²⁸You yourselves testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before him.’

²⁸ท่านทั้งหลายเองก็ได้เป็นพยานของข้าพเจ้าว่า ข้าพเจ้าได้พูดว่า ข้าพเจ้ามิใช่พระคริสต์ แต่ข้าพเจ้าได้รับพระบัญชาให้นำเสด็จพระองค์

²⁹He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. This, my joy, therefore is made full.

²⁹ท่านที่มีเจ้าสาวนั่นแหละคือเจ้าบ่าว แต่สหายของเจ้าบ่าวที่ยืนฟังเจ้าบ่าว ก็ชื่นชมยินดีอย่างยิ่งเมื่อได้ยินเสียงของเจ้าบ่าว ฉะนั้นความปีติยินดีของข้าพเจ้าจึงเต็มเปี่ยมแล้ว

³⁰He must increase, but I must decrease.

³⁰พระองค์ต้องทรงยิ่งใหญ่ขึ้น แต่ข้าพเจ้าต้องด้อยลง"

³¹He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.

³¹พระองค์ผู้เสด็จมาจากเบื้องบนทรงเป็นใหญ่เหนือทุกสิ่ง ผู้ที่มาจากโลกก็เป็นฝ่ายโลกและพูดตามอย่างโลก พระองค์ผู้เสด็จมาจากสวรรค์ทรงเป็นใหญ่เหนือทุกสิ่ง

³²What he has seen and heard, of that he testifies; and no one receives his witness.

³²พระองค์ทรงเป็นพยานถึงสิ่งซึ่งพระองค์ทอดพระเนตรเห็นและได้ยิน แต่ไม่มีผู้ใดรับคำพยานของพระองค์

³³He who has received his witness has set his seal to this, that God is true.

³³ผู้ที่รับคำพยานของพระองค์ก็ประทับตราลงว่า พระเจ้าทรงสัตย์จริง

³⁴For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God gives the Spirit without measure.

³⁴เพราะพระองค์ ผู้ที่พระเจ้าทรงใช้มานั้น ทรงกล่าวพระวจนะของพระเจ้า เพราะพระเจ้ามิได้ทรงประทานพระวิญญาณอย่างจำกัดแด่พระองค์

³⁵The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.

³⁵พระบิดาทรงรักพระบุตรและทรงมอบทุกสิ่งไว้ในพระหัตถ์ของพระองค์

³⁶One who believes in the Son has eternal life, but one who disobeys The same word can be translated “disobeys” or “disbelieves” in this context. the Son won’t see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”

³⁶ผู้ที่เชื่อในพระบุตรก็มีชีวิตนิรันดร์ ผู้ที่ไม่เชื่อในพระบุตรก็จะไม่เห็นชีวิต แต่พระพิโรธของพระเจ้าตกอยู่กับเขา
