¹Elihu also proceeded, and said,

¹Und Elihu fuhr fort und sprach:

²Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet to speak on God's behalf.

²Gedulde dich noch ein wenig, so will ich dich lehren, ich habe noch mehr zu reden für Gott.

³I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

³Ich will mein Wissen weither holen und meinem Schöpfer Gerechtigkeit widerfahren lassen!

⁴For truly my words shall not be false: he that is perfect in knowledge is with thee.

⁴Denn wahrlich, meine Reden sind keine Lügen, du hast es mit einem ganz Verständigen zu tun!

⁵Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.

⁵Siehe, Gott ist mächtig, doch verachtet er niemand; groß ist die Kraft seines Herzens.

⁶He preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor.

⁶Den Gottlosen läßt er nicht leben, aber den Elenden schafft er Recht.

⁷He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings are they on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted.

⁷Er wendet seine Augen nicht ab von den Gerechten und setzt sie auf ewig mit Königen auf den Thron, damit sie herrschen.

⁸And if they be bound in fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction;

⁸Sind sie aber in Fesseln gebunden, in Banden des Elends gefangen,

⁹Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.

⁹so hält er ihnen ihre Taten und ihre Übertretungen vor; denn sie haben sich überhoben;

¹⁰He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.

¹⁰er öffnet ihr Ohr der Bestrafung und befiehlt ihnen, sich von der Bosheit abzukehren.

¹¹If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

¹¹Wenn sie dann gehorchen und sich unterwerfen, so werden sie ihre Tage in Glück und ihre Jahre in Wohlfahrt beendigen.

¹²But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.

¹²Gehorchen sie aber nicht, so kommen sie um durchs Schwert und sterben dahin in ihrem Unverstand.

¹³But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not when he bindeth them.

¹³Denn die, welche ruchlosen Herzens sind, widersetzen sich; sie flehen nicht, wenn er sie gefesselt hat.

¹⁴They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean.

¹⁴Ihre Seele stirbt in der Jugend und ihr Leben unter den Hurern.

¹⁵He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression.

¹⁵Den Gedemütigten aber rettet er durch die Demütigung und öffnet durch die Trübsal sein Ohr.

¹⁶Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness.

¹⁶Und auch dich lockt er aus der Enge in die Weite, da keine Not mehr sein wird, und an einen reichbesetzten Tisch.

¹⁷But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee.

¹⁷Bist du aber vom Urteil des Gottlosen erfüllt, so werden Urteil und Gericht dich treffen.

¹⁸Because there is wrath, beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver thee.

¹⁸Der Zorn verleite dich ja nicht zur Lästerung, und die Menge des Lösegeldes besteche dich nicht.

¹⁹Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.

¹⁹Wird er deinen Reichtum schätzen? Er achtet nicht auf Gold, noch auf alle Anstrengungen der Kraft.

²⁰Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place.

²⁰Sehne dich nicht nach der Nacht, da Völker untergehen werden.

²¹Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.

²¹Hüte dich, wende dich nicht zum Bösen, denn dieses ziehst du dem Leiden vor.

²²Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?

²²Siehe, Gott ist erhaben in seiner Kraft, wo ist ein Lehrer wie er?

²³Who hath enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast wrought iniquity?

²³Wer will ihn zur Rede stellen über seinen Weg, und wer will zu ihm sagen: Du hast Unrecht getan?

²⁴Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold.

²⁴Gedenke daran, sein Tun zu erheben; die Menschen sollen es besingen.

²⁵Every man may see it; man may behold it afar off.

²⁵Alle Menschen sehen es ja, der Sterbliche schaut es von ferne.

²⁶Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.

²⁶Siehe, wie erhaben ist Gott! Wir aber verstehen ihn nicht; die Zahl seiner Jahre hat niemand erforscht.

²⁷For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:

²⁷Denn er zieht Wassertropfen herauf; sie träufeln als Regen aus seinem Dunst, den die Wolken rieseln lassen,

²⁸Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.

²⁸sie triefen auf viele Menschen herab.

²⁹Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?

²⁹Versteht man auch das Ausspannen der Wolken und das Krachen seines Gezelts?

³⁰Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea.

³⁰Siehe, er breitet sein Licht um sich her aus und bedeckt die Gründe des Meeres;

³¹For by them judgeth he the people; he giveth meat in abundance.

³¹denn damit richtet er die Völker und gibt Speise die Fülle.

³²With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt.

³²Seine Hände bedeckt er mit Licht und gebietet ihm, zu treffen.

³³The noise thereof sheweth concerning it, the cattle also concerning the vapour.

³³Sein Donnern kündigt ihn an, die Herde sein Heraufsteigen im Gewitter .
