¹I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid?

¹約伯雖然受苦仍守道不渝“我與自己的眼睛立了約，決不注視處女。

²For what portion of God is there from above? and what inheritance of the Almighty from on high?

²從至上的　神所得的分，從至高的全能者所得的業是甚麼呢？

³Is not destruction to the wicked? and a strange punishment to the workers of iniquity?

³災難不是臨到不義的人嗎？災禍不是臨到作孽的人嗎？

⁴Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?

⁴　神不是察看我的道路，數算我的一切腳步嗎？

⁵If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit;

⁵我若與虛謊同行，我的腳若急於追隨詭詐，

⁶Let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity.

⁶就願我被公平的天平稱度，使　神可以知道我的完全。

⁷If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands;

⁷我的腳步若偏離正道，我的心若隨從眼目而行，我的手掌若黏有任何污點，

⁸Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out.

⁸就願我所種的，讓別人來吃，願我田中出產的，都連根拔起來。

⁹If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour's door;

⁹我的心若被女人迷惑，在別人的門口埋伏，

¹⁰Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her.

¹⁰就願我的妻子作別人的奴僕，也願別人屈身與她行淫，

¹¹For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges.

¹¹因為這是大惡，是該受審判的罪孽；

¹²For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.

¹²這是焚燒直至毀滅的火，必把我所有的收穫都拔出來。

¹³If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me;

¹³我的僕婢與我爭論的時候，我若輕視他們的案件，

¹⁴What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him?

¹⁴　神若起來，我怎麼辦呢？他若鑒察，我怎樣回答呢？

¹⁵Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

¹⁵那造我在母腹中的，不也造他嗎？造我們在母胎裡的，不是同一位嗎？

¹⁶If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail;

¹⁶我若不給窮人所要的，或使寡婦的眼所期待的落空；

¹⁷Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof;

¹⁷我若獨吃我的一點食物，孤兒卻沒有與我同吃；

¹⁸(For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother's womb;)

¹⁸自我幼年時，孤兒與我一同長大，以我為父，從我出母腹以來，我就善待寡婦。

¹⁹If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering;

¹⁹我若見人因無衣服死亡，或貧窮人毫無遮蓋；

²⁰If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep;

²⁰他若不因我的羊毛得溫暖，他的心若不向我道謝；

²¹If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate:

²¹我若在城門見有支持我的，就揮手攻擊孤兒，

²²Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.

²²就願我的肩頭從肩胛脫落，願我的前臂從上臂折斷；

²³For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure.

²³因為　神所降的災難使我恐懼，因他的崇高我不敢妄為。

²⁴If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence;

²⁴我若以黃金為我所信靠的，又對精金說：‘你是我所靠賴的’；

²⁵If I rejoice because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;

²⁵我若因為財物豐裕，或因為我多獲財利而歡喜；

²⁶If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

²⁶我若見太陽照耀，或明月行在空中，

²⁷And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand:

²⁷以致心中暗暗地受到迷惑，用自己的嘴親手；

²⁸This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.

²⁸那麼這也就是該受審判的罪孽，因為我欺哄了高高在上的　神。

²⁹If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him:

²⁹我若因恨我的人遭災禍而歡喜，或因他遇患難而高興；

³⁰Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.

³⁰我並沒有容許我的口犯罪，咒詛他的性命。

³¹If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied.

³¹我家裡的人若沒有說：‘誰能找出哪一個沒有飽吃他的肉食的呢？’

³²The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.

³²旅客沒有在街上過夜，我的門向過路的人是敞開的。

³³If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:

³³我若像亞當遮掩我的過犯，把我的罪孽藏在懷中，

³⁴Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door?

³⁴因為我懼怕群眾，宗族的藐視又使我驚恐，以致我靜默不言，足不出門。

³⁵Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book.

³⁵但願有一位肯聽我的，看哪！這是我所劃的押，願全能者回答我，願那與我爭訟的寫好狀詞。

³⁶Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me.

³⁶我定要把它帶到我的肩上，綁在我的頭上為冠冕。

³⁷I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.

³⁷我要向他述說全部的行為，又像王子一般進到他面前。

³⁸If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain;

³⁸我的田地若呼冤控告我，地的犁溝若都一同哀哭；

³⁹If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life:

³⁹我若吃地裡的出產而不給價銀，或使地主氣絕身亡，

⁴⁰Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.

⁴⁰就願蒺藜長出來代替小麥，臭草代替大麥。”約伯的話說完了。
