1Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.
1だから、ああ、すべて人をさばく者よ。あなたには弁解の余地がない。あなたは、他人をさばくことによって、自分自身を罪に定めている。さばくあなたも、同じことを行っているからである。
2But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
2わたしたちは、神のさばきが、このような事を行う者どもの上に正しく下ることを、知っている。
3And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
3ああ、このような事を行う者どもをさばきながら、しかも自ら同じことを行う人よ。あなたは、神のさばきをのがれうると思うのか。
4Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
4それとも、神の慈愛があなたを悔改めに導くことも知らないで、その慈愛と忍耐と寛容との富を軽んじるのか。
5But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
5あなたのかたくなな、悔改めのない心のゆえに、あなたは、神の正しいさばきの現れる怒りの日のために神の怒りを、自分の身に積んでいるのである。
6Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
6神は、おのおのに、そのわざにしたがって報いられる。
7To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
7すなわち、一方では、耐え忍んで善を行って、光栄とほまれと朽ちぬものとを求める人に、永遠のいのちが与えられ、
8But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
8他方では、党派心をいだき、真理に従わないで不義に従う人に、怒りと激しい憤りとが加えられる。
9Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
9悪を行うすべての人には、ユダヤ人をはじめギリシヤ人にも、患難と苦悩とが与えられ、
10But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
10善を行うすべての人には、ユダヤ人をはじめギリシヤ人にも、光栄とほまれと平安とが与えられる。
11For there is no respect of persons with God.
11なぜなら、神には、かたより見ることがないからである。
12For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
12そのわけは、律法なしに罪を犯した者は、また律法なしに滅び、律法のもとで罪を犯した者は、律法によってさばかれる。
13(For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
13なぜなら、律法を聞く者が、神の前に義なるものではなく、律法を行う者が、義とされるからである。
14For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
14すなわち、律法を持たない異邦人が、自然のままで、律法の命じる事を行うなら、たとい律法を持たなくても、彼らにとっては自分自身が律法なのである。
15Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)
15彼らは律法の要求がその心にしるされていることを現し、そのことを彼らの良心も共にあかしをして、その判断が互にあるいは訴え、あるいは弁明し合うのである。
16In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.
16そして、これらのことは、わたしの福音によれば、神がキリスト・イエスによって人々の隠れた事がらをさばかれるその日に、明らかにされるであろう。
17Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,
17もしあなたが、自らユダヤ人と称し、律法に安んじ、神を誇とし、
18And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;
18御旨を知り、律法に教えられて、なすべきことをわきまえており、
19And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,
19さらに、知識と真理とが律法の中に形をとっているとして、自ら盲人の手引き、やみにおる者の光、愚かな者の導き手、幼な子の教師をもって任じているのなら、
20An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.
20なぜ、人を教えて自分を教えないのか。盗むなと人に説いて、自らは盗むのか。
21Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal?
21姦淫するなと言って、自らは姦淫するのか。偶像を忌みきらいながら、自らは宮の物をかすめるのか。
22Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege?
22律法を誇としながら、自らは律法に違反して、神を侮っているのか。
23Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God?
23聖書に書いてあるとおり、「神の御名は、あなたがたのゆえに、異邦人の間で汚されている」。
24For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.
24もし、あなたが律法を行うなら、なるほど、割礼は役に立とう。しかし、もし律法を犯すなら、あなたの割礼は無割礼となってしまう。
25For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision.
25だから、もし無割礼の者が律法の規定を守るなら、その無割礼は割礼と見なされるではないか。
26Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision?
26かつ、生れながら無割礼の者であって律法を全うする者は、律法の文字と割礼とを持ちながら律法を犯しているあなたを、さばくのである。
27And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law?
27というのは、外見上のユダヤ人がユダヤ人ではなく、また、外見上の肉における割礼が割礼でもない。かえって、隠れたユダヤ人がユダヤ人であり、また、文字によらず霊による心の割礼こそ割礼であって、そのほまれは人からではなく、神から来るのである。
28For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
28かえって、隠れたユダヤ人がユダヤ人であり、また、文字によらず霊による心の割礼こそ割礼であって、そのほまれは人からではなく、神から来るのである。
29But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.
