¹Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

¹Ihr Kinder, seid gehorsam euren Eltern in dem Herrn; denn das ist billig.

²Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise;

²«Ehre deinen Vater und deine Mutter», das ist das erste Gebot mit Verheißung:

³That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

³«auf daß es dir wohl gehe und du lange lebest auf Erden.»

⁴And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

⁴Und ihr Väter, reizet eure Kinder nicht zum Zorn, sondern ziehet sie auf in der Zucht und Ermahnung des Herrn.

⁵Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;

⁵Ihr Knechte, gehorchet euren leiblichen Herren mit Furcht und Zittern, in Einfalt eures Herzens, wie dem Herrn Christus;

⁶Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

⁶nicht mit Augendienerei als Menschengefällige, sondern als Knechte Christi, die den Willen Gottes von Herzen tun;

⁷With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men:

⁷dienet mit gutem Willen, als dem Herrn und nicht den Menschen,

⁸Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free.

⁸da ihr wisset, daß ein jeder für das Gute, das er tut, vom Herrn belohnt wird er sei ein Knecht oder ein Freier.

⁹And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

⁹Und ihr Herren, erzeiget ihnen dasselbe und lasset das Drohen, da ihr wisset, daß auch ihr einen Herrn im Himmel habt und daß bei ihm kein Ansehen der Person gilt.

¹⁰Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

¹⁰Im übrigen, meine Brüder, erstarket im Herrn und in der Macht seiner Stärke.

¹¹Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

¹¹Ziehet die ganze Waffenrüstung Gottes an, damit ihr den Kunstgriffen des Teufels gegenüber standzuhalten vermöget;

¹²For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

¹²denn unser Kampf richtet sich nicht wider Fleisch und Blut, sondern wider die Herrschaften, wider die Gewalten, wider die Weltbeherrscher dieser Finsternis, wider die geistlichen Mächte der Bosheit in den himmlischen Regionen .

¹³Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

¹³Deshalb ergreifet die ganze Waffenrüstung Gottes, damit ihr am bösen Tage zu widerstehen vermöget und, nachdem ihr alles wohl ausgerichtet habt, das Feld behalten könnet.

¹⁴Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;

¹⁴So stehet nun, eure Lenden umgürtet mit Wahrheit, und angetan mit dem Panzer der Gerechtigkeit,

¹⁵And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;

¹⁵und die Füße gestiefelt mit Bereitwilligkeit, die frohe Botschaft des Friedens zu verkündigen.

¹⁶Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

¹⁶Bei dem allen aber ergreifet den Schild des Glaubens, mit welchem ihr alle feurigen Pfeile des Bösewichts auslöschen könnet.

¹⁷And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

¹⁷Und nehmet den Helm des Heils und das Schwert des Geistes, nämlich das Wort Gottes.

¹⁸Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

¹⁸Bei allem Gebet und Flehen aber betet jederzeit im Geist, und wachet zu diesem Zwecke in allem Anhalten und Flehen für alle Heiligen,

¹⁹And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel,

¹⁹auch für mich, damit mir ein Wort gegeben werde, so oft ich meinen Mund auftue, freimütig das Geheimnis des Evangeliums kundzutun,

²⁰For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.

²⁰für welches ich ein Botschafter bin in Ketten, auf daß ich darin freimütig rede, wie ich reden soll.

²¹But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things:

²¹Damit aber auch ihr wisset, wie es mir geht und was ich tue, wird euch Tychikus alles mitteilen, der geliebte Bruder und treue Diener im Herrn,

²²Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts.

²²den ich eben darum zu euch gesandt habe, daß ihr erfahret, wie es um uns stehe, und daß er eure Herzen tröste.

²³Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

²³Friede sei den Brüdern und Liebe mit Glauben von Gott, dem Vater und dem Herrn Jesus Christus.

²⁴Grace be with all them that love our Lord Jesus Christ in sincerity. Amen.

²⁴Die Gnade sei mit allen, die unsren Herrn Jesus Christus lieb haben, unwandelbar!
