¹Then came together unto him the Pharisees, and certain of the scribes, which came from Jerusalem.

¹Og fariseerne og nogen av de skriftlærde, som var kommet fra Jerusalem, samlet sig om ham.

²And when they saw some of his disciples eat bread with defiled, that is to say, with unwashen, hands, they found fault.

²Og de fikk se at nogen av hans disipler åt med vanhellige, det er uvaskede, hender;

³For the Pharisees, and all the Jews, except they wash their hands oft, eat not, holding the tradition of the elders.

³fariseerne og alle jøder eter ikke uten at de først omhyggelig har vasket hendene, for de holder fast ved de gamles vedtekt,

⁴And when they come from the market, except they wash, they eat not. And many other things there be, which they have received to hold, as the washing of cups, and pots, brasen vessels, and of tables.

⁴og når de kommer fra torvet, eter de ikke før de har vasket sig, og det er meget annet som de har vedtatt å holde: vaskninger av beger og krus og kobberkar og benker.

⁵Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

⁵Og fariseerne og de skriftlærde spurte ham: Hvorfor følger ikke dine disipler de gamles vedtekt, men eter med vanhellige hender?

⁶He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

⁶Men han sa til dem: Rett spådde Esaias om eder, I hyklere, således som skrevet er: Dette folk ærer mig med lebene, men deres hjerte er langt borte fra mig;

⁷Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

⁷men de dyrker mig forgjeves, idet de lærer lærdommer som er menneskebud.

⁸For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.

⁸I forlater Guds bud og holder fast ved menneskers vedtekt.

⁹And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

⁹Og han sa til dem: Det er riktig vakkert at I gjør Guds bud til intet for å holde eders vedtekt.

¹⁰For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:

¹⁰For Moses har sagt: Hedre din far og din mor, og: Den som banner far eller mor, skal visselig dø;

¹¹But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.

¹¹men I sier: Om et menneske sier til far eller mor: Det du skulde ha hatt til hjelp av mig, det skal være en korban, det er en gave til templet,

¹²And ye suffer him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;

¹²så lar I ham ikke lenger få lov til å gjøre noget for far eller mor,

¹³Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

¹³og således gjør I Guds ord til intet ved eders vedtekt, som I har pålagt menneskene. Og meget av samme slag gjør I.

¹⁴And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand:

¹⁴Og han kalte atter folket til sig og sa til dem: Hør på mig alle, og forstå hvad jeg sier!

¹⁵There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man.

¹⁵Det er intet utenfor mennesket som kan gjøre ham uren når det kommer inn i ham; men det som går ut av mennesket, det er det som gjør mennesket urent.

¹⁶If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.

¹⁶Om nogen har ører å høre med, han høre!

¹⁷And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.

¹⁷Og da han var kommet inn i et hus, bort fra folket, spurte hans disipler ham om denne lignelse.

¹⁸And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;

¹⁸Og han sa til dem: Er da også I så uforstandige? Skjønner I ikke at intet som kommer inn i mennesket utenfra, kan gjøre ham uren?

¹⁹Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?

¹⁹Det kommer jo ikke inn i hans hjerte, mere bare i hans buk, og går ut den naturlige vei, hvorved all mat blir renset.

²⁰And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.

²⁰Men han sa: Det som går ut av mennesket, det er det som gjør mennesket urent.

²¹For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders,

²¹For innenfra, fra menneskenes hjerte, kommer de onde tanker: utukt, tyveri, mord,

²²Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness:

²²hor, havesyke, ondskap, svik, skamløshet, ondt øie, bespottelse, overmot, uforstand.

²³All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

²³Alle disse onde ting kommer ut innenfra og gjør mennesket urent.

²⁴And from thence he arose, and went into the borders of Tyre and Sidon, and entered into an house, and would have no man know it: but he could not be hid.

²⁴Og han stod op og gikk bort derfra til Tyrus' og Sidons landemerker. Og han gikk inn i et hus, og vilde ikke at nogen skulde få vite det, og det kunde dog ikke holdes skjult;

²⁵For a certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard of him, and came and fell at his feet:

²⁵men en kvinne hvis datter hadde en uren ånd, hadde fått høre om ham, og kom straks og falt ned for hans føtter.

²⁶The woman was a Greek, a Syrophenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast forth the devil out of her daughter.

²⁶Men kvinnen var en hedensk kvinne, syrofønikisk av ætt; og hun bad ham at han vilde drive den onde ånd ut av hennes datter.

²⁷But Jesus said unto her, Let the children first be filled: for it is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it unto the dogs.

²⁷Og han sa til henne: La først barna bli mette! for det er ikke vakkert å ta brødet fra barna og kaste det for de små hunder.

²⁸And she answered and said unto him, Yes, Lord: yet the dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.

²⁸Men hun svarte ham: Det er sant, Herre! de små hunder eter jo under bordet av barnas smuler.

²⁹And he said unto her, For this saying go thy way; the devil is gone out of thy daughter.

²⁹Og han sa til henne: For dette ords skyld sier jeg dig: Gå bort! Den onde ånd er faret ut av din datter.

³⁰And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.

³⁰Og hun gikk bort til sitt hus og fant at barnet lå på sengen, og at den onde ånd var faret ut.

³¹And again, departing from the coasts of Tyre and Sidon, he came unto the sea of Galilee, through the midst of the coasts of Decapolis.

³¹Og da han gikk ut igjen fra Tyrus' landemerker, kom han gjennem Sidon til den Galileiske Sjø, midt igjennem Dekapolis-landet.

³²And they bring unto him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech; and they beseech him to put his hand upon him.

³²Og de førte til ham en mann som var døv og hadde ondt for å tale, og de bad ham legge sin hånd på ham.

³³And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;

³³Og han tok ham avsides fra folket, og stakk sine fingrer i hans ører og spyttet og rørte ved hans tunge,

³⁴And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.

³⁴og så op mot himmelen, sukket og sa til ham: Effata! det er: lat dig op!

³⁵And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.

³⁵Og straks blev hans ører oplatt, og hans tunges bånd blev løst, og han talte rent.

³⁶And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;

³⁶Og han forbød dem å si det til nogen; men jo mere han forbød dem det, dess mere kunngjorde de det.

³⁷And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

³⁷Og de var overvettes forundret og sa: Han har gjort alle ting vel; både gjør han at de døve hører, og at de målløse taler.
