¹Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

¹Werdet nun Gottes Nachahmer als geliebte Kinder

²And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

²und wandelt in der Liebe, gleichwie Christus uns geliebt und sich selbst für uns gegeben hat als Gabe und Opfer für Gott, zu einem angenehmen Geruch.

³But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;

³Unzucht aber und alle Unreinigkeit oder Habsucht werde nicht einmal bei euch genannt, wie es Heiligen geziemt;

⁴Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

⁴auch nicht Schändlichkeit und albernes Geschwätz, noch zweideutige Redensarten, was sich nicht geziemt, sondern vielmehr Danksagung.

⁵For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

⁵Denn das sollt ihr wissen, daß kein Unzüchtiger oder Unreiner oder Habsüchtiger (der ein Götzendiener ist), Erbteil hat im Reiche Christi und Gottes.

⁶Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

⁶Niemand verführe euch mit leeren Worten; denn um dieser Dinge willen kommt der Zorn Gottes über die Kinder des Unglaubens.

⁷Be not ye therefore partakers with them.

⁷So werdet nun nicht ihre Mitgenossen!

⁸For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:

⁸Denn ihr waret einst Finsternis; nun aber seid ihr Licht in dem Herrn. Wandelt als Kinder des Lichts!

⁹(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)

⁹Die Frucht des Lichtes besteht nämlich in aller Gütigkeit und Gerechtigkeit und Wahrheit.

¹⁰Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

¹⁰Prüfet also, was dem Herrn wohlgefällig sei!

¹¹And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

¹¹Und habt keine Gemeinschaft mit den unfruchtbaren Werken der Finsternis, decket sie vielmehr auf;

¹²For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.

¹²denn was heimlich von ihnen geschieht, ist schändlich auch nur zu sagen.

¹³But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.

¹³Das alles aber wird offenbar, wenn es vom Lichte aufgedeckt wird; denn alles, was offenbar wird, das ist Licht.

¹⁴Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.

¹⁴Darum spricht er: Wache auf, der du schläfst, und stehe auf von den Toten, so wird dir Christus leuchten!

¹⁵See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

¹⁵Sehet nun zu, wie ihr vorsichtig wandelt, nicht als Unweise, sondern als Weise;

¹⁶Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

¹⁶und kaufet die Zeit aus, denn die Tage sind böse.

¹⁷Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

¹⁷Darum seid nicht unverständig, sondern suchet zu verstehen, was des Herrn Wille sei!

¹⁸And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

¹⁸Und berauschet euch nicht mit Wein, was eine Liederlichkeit ist, sondern werdet voll Geistes,

¹⁹Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

¹⁹und redet miteinander in Psalmen und Lobgesängen und geistlichen Liedern und singet und spielet dem Herrn in eurem Herzen

²⁰Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

²⁰und saget allezeit Gott, dem Vater, Dank für alles, in dem Namen unsres Herrn Jesus Christus,

²¹Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

²¹und seid dabei einander untertan in der Furcht Christi.

²²Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

²²Die Frauen seien ihren eigenen Männern untertan, als dem Herrn;

²³For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

²³denn der Mann ist des Weibes Haupt, wie auch Christus das Haupt der Gemeinde ist; er ist des Leibes Retter.

²⁴Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

²⁴Wie nun die Gemeinde Christus untertan ist, so seien es auch die Frauen ihren eigenen Männern in allem.

²⁵Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

²⁵Ihr Männer, liebet eure Frauen, gleichwie auch Christus die Gemeinde geliebt und sich selbst für sie hingegeben hat,

²⁶That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

²⁶auf daß er sie heilige, nachdem er sie gereinigt durch das Wasserbad im Wort;

²⁷That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

²⁷damit er sich selbst die Gemeinde herrlich darstelle, so daß sie weder Flecken noch Runzel noch etwas ähnliches habe, sondern heilig sei und tadellos.

²⁸So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

²⁸Ebenso sind die Männer schuldig, ihre eigenen Frauen zu lieben wie ihre eigenen Leiber; wer seine Frau liebt, der liebt sich selbst.

²⁹For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

²⁹Denn niemand hat je sein eigenes Fleisch gehaßt, sondern er nährt und pflegt es, gleichwie der Herr die Gemeinde.

³⁰For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

³⁰Denn wir sind Glieder seines Leibes, von seinem Fleisch und von seinem Gebein.

³¹For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.

³¹«Um deswillen wird ein Mensch Vater und Mutter verlassen und seinem Weibe anhangen, und werden die zwei ein Fleisch sein.»

³²This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.

³²Dieses Geheimnis ist groß, ich aber deute es auf Christus und auf die Gemeinde.

³³Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

³³Doch auch ihr, einer wie der andere, liebe seine Frau wie sich selbst; die Frau aber fürchte den Mann!
