¹Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

¹Hallelujah! Danket dem HERRN, denn er ist gütig, seine Gnade währt ewiglich!

²Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise?

²Wer kann die Machttaten des HERRN beschreiben und allen seinen Ruhm verkünden?

³Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.

³Wohl denen, die das Recht beachten, die Gerechtigkeit üben allezeit!

⁴Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation;

⁴Gedenke meiner, o HERR, aus Gnaden gegen dein Volk, suche mich heim mit deinem Heil,

⁵That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.

⁵daß ich einen Einblick bekomme in das Wohlergehen deiner Auserwählten, mich freue an der Freude deines Volkes und mich deines Erbteils rühme.

⁶We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.

⁶Wir haben gesündigt samt unsern Vätern, wir haben verkehrt gehandelt, wir haben gefrevelt.

⁷Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.

⁷Unsre Väter in Ägypten hatten nicht acht auf deine Wunder, sie gedachten nicht an die Größe deiner Güte und waren widerspenstig am Meer, am Schilfmeer.

⁸Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.

⁸Aber er half ihnen um seines Namens willen, um seine Stärke kundzutun.

⁹He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.

⁹Und er bedrohte das Schilfmeer, daß es vertrocknete, und ließ sie durch die Tiefen gehen wie auf einer Steppe.

¹⁰And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

¹⁰Und er rettete sie von der Hand des Hassers und erlöste sie aus der Hand des Feindes.

¹¹And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.

¹¹Und das Wasser bedeckte ihre Bedränger, nicht einer von ihnen blieb übrig.

¹²Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.

¹²Da glaubten sie seinen Worten und sangen sein Lob.

¹³They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel:

¹³Aber sie vergaßen seine Werke bald, sie warteten nicht auf seinen Rat,

¹⁴But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.

¹⁴sondern ließen sich gelüsten in der Wüste und versuchten Gott in der Einöde.

¹⁵And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.

¹⁵Und er gab ihnen, was sie forderten, sandte aber eine Seuche unter sie.

¹⁶They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the LORD.

¹⁶Und sie wurden eifersüchtig auf Mose im Lager, auf Aaron, den Heiligen des HERRN.

¹⁷The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan and covered the company of Abiram.

¹⁷Da tat sich die Erde auf und verschlang Datan und bedeckte die Rotte Abirams;

¹⁸And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.

¹⁸und Feuer verzehrte ihre Rotte, die Flamme versengte die Gottlosen.

¹⁹They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.

¹⁹Sie machten ein Kalb am Horeb und warfen sich nieder vor dem gegossenen Bild.

²⁰Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.

²⁰Sie vertauschten ihre Herrlichkeit gegen das Abbild eines Stiers, der Gras frißt.

²¹They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;

²¹Sie vergaßen Gottes, ihres Retters, der große Dinge in Ägypten getan,

²²Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.

²²Wunder im Lande Hams, Furchtbares am Schilfmeer.

²³Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.

²³Und er gedachte sie zu vertilgen, wenn nicht Mose, sein Auserwählter, in den Riß getreten wäre vor seinem Angesicht, um seinen Grimm abzuwenden, daß er sie nicht vertilgte.

²⁴Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:

²⁴Sie verachteten das liebliche Land, sie glaubten seinem Worte nicht.

²⁵But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD.

²⁵Und sie murrten in ihren Zelten, sie gehorchten nicht der Stimme des HERRN.

²⁶Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:

²⁶Da erhob er seine Hand und schwur , sie niederzustrecken in der Wüste

²⁷To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.

²⁷und ihren Samen unter die Nationen zu werfen und sie zu zerstreuen in die Länder.

²⁸They joined themselves also unto Baalpeor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.

²⁸Und sie hängten sich an den Baal-Peor und aßen Opfer der toten Götzen ,

²⁹Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.

²⁹und sie erzürnten ihn mit ihrem Tun; da brach die Plage unter ihnen aus.

³⁰Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.

³⁰Aber Pinehas trat auf und übte Gericht, so daß die Plage aufgehalten ward.

³¹And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.

³¹Das wurde ihm zur Gerechtigkeit gerechnet auf alle Geschlechter, in Ewigkeit.

³²They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:

³²Und sie erzürnten ihn am Haderwasser, und es erging Mose übel um ihretwillen.

³³Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips.

³³Denn sie betrübten seinen Geist, und er redete unbedacht mit seinen Lippen.

³⁴They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the LORD commanded them:

³⁴Sie vertilgten die Völker nicht, von denen der HERR ihnen gesagt hatte;

³⁵But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.

³⁵sondern ließen sich ein mit den Heiden und lernten ihre Weise.

³⁶And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.

³⁶Und sie dienten ihren Götzen, und diese wurden ihnen zum Fallstrick.

³⁷Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,

³⁷Und sie opferten ihre Söhne und ihre Töchter den bösen Geistern.

³⁸And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.

³⁸Und sie vergossen unschuldiges Blut, das Blut ihrer Söhne und ihrer Töchter, welche sie den Götzen Kanaans opferten, und so wurde das Land durch Blutschulden entweiht.

³⁹Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.

³⁹Und sie befleckten sich mit ihren Werken und hurten mit ihrem Tun.

⁴⁰Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.

⁴⁰Da entbrannte der Zorn des HERRN wider sein Volk, und er faßte einen Abscheu gegen sein Erbe.

⁴¹And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.

⁴¹Und er gab sie in die Hand der Nationen, daß ihre Hasser über sie herrschten.

⁴²Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.

⁴²Und ihre Feinde bedrückten sie, und sie wurden gedemütigt unter ihre Hand.

⁴³Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity.

⁴³Er errettete sie oftmals; aber sie widerstrebten ihm mit ihren Anschlägen und kamen herunter durch eigene Schuld.

⁴⁴Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:

⁴⁴Aber er sah ihre Not an, als er ihr Schreien hörte,

⁴⁵And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.

⁴⁵und gedachte seines Bundes mit ihnen und empfand Mitleid nach seiner großen Huld

⁴⁶He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.

⁴⁶und ließ sie Erbarmen finden bei denen, die sie gefangen hielten.

⁴⁷Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.

⁴⁷Hilf uns, HERR, unser Gott, sammle uns aus den Heiden, daß wir deinem heiligen Namen danken und uns glücklich preisen, zu deinem Ruhm!

⁴⁸Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting to everlasting: and let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye the LORD.

⁴⁸Gelobt sei der HERR, der Gott Israels, von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit, und alles Volk soll sagen: Amen! Hallelujah!
