1 Man njiit li, maa ngi lay bind, yaw sama xarit Gayus, mi ma bëgg ci sama xol.
1The elder to the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth.
2 Sama soppe, maa ngi ñaan, Yàlla may la jàmm ci lépp, ànd ak wér gi yaram, ju mel ni sa naataangeg xol.
2Beloved, I desire that in all things thou shouldest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers.
3 Sunuy mbokk ñëw nañu, te seede ni nga fonke dëgg gi, ba wéer ci sa dund gépp, te bég naa ci lool.
3For I rejoiced exceedingly when [the] brethren came and bore testimony to thy [holding fast the] truth, even as *thou* walkest in truth.
4 Awma mbég mu ëpp lii: ma dégg ne samay doomi diine ñu ngiy jaar ci tànki dëgg.
4I have no greater joy than these things that I hear of my children walking in the truth.
5 Yaw sama xarit, sa takkute fés na ci teeru bi ngay teeru mbokk yi, te fekk xamoo leen.
5Beloved, thou doest faithfully [in] whatever thou mayest have wrought towards the brethren and that strangers,
6 Seedeel nañu sa mbëggeel fi kanam mbooloom ñi gëm. Taxawu leen nag ci seen yoon taxawu gu neex Yàlla.
6(who have witnessed of thy love before [the] assembly,) in setting forward whom on their journey worthily of God, thou wilt do well;
7 Ndaxte turu Krist la leen taxa jóg, te sàkkuwuñu daray ku gëmul.
7for for the name have they gone forth, taking nothing of those of the nations.
8 Nun nag fàww nu teeru ñu mel ni ñoom, ngir nu liggéeyandoo ak dëgg gi.
8*We* therefore ought to receive such, that we may be fellow-workers with the truth.
9 Bind naa mbooloo mi bataaxel, waaye Jotref, mi bëgg noot ñépp, du dégg sunu ndigal.
9I wrote something to the assembly; but Diotrephes, who loves to have the first place among them, receives us not.
10 Kon nag su ma ñëwee, dinaa fàttali li mu def lépp, ci di nu sosal ci kàdduy neen yu ñaaw. Yemu foofu sax, waaye nanguwula teeru mbokk yi, rax-ca-dolli ku leen bëgga teeru, mu gàllankoor ko, dàq ko ci mbooloo mi.
10For this reason, if I come, I will bring to remembrance his works which he does, babbling against us with wicked words; and not content with these, neither does he himself receive the brethren; and those who would he prevents, and casts [them] out of the assembly.
11 Sama xarit, bul roy lu bon, waaye lu baax rekk. Kuy def lu baax, ci Yàlla nga bokk; kuy def lu bon, xamoo dara ci Yàlla.
11Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He that does good is of God. He that does evil has not seen God.
12 Naka Démétrius nag, ñépp seedeel nañu ko lu baax, te dëgg gi sax seedeel na ko ko. Nun itam seedeel nanu ko te wóor na ma ne, sunu seede dëgg la.
12Demetrius has witness borne to him by all, and by the truth itself; and *we* also bear witness, and thou knowest that our witness is true.
13 Am na lu bare, lu ma la bëggoona wax, waaye lépp xajul ci kayit.
13I had many things to write to thee, but I will not with ink and pen write to thee;
14 Kon yaakaar naa laa seetsi balaa yàgg, jàkkaarlook yaw, nu waxtaan ci.
14but I hope soon to see thee, and we will speak mouth to mouth.
15 Na jàmm ànd ak yaw. Xarit yi yépp ñu ngi lay nuyu. Nuyul nu sunuy xarit, kenn ku nekk ci turam.
15Peace [be] to thee. The friends greet thee. Greet the friends by name.
