¹And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,

¹イエスはこれらの言葉をすべて語り終えてから、弟子たちに言われた。

²Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

²「あなたがたが知っているとおり、ふつかの後には過越の祭になるが、人の子は十字架につけられるために引き渡される」。

³Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

³そのとき、祭司長たちや民の長老たちが、カヤパという大祭司の中庭に集まり、

⁴And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.

⁴策略をもってイエスを捕えて殺そうと相談した。

⁵But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.

⁵しかし彼らは言った、「祭の間はいけない。民衆の中に騒ぎが起るかも知れない」。

⁶Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

⁶さて、イエスがベタニヤで、らい病人シモンの家におられたとき、

⁷There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.

⁷ひとりの女が、高価な香油が入れてある石膏のつぼを持ってきて、イエスに近寄り、食事の席についておられたイエスの頭に香油を注ぎかけた。

⁸But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?

⁸すると、弟子たちはこれを見て憤って言った、「なんのためにこんなむだ使をするのか。

⁹For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

⁹それを高く売って、貧しい人たちに施すことができたのに」。

¹⁰When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.

¹⁰イエスはそれを聞いて彼らに言われた、「なぜ、女を困らせるのか。わたしによい事をしてくれたのだ。

¹¹For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

¹¹貧しい人たちはいつもあなたがたと一緒にいるが、わたしはいつも一緒にいるわけではない。

¹²For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.

¹²この女がわたしのからだにこの香油を注いだのは、わたしの葬りの用意をするためである。

¹³Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

¹³よく聞きなさい。全世界のどこででも、この福音が宣べ伝えられる所では、この女のした事も記念として語られるであろう」。

¹⁴Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

¹⁴時に、十二弟子のひとりイスカリオテのユダという者が、祭司長たちのところに行って

¹⁵And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

¹⁵言った、「彼をあなたがたに引き渡せば、いくらくださいますか」。すると、彼らは銀貨三十枚を彼に支払った。

¹⁶And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

¹⁶その時から、ユダはイエスを引きわたそうと、機会をねらっていた。

¹⁷Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?

¹⁷さて、除酵祭の第一日に、弟子たちはイエスのもとにきて言った、「過越の食事をなさるために、わたしたちはどこに用意をしたらよいでしょうか」。

¹⁸And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

¹⁸イエスは言われた、「市内にはいり、かねて話してある人の所に行って言いなさい、『先生が、わたしの時が近づいた、あなたの家で弟子たちと一緒に過越を守ろうと、言っておられます』」。

¹⁹And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.

¹⁹弟子たちはイエスが命じられたとおりにして、過越の用意をした。

²⁰Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.

²⁰夕方になって、イエスは十二弟子と一緒に食事の席につかれた。

²¹And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

²¹そして、一同が食事をしているとき言われた、「特にあなたがたに言っておくが、あなたがたのうちのひとりが、わたしを裏切ろうとしている」。

²²And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

²²弟子たちは非常に心配して、つぎつぎに「主よ、まさか、わたしではないでしょう」と言い出した。

²³And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

²³イエスは答えて言われた、「わたしと一緒に同じ鉢に手を入れている者が、わたしを裏切ろうとしている。

²⁴The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.

²⁴たしかに人の子は、自分について書いてあるとおりに去って行く。しかし、人の子を裏切るその人は、わざわいである。その人は生れなかった方が、彼のためによかったであろう」。

²⁵Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

²⁵イエスを裏切ったユダが答えて言った、「先生、まさか、わたしではないでしょう」。イエスは言われた、「いや、あなただ」。

²⁶And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

²⁶一同が食事をしているとき、イエスはパンを取り、祝福してこれをさき、弟子たちに与えて言われた、「取って食べよ、これはわたしのからだである」。

²⁷And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

²⁷また杯を取り、感謝して彼らに与えて言われた、「みな、この杯から飲め。

²⁸For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

²⁸これは、罪のゆるしを得させるようにと、多くの人のために流すわたしの契約の血である。

²⁹But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.

²⁹あなたがたに言っておく。わたしの父の国であなたがたと共に、新しく飲むその日までは、わたしは今後決して、ぶどうの実から造ったものを飲むことをしない」。

³⁰And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

³⁰彼らは、さんびを歌った後、オリブ山へ出かけて行った。

³¹Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

³¹そのとき、イエスは弟子たちに言われた、「今夜、あなたがたは皆わたしにつまずくであろう。『わたしは羊飼を打つ。そして、羊の群れは散らされるであろう』と、書いてあるからである。

³²But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.

³²しかしわたしは、よみがえってから、あなたがたより先にガリラヤへ行くであろう」。

³³Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.

³³するとペテロはイエスに答えて言った、「たとい、みんなの者があなたにつまずいても、わたしは決してつまずきません」。

³⁴Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

³⁴イエスは言われた、「よくあなたに言っておく。今夜、鶏が鳴く前に、あなたは三度わたしを知らないと言うだろう」。

³⁵Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

³⁵ペテロは言った、「たといあなたと一緒に死なねばならなくなっても、あなたを知らないなどとは、決して申しません」。弟子たちもみな同じように言った。

³⁶Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

³⁶それから、イエスは彼らと一緒に、ゲツセマネという所へ行かれた。そして弟子たちに言われた、「わたしが向こうへ行って祈っている間、ここにすわっていなさい」。

³⁷And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

³⁷そしてペテロとゼベダイの子ふたりとを連れて行かれたが、悲しみを催しまた悩みはじめられた。

³⁸Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

³⁸そのとき、彼らに言われた、「わたしは悲しみのあまり死ぬほどである。ここに待っていて、わたしと一緒に目をさましていなさい」。

³⁹And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

³⁹そして少し進んで行き、うつぶしになり、祈って言われた、「わが父よ、もしできることでしたらどうか、この杯をわたしから過ぎ去らせてください。しかし、わたしの思いのままにではなく、みこころのままになさって下さい」。

⁴⁰And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

⁴⁰それから、弟子たちの所にきてごらんになると、彼らが眠っていたので、ペテロに言われた、「あなたがたはそんなに、ひと時もわたしと一緒に目をさましていることが、できなかったのか。

⁴¹Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

⁴¹誘惑に陥らないように、目をさまして祈っていなさい。心は熱しているが、肉体が弱いのである」。

⁴²He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

⁴²また二度目に行って、祈って言われた、「わが父よ、この杯を飲むほかに道がないのでしたら、どうか、みこころが行われますように」。

⁴³And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

⁴³またきてごらんになると、彼らはまた眠っていた。その目が重くなっていたのである。

⁴⁴And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

⁴⁴それで彼らをそのままにして、また行って、三度目に同じ言葉で祈られた。

⁴⁵Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

⁴⁵それから弟子たちの所に帰ってきて、言われた、「まだ眠っているのか、休んでいるのか。見よ、時が迫った。人の子は罪人らの手に渡されるのだ。

⁴⁶Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.

⁴⁶立て、さあ行こう。見よ、わたしを裏切る者が近づいてきた」。

⁴⁷And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

⁴⁷そして、イエスがまだ話しておられるうちに、そこに、十二弟子のひとりのユダがきた。また祭司長、民の長老たちから送られた大ぜいの群衆も、剣と棒とを持って彼についてきた。

⁴⁸Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.

⁴⁸イエスを裏切った者が、あらかじめ彼らに、「わたしの接吻する者が、その人だ。その人をつかまえろ」と合図をしておいた。

⁴⁹And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.

⁴⁹彼はすぐイエスに近寄り、「先生、いかがですか」と言って、イエスに接吻した。

⁵⁰And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus and took him.

⁵⁰しかし、イエスは彼に言われた、「友よ、なんのためにきたのか」。このとき、人々が進み寄って、イエスに手をかけてつかまえた。

⁵¹And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.

⁵¹すると、イエスと一緒にいた者のひとりが、手を伸ばして剣を抜き、そして大祭司の僕に切りかかって、その片耳を切り落した。

⁵²Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

⁵²そこで、イエスは彼に言われた、「あなたの剣をもとの所におさめなさい。剣をとる者はみな、剣で滅びる。

⁵³Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

⁵³それとも、わたしが父に願って、天の使たちを十二軍団以上も、今つかわしていただくことができないと、あなたは思うのか。

⁵⁴But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

⁵⁴しかし、それでは、こうならねばならないと書いてある聖書の言葉は、どうして成就されようか」。

⁵⁵In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.

⁵⁵そのとき、イエスは群衆に言われた、「あなたがたは強盗にむかうように、剣や棒を持ってわたしを捕えにきたのか。わたしは毎日、宮ですわって教えていたのに、わたしをつかまえはしなかった。

⁵⁶But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

⁵⁶しかし、すべてこうなったのは、預言者たちの書いたことが、成就するためである」。そのとき、弟子たちは皆イエスを見捨てて逃げ去った。

⁵⁷And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

⁵⁷さて、イエスをつかまえた人たちは、大祭司カヤパのところにイエスを連れて行った。そこには律法学者、長老たちが集まっていた。

⁵⁸But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.

⁵⁸ペテロは遠くからイエスについて、大祭司の中庭まで行き、そのなりゆきを見とどけるために、中にはいって下役どもと一緒にすわっていた。

⁵⁹Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

⁵⁹さて、祭司長たちと全議会とは、イエスを死刑にするため、イエスに不利な偽証を求めようとしていた。

⁶⁰But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,

⁶⁰そこで多くの偽証者が出てきたが、証拠があがらなかった。しかし、最後にふたりの者が出てきて

⁶¹And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

⁶¹言った、「この人は、わたしは神の宮を打ちこわし、三日の後に建てることができる、と言いました」。

⁶²And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?

⁶²すると、大祭司が立ち上がってイエスに言った、「何も答えないのか。これらの人々があなたに対して不利な証言を申し立てているが、どうなのか」。

⁶³But Jesus held his peace, And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

⁶³しかし、イエスは黙っておられた。そこで大祭司は言った、「あなたは神の子キリストなのかどうか、生ける神に誓ってわれわれに答えよ」。

⁶⁴Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

⁶⁴イエスは彼に言われた、「あなたの言うとおりである。しかし、わたしは言っておく。あなたがたは、間もなく、人の子が力ある者の右に座し、天の雲に乗って来るのを見るであろう」。

⁶⁵Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

⁶⁵すると、大祭司はその衣を引き裂いて言った、「彼は神を汚した。どうしてこれ以上、証人の必要があろう。あなたがたは今このけがし言を聞いた。

⁶⁶What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

⁶⁶あなたがたの意見はどうか」。すると、彼らは答えて言った、「彼は死に当るものだ」。

⁶⁷Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,

⁶⁷それから、彼らはイエスの顔につばきをかけて、こぶしで打ち、またある人は手のひらでたたいて言った、

⁶⁸Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

⁶⁸「キリストよ、言いあててみよ、打ったのはだれか」。

⁶⁹Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.

⁶⁹ペテロは外で中庭にすわっていた。するとひとりの女中が彼のところにきて、「あなたもあのガリラヤ人イエスと一緒だった」と言った。

⁷⁰But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

⁷⁰するとペテロは、みんなの前でそれを打ち消して言った、「あなたが何を言っているのか、わからない」。

⁷¹And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

⁷¹そう言って入口の方に出て行くと、ほかの女中が彼を見て、そこにいる人々にむかって、「この人はナザレ人イエスと一緒だった」と言った。

⁷²And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

⁷²そこで彼は再びそれを打ち消して、「そんな人は知らない」と誓って言った。

⁷³And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.

⁷³しばらくして、そこに立っていた人々が近寄ってきて、ペテロに言った、「確かにあなたも彼らの仲間だ。言葉づかいであなたのことがわかる」。

⁷⁴Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.

⁷⁴彼は「その人のことは何も知らない」と言って、激しく誓いはじめた。するとすぐ鶏が鳴いた。ペテロは「鶏が鳴く前に、三度わたしを知らないと言うであろう」と言われたイエスの言葉を思い出し、外に出て激しく泣いた。

⁷⁵And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

⁷⁵ペテロは「鶏が鳴く前に、三度わたしを知らないと言うであろう」と言われたイエスの言葉を思い出し、外に出て激しく泣いた。
