¹And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.

¹さて、イエスはエリコにはいって、その町をお通りになった。

²And, behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich.

²ところが、そこにザアカイという名の人がいた。この人は取税人のかしらで、金持であった。

³And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature.

³彼は、イエスがどんな人か見たいと思っていたが、背が低かったので、群衆にさえぎられて見ることができなかった。

⁴And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.

⁴それでイエスを見るために、前の方に走って行って、いちじく桑の木に登った。そこを通られるところだったからである。

⁵And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

⁵イエスは、その場所にこられたとき、上を見あげて言われた、「ザアカイよ、急いで下りてきなさい。きょう、あなたの家に泊まることにしているから」。

⁶And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully.

⁶そこでザアカイは急いでおりてきて、よろこんでイエスを迎え入れた。

⁷And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner.

⁷人々はみな、これを見てつぶやき、「彼は罪人の家にはいって客となった」と言った。

⁸And Zacchaeus stood, and said unto the Lord: Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold.

⁸ザアカイは立って主に言った、「主よ、わたしは誓って自分の財産の半分を貧民に施します。また、もしだれかから不正な取立てをしていましたら、それを四倍にして返します」。

⁹And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham.

⁹イエスは彼に言われた、「きょう、救がこの家にきた。この人もアブラハムの子なのだから。

¹⁰For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

¹⁰人の子がきたのは、失われたものを尋ね出して救うためである」。

¹¹And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.

¹¹人々がこれらの言葉を聞いているときに、イエスはなお一つの譬をお話しになった。それはエルサレムに近づいてこられたし、また人々が神の国はたちまち現れると思っていたためである。

¹²He said therefore, A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.

¹²それで言われた、「ある身分の高い人が、王位を受けて帰ってくるために遠い所へ旅立つことになった。

¹³And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

¹³そこで十人の僕を呼び十ミナを渡して言った、『わたしが帰って来るまで、これで商売をしなさい』。

¹⁴But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.

¹⁴ところが、本国の住民は彼を憎んでいたので、あとから使者をおくって、『この人が王になるのをわれわれは望んでいない』と言わせた。

¹⁵And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.

¹⁵さて、彼が王位を受けて帰ってきたとき、だれがどんなもうけをしたかを知ろうとして、金を渡しておいた僕たちを呼んでこさせた。

¹⁶Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds.

¹⁶最初の者が進み出て言った、『ご主人様、あなたの一ミナで十ミナをもうけました』。

¹⁷And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.

¹⁷主人は言った、『よい僕よ、うまくやった。あなたは小さい事に忠実であったから、十の町を支配させる』。

¹⁸And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds.

¹⁸次の者がきて言った、『ご主人様、あなたの一ミナで五ミナをつくりました』。

¹⁹And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.

¹⁹そこでこの者にも、『では、あなたは五つの町のかしらになれ』と言った。

²⁰And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin:

²⁰それから、もうひとりの者がきて言った、『ご主人様、さあ、ここにあなたの一ミナがあります。わたしはそれをふくさに包んで、しまっておきました。

²¹For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.

²¹あなたはきびしい方で、おあずけにならなかったものを取りたて、おまきにならなかったものを刈る人なので、おそろしかったのです』。

²²And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow:

²²彼に言った、『悪い僕よ、わたしはあなたの言ったその言葉であなたをさばこう。わたしがきびしくて、あずけなかったものを取りたて、まかなかったものを刈る人間だと、知っているのか。

²³Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury?

²³では、なぜわたしの金を銀行に入れなかったのか。そうすれば、わたしが帰ってきたとき、その金を利子と一緒に引き出したであろうに』。

²⁴And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.

²⁴そして、そばに立っていた人々に、『その一ミナを彼から取り上げて、十ミナを持っている者に与えなさい』と言った。

²⁵(And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.)

²⁵彼らは言った、『ご主人様、あの人は既に十ミナを持っています』。

²⁶For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath shall be given; and from him that hath not, even that he hath shall be taken away from him.

²⁶『あなたがたに言うが、おおよそ持っている人には、なお与えられ、持っていない人からは、持っているものまでも取り上げられるであろう。

²⁷But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me.

²⁷しかしわたしが王になることを好まなかったあの敵どもを、ここにひっぱってきて、わたしの前で打ち殺せ』」。

²⁸And when he had thus spoken, he went before, ascending up to Jerusalem.

²⁸イエスはこれらのことを言ったのち、先頭に立ち、エルサレムへ上って行かれた。

²⁹And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

²⁹そしてオリブという山に沿ったベテパゲとベタニヤに近づかれたとき、ふたりの弟子をつかわして言われた、

³⁰Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.

³⁰「向こうの村へ行きなさい。そこにはいったら、まだだれも乗ったことのないろばの子がつないであるのを見るであろう。それを解いて、引いてきなさい。

³¹And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.

³¹もしだれかが『なぜ解くのか』と問うたら、『主がお入り用なのです』と、そう言いなさい」。

³²And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.

³²そこで、つかわされた者たちが行って見ると、果して、言われたとおりであった。

³³And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?

³³彼らが、そのろばの子を解いていると、その持ち主たちが、「なぜろばの子を解くのか」と言ったので、

³⁴And they said, The Lord hath need of him.

³⁴「主がお入り用なのです」と答えた。

³⁵And they brought him to Jesus: and they cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus thereon.

³⁵そしてそれをイエスのところに引いてきて、その子ろばの上に自分たちの上着をかけてイエスをお乗せした。

³⁶And as he went, they spread their clothes in the way.

³⁶そして進んで行かれると、人々は自分たちの上着を道に敷いた。

³⁷And when he was come nigh, even now at the descent of the mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen;

³⁷いよいよオリブ山の下り道あたりに近づかれると、大ぜいの弟子たちはみな喜んで、彼らが見たすべての力あるみわざについて、声高らかに神をさんびして言いはじめた、

³⁸Saying, Blessed be the King that cometh in the name of the Lord: peace in heaven, and glory in the highest.

³⁸「主の御名によってきたる王に、祝福あれ。天には平和、いと高きところには栄光あれ」。

³⁹And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples.

³⁹ところが、群衆の中にいたあるパリサイ人たちがイエスに言った、「先生、あなたの弟子たちをおしかり下さい」。

⁴⁰And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out.

⁴⁰答えて言われた、「あなたがたに言うが、もしこの人たちが黙れば、石が叫ぶであろう」。

⁴¹And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it,

⁴¹いよいよ都の近くにきて、それが見えたとき、そのために泣いて言われた、

⁴²Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes.

⁴²「もしおまえも、この日に、平和をもたらす道を知ってさえいたら……しかし、それは今おまえの目に隠されている。

⁴³For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,

⁴³いつかは、敵が周囲に塁を築き、おまえを取りかこんで、四方から押し迫り、

⁴⁴And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

⁴⁴おまえとその内にいる子らとを地に打ち倒し、城内の一つの石も他の石の上に残して置かない日が来るであろう。それは、おまえが神のおとずれの時を知らないでいたからである」。

⁴⁵And he went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold therein, and them that bought;

⁴⁵それから宮にはいり、商売人たちを追い出しはじめて、

⁴⁶Saying unto them, It is written, My house is the house of prayer: but ye have made it a den of thieves.

⁴⁶彼らに言われた、「『わが家は祈の家であるべきだ』と書いてあるのに、あなたがたはそれを盗賊の巣にしてしまった」。

⁴⁷And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,

⁴⁷イエスは毎日、宮で教えておられた。祭司長、律法学者また民衆の重立った者たちはイエスを殺そうと思っていたが、民衆がみな熱心にイエスに耳を傾けていたので、手のくだしようがなかった。

⁴⁸And could not find what they might do: for all the people were very attentive to hear him.
