1When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language;
1Da Israel drog ut av Egypten, Jakobs hus fra et folk med fremmed tungemål,
2Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion.
2da blev Juda hans* helligdom, Israel hans rike. / {* Herrens.}
3The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back.
3Havet så det og flydde, Jordan vendte om og løp tilbake.
4The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs.
4Fjellene hoppet som værer, haugene som unge lam.
5What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back?
5Hvad har hendt dig, du hav, at du flyr, du Jordan, at du vender om og løper tilbake,
6Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs?
6I fjell, at I hopper som værer, I hauger som unge lam?
7Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob;
7For Herrens åsyn bev, du jord, for Jakobs Guds åsyn,
8Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.
8han som gjør klippen til en vannrik sjø, den hårde sten til en vannkilde!
