¹Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?

¹主よ、なにゆえ遠く離れて立たれるのですか。なにゆえ悩みの時に身を隠されるのですか。

²The wicked in his pride doth persecute the poor: let them be taken in the devices that they have imagined.

²悪しき者は高ぶって貧しい者を激しく責めます。どうぞ彼らがその企てたはかりごとにみずから捕えられますように。

³For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth.

³悪しき者は自分の心の願いを誇り、むさぼる者は主をのろい、かつ捨てる。

⁴The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.

⁴悪しき者は誇り顔をして、神を求めない。その思いに、すべて「神はない」という。

⁵His ways are always grievous; thy judgments are far above out of his sight: as for all his enemies, he puffeth at them.

⁵彼の道は常に栄え、あなたのさばきは彼を離れて高く、彼はそのすべてのあだを口先で吹く。

⁶He hath said in his heart, I shall not be moved: for I shall never be in adversity.

⁶彼は心の内に言う、「わたしは動かされることはなく、世々わざわいにあうことがない」と。

⁷His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud: under his tongue is mischief and vanity.

⁷その口はのろいと、欺きと、しえたげとに満ち、その舌の下には害毒と不正とがある。

⁸He sitteth in the lurking places of the villages: in the secret places doth he murder the innocent: his eyes are privily set against the poor.

⁸彼は村里の隠れ場におり、忍びやかな所で罪のない者を殺す。その目は寄るべなき者をうかがい、

⁹He lieth in wait secretly as a lion in his den: he lieth in wait to catch the poor: he doth catch the poor, when he draweth him into his net.

⁹隠れ場にひそむししのように、ひそかに待ち伏せする。彼は貧しい者を捕えようと待ち伏せし、貧しい者を網にひきいれて捕える。

¹⁰He croucheth, and humbleth himself, that the poor may fall by his strong ones.

¹⁰寄るべなき者は彼の力によって打ちくじかれ、衰え、倒れる。

¹¹He hath said in his heart, God hath forgotten: he hideth his face; he will never see it.

¹¹彼は心のうちに言う、「神は忘れた、神はその顔を隠した、神は絶えて見ることはなかろう」と。

¹²Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up thine hand: forget not the humble.

¹²主よ、立ちあがってください。神よ、み手をあげてください。苦しむ者を忘れないでください。

¹³Wherefore doth the wicked contemn God? he hath said in his heart, Thou wilt not require it.

¹³なにゆえ、悪しき者は神を侮り、心のうちに「あなたはとがめることをしない」と言うのですか。

¹⁴Thou hast seen it; for thou beholdest mischief and spite, to requite it with thy hand: the poor committeth himself unto thee; thou art the helper of the fatherless.

¹⁴あなたはみそなわし、悩みと苦しみとを見て、それをみ手に取られます。寄るべなき者はあなたに身をゆだねるのです。あなたはいつもみなしごを助けられました。

¹⁵Break thou the arm of the wicked and the evil man: seek out his wickedness till thou find none.

¹⁵悪しき者と悪を行う者の腕を折り、その悪を一つも残さないまでに探り出してください。

¹⁶The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land.

¹⁶主はとこしえに王でいらせられる。もろもろの国民は滅びて主の国から跡を断つでしょう。

¹⁷LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear:

¹⁷主よ、あなたは柔和な者の願いを聞き、その心を強くし、耳を傾けて、みなしごと、しえたげられる者とのためにさばきを行われます。地に属する人は再び人を脅かすことはないでしょう。

¹⁸To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress.
