¹Furthermore Elihu answered and said,

¹Elihu jatkoi puhettaan ja sanoi:

²Hear my words, O ye wise men; and give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

²-- Kuunnelkaa minun puhettani, te viisaat miehet, te, joilla on paljon tietoa, tarkatkaa, mitä minä sanon!

³For the ear trieth words, as the mouth tasteth meat.

³Kieli maistelee ruoan, korva koettelee sanat.

⁴Let us choose to us judgment: let us know among ourselves what is good.

⁴Tutkikaamme siis yhdessä, mikä on oikein, selvittäkäämme, mikä on hyvää.

⁵For Job hath said, I am righteous: and God hath taken away my judgment.

⁵Job sanoo: "Minä olen syytön, Jumala on kohdellut minua väärin!

⁶Should I lie against my right? my wound is incurable without transgression.

⁶Vaikka puhun totta, valehtelijana minua pidetään, vaikka en ole tehnyt syntiä, nuolet lävistävät minut."

⁷What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water?

⁷Millainen mies onkaan tämä Job! Niin kuin vesi virtaa, niin virtaa pilkkapuhe hänen huuliltaan.

⁸Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men.

⁸Pahantekijöiden seuraan hän lyöttäytyy, jumalattomien joukossa hän kulkee.

⁹For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God.

⁹Näin hän sanoo: "Ei kannata ihmisen olla Jumalalle mieliksi!"

¹⁰Therefore hearken unto me ye men of understanding: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

¹⁰Kuulkaa siis minua, te viisaat miehet! Mahdotonta ajatella, että Jumala tekisi väärin, että Kaikkivaltias toimisi vastoin oikeutta.

¹¹For the work of a man shall he render unto him, and cause every man to find according to his ways.

¹¹Hän rankaisee ihmistä tekojen mukaan. Miten mies vaeltaa, sen mukaan hänet palkitaan.

¹²Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment.

¹²Totisesti, Jumala ei tee vääryyttä, Kaikkivaltias ei vääristä oikeutta.

¹³Who hath given him a charge over the earth? or who hath disposed the whole world?

¹³Kuka on antanut maan hänen hallintaansa? Kuka on uskonut hänen hoitoonsa maanpiirin?

¹⁴If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;

¹⁴Jos hän ajattelisi vain itseään ja vetäisi pois henkensä, elämän henkäyksen,

¹⁵All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.

¹⁵koko luomakunta menehtyisi hetkessä ja ihminen palaisi takaisin maan tomuun.

¹⁶If now thou hast understanding, hear this: hearken to the voice of my words.

¹⁶Jos sinulla on järkeä, kuuntele nyt, mitä minä sanon.

¹⁷Shall even he that hateth right govern? and wilt thou condemn him that is most just?

¹⁷Voisiko joku, joka halveksii oikeutta, pidellä kaikkeuden suitsia? Sanotko sinä vanhurskasta Jumalaa väärintekijäksi,

¹⁸Is it fit to say to a king, Thou art wicked? and to princes, Ye are ungodly?

¹⁸häntä, joka sanoo kuninkaalle: "Sinä kelvoton!" ja mahtimiehelle: "Sinä roisto!"

¹⁹How much less to him that accepteth not the persons of princes, nor regardeth the rich more than the poor? for they all are the work of his hands.

¹⁹Ei hän pidä ruhtinaiden puolta, hän ei aseta ylhäistä köyhän edelle -- kaikkihan he ovat hänen kättensä tekoa.

²⁰In a moment shall they die, and the people shall be troubled at midnight, and pass away: and the mighty shall be taken away without hand.

²⁰He kuolevat äkkiä, keskellä yötä, kansat nousevat, kansat katoavat, valtiaat pyyhkäistään sivuun ihmiskäden koskematta.

²¹For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings.

²¹Sillä hänen silmänsä tarkkaavat ihmisten teitä, hän näkee kaikki heidän askelensa.

²²There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

²²Ei ole niin mustaa pimeyttä, että pahantekijä voisi siihen kätkeytyä.

²³For he will not lay upon man more than right; that he should enter into judgment with God.

²³Ei Jumala ilmoita hetkeä, jolloin ihminen kutsutaan tuomiolle.

²⁴He shall break in pieces mighty men without number, and set others in their stead.

²⁴Ei hän kuulustele ketään. Hän murskaa mahtavat ja asettaa heidän paikalleen toiset miehet.

²⁵Therefore he knoweth their works, and he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

²⁵Hän seuraa tarkoin heidän toimiaan, yön tullen hän syöksee heidät alas ja murskaa heidät.

²⁶He striketh them as wicked men in the open sight of others;

²⁶Hän rankaisee heitä heidän rikoksistaan julkisella paikalla, kaikkien nähden,

²⁷Because they turned back from him, and would not consider any of his ways:

²⁷koska he ovat poikenneet hänen teiltään eivätkä enää kulje hänen askelissaan.

²⁸So that they cause the cry of the poor to come unto him, and he heareth the cry of the afflicted.

²⁸He eivät kuule kurjien itkua -- Jumala sen kuulee.

²⁹When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only:

²⁹Mutta jos Jumala pysyy vaiti, kuka voi häntä syyttää? Jos hän peittää kasvonsa, kuka hänet näkee? Mitä voivat kansat tai ihmiset,

³⁰That the hypocrite reign not, lest the people be ensnared.

³⁰kun jumalaton hallitsee maata ja saattaa kansan lankeamaan?

³¹Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:

³¹Pitäisikö Jumalan sanoa: "Minä olen erehtynyt. Nyt en enää tee väärin.

³²That which I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

³²Opeta sinä minulle se mitä minä en ymmärrä! Ehkä olen tehnyt vääryyttä, mutta enää en tee."

³³Should it be according to thy mind? he will recompense it, whether thou refuse, or whether thou choose; and not I: therefore speak what thou knowest.

³³Sinunko mielesi mukaan hänen pitäisi palkita ja rangaista? Sinähän tässä olet kapinoinut. Sinun on nyt ratkaistava asia, ei minun. Jos jotakin tiedät, sano se!

³⁴Let men of understanding tell me, and let a wise man hearken unto me.

³⁴Minulle sanovat viisaat miehet, nuo, jotka minua kuuntelevat:

³⁵Job hath spoken without knowledge, and his words were without wisdom.

³⁵"Job puhuu ajattelemattomasti, hänen sanoistaan puuttuu ymmärrys."

³⁶My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men.

³⁶Jatkukoot siis hänen koettelemuksensa, kun hän yhä vain puhuu pilkkaajan tavoin.

³⁷For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God.

³⁷Hän on tehnyt syntiä, hän kapinoi. Hän ojentaa meille kätensä mutta jatkaa puhettaan Jumalaa vastaan.
