¹Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said,

¹以利法首次發言責難約伯提幔人以利法回答說：

²If we assay to commune with thee, wilt thou be grieved? but who can withhold himself from speaking?

²“人若對你說一句話，你就厭煩嗎？但誰又忍得住不說話呢？

³Behold, thou hast instructed many, and thou hast strengthened the weak hands.

³你曾經教過許多人，又堅固了無力的手；

⁴Thy words have upholden him that was falling, and thou hast strengthened the feeble knees.

⁴你的話扶起了絆倒的人，你使彎曲乏力的膝堅挺。

⁵But now it is come upon thee, and thou faintest; it toucheth thee, and thou art troubled.

⁵但現在禍患臨到你，你就灰心，災禍遇上你，你就驚惶沮喪。

⁶Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?

⁶　神賞善罰惡你所自恃的，不是敬畏　神嗎？你所盼望的，不是行為完全嗎？

⁷Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?

⁷請想一想，無辜的人有誰滅亡？哪有正直的人被剪除呢？

⁸Even as I have seen, they that plow iniquity, and sow wickedness, reap the same.

⁸據我所見，耕耘罪孽的，必收割罪孽；種植毒害的，必收割毒害。

⁹By the blast of God they perish, and by the breath of his nostrils are they consumed.

⁹他們因　神的氣息而滅亡，因他的怒氣而消滅。

¹⁰The roaring of the lion, and the voice of the fierce lion, and the teeth of the young lions, are broken.

¹⁰獅子的咆哮，猛獅的吼聲，盡都止息，壯獅的牙齒也都斷掉。

¹¹The old lion perisheth for lack of prey, and the stout lion's whelps are scattered abroad.

¹¹公獅因缺乏獵物而死亡，母獅之子也被分散。

¹²Now a thing was secretly brought to me, and mine ear received a little thereof.

¹²世人微不足道有話偷偷傳給我，我的耳朵聽到細語；

¹³In thoughts from the visions of the night, when deep sleep falleth on men,

¹³在夜間因異象而煩擾的心思中，世上都在沉睡的時候，

¹⁴Fear came upon me, and trembling, which made all my bones to shake.

¹⁴恐懼戰慄臨到我，以致我全身發抖。

¹⁵Then a spirit passed before my face; the hair of my flesh stood up:

¹⁵有靈拂過我面前，使我毛骨悚然。

¹⁶It stood still, but I could not discern the form thereof: an image was before mine eyes, there was silence, and I heard a voice, saying,

¹⁶那靈站住，我辨不出他的形狀，只見有一形象在我眼前，然後我聽見低微的聲音，說：

¹⁷Shall mortal man be more just than God? shall a man be more pure than his maker?

¹⁷‘人能在　神面前算為公義嗎？人能在他的創造主面前算為潔淨嗎？

¹⁸Behold, he put no trust in his servants; and his angels he charged with folly:

¹⁸他的僕役他還不信任，他的天使他也指責過錯，

¹⁹How much less in them that dwell in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, which are crushed before the moth?

¹⁹何況那些住在土屋裡，根基在塵土中，比蠹蟲還容易被壓碎的人呢？

²⁰They are destroyed from morning to evening: they perish for ever without any regarding it.

²⁰在早晚之間就被毀滅，永歸沉淪，無人懷念。

²¹Doth not their excellency which is in them go away? they die, even without wisdom.

²¹他們帳棚的繩索不是從他們中間抽出來嗎？他們死去，不是無智慧而死嗎？’”
