¹Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.

¹このようなわけだから、人はわたしたちを、キリストに仕える者、神の奥義を管理している者と見るがよい。

²Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.

²この場合、管理者に要求されているのは、忠実であることである。

³But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.

³わたしはあなたがたにさばかれたり、人間の裁判にかけられたりしても、なんら意に介しない。いや、わたしは自分をさばくこともしない。

⁴For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.

⁴わたしは自ら省みて、なんらやましいことはないが、それで義とされているわけではない。わたしをさばくかたは、主である。

⁵Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.

⁵だから、主がこられるまでは、何事についても、先走りをしてさばいてはいけない。主は暗い中に隠れていることを明るみに出し、心の中で企てられていることを、あらわにされるであろう。その時には、神からそれぞれほまれを受けるであろう。

⁶And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.

⁶兄弟たちよ。これらのことをわたし自身とアポロとに当てはめて言って聞かせたが、それはあなたがたが、わたしたちを例にとって、「しるされている定めを越えない」ことを学び、ひとりの人をあがめ、ほかの人を見さげて高ぶることのないためである。

⁷For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?

⁷いったい、あなたを偉くしているのは、だれなのか。あなたの持っているもので、もらっていないものがあるか。もしもらっているなら、なぜもらっていないもののように誇るのか。

⁸Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.

⁸あなたがたは、すでに満腹しているのだ。すでに富み栄えているのだ。わたしたちを差しおいて、王になっているのだ。ああ、王になっていてくれたらと思う。そうであったなら、わたしたちも、あなたがたと共に王になれたであろう。

⁹For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.

⁹わたしはこう考える。神はわたしたち使徒を死刑囚のように、最後に出場する者として引き出し、こうしてわたしたちは、全世界に、天使にも人々にも見せ物にされたのだ。

¹⁰We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.

¹⁰わたしたちはキリストのゆえに愚かな者となり、あなたがたはキリストにあって賢い者となっている。わたしたちは弱いが、あなたがたは強い。あなたがたは尊ばれ、わたしたちは卑しめられている。

¹¹Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;

¹¹今の今まで、わたしたちは飢え、かわき、裸にされ、打たれ、宿なしであり、

¹²And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:

¹³Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.

¹³ののしられては優しい言葉をかけている。わたしたちは今に至るまで、この世のちりのように、人間のくずのようにされている。

¹⁴I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you.

¹⁴わたしがこのようなことを書くのは、あなたがたをはずかしめるためではなく、むしろ、わたしの愛児としてさとすためである。

¹⁵For though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.

¹⁵たといあなたがたに、キリストにある養育掛が一万人あったとしても、父が多くあるのではない。キリスト・イエスにあって、福音によりあなたがたを生んだのは、わたしなのである。

¹⁶Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.

¹⁶そこで、あなたがたに勧める。わたしにならう者となりなさい。

¹⁷For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.

¹⁷このことのために、わたしは主にあって愛する忠実なわたしの子テモテを、あなたがたの所につかわした。彼は、キリスト・イエスにおけるわたしの生活のしかたを、わたしが至る所の教会で教えているとおりに、あなたがたに思い起させてくれるであろう。

¹⁸Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you.

¹⁸しかしある人々は、わたしがあなたがたの所に来ることはあるまいとみて、高ぶっているということである。

¹⁹But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.

¹⁹しかし主のみこころであれば、わたしはすぐにでもあなたがたの所に行って、高ぶっている者たちの言葉ではなく、その力を見せてもらおう。

²⁰For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.

²⁰神の国は言葉ではなく、力である。あなたがたは、どちらを望むのか。わたしがむちをもって、あなたがたの所に行くことか、それとも、愛と柔和な心とをもって行くことであるか。

²¹What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of meekness?
