¹Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.

¹ خداوند متعال در رؤیای دیگری سبدی پُر از میوهٔ رسیده را به من نشان داد

²And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the LORD unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

² و از من پرسید: «عاموس چه می‌بینی؟» من جواب دادم: «یک سبد پُر از میوهٔ رسیده.» خداوند فرمود: «وقت آن رسیده است که قوم من، اسرائیل به جزای کارهای خود برسند و من از مجازات آنها منصرف نمی‌شوم.

³And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.

³ در آن روز سرودهایی که مردم در معبد می‌خوانند به گریه و نوحه تبدیل می‌شوند. اجساد مردگان در همه‌جا به چشم می‌خورند و سکوت مطلق سایه می‌افکند.»

⁴Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

⁴ بشنوید ای کسانی‌که فقرا را پایمال می‌کنید و بینوایان را از بین می‌برید!

⁵Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?

⁵ به فکر این هستید که هرچه زودتر روزهای مقدّس و روزهای سبت به پایان برسند تا به کسب و کار خود شروع کنید و غلّهٔ خود را به قیمت‌گران بفروشید. با ترازوی نادرست و با وزنه‌های سبک مشتریان را فریب می‌دهید.

⁶That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat?

⁶ گندم پس ماندهٔ خود را به فقرا در مقابل نقره می‌فروشید و مردم مسکین را به‌خاطر طلب یک جفت کفش به غلامی می‌گیرید.

⁷The LORD hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.

⁷ خداوند، که بنی‌اسرائیل او را احترام می‌کند قسم خورده می‌فرماید: «من هرگز کارهای آنها را فراموش نمی‌کنم.

⁸Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.

⁸ پس این سرزمین به لرزه می‌آید و ساکنان آن ماتم می‌گیرند و تمام سرزمین اسرائیل مانند رود نیل در هنگام سیلاب، به خروش خواهد آمد بالا و پایین خواهد رفت.»

⁹And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:

⁹ خداوند متعال می‌فرماید: «در آن روز به فرمان من آفتاب در وقت ظهر غروب می‌کند و زمین را در روز روشن تاریک می‌سازم.

¹⁰And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

¹⁰ جشن‌هایتان را به ماتم و سرود شما را به نوحه تبدیل می‌کنم. آنگاه مانند اینکه پسر یگانهٔ شما مرده باشد، سرهایتان را خواهید تراشید و لباس ماتم می‌پوشید و آن روز برای شما روزی بسیار تلخ و ناگوار خواهد بود.»

¹¹Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

¹¹ خداوند می‌فرماید: «روزی می‌رسد که قحطی را به این سرزمین می‌فرستم. این قحطی، قحطی نان و آب نخواهد بود بلکه قحطی از شنیدن کلام خداوند می‌باشد.

¹²And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

¹² مردم به دنبال کلام خداوند از دریای مرده تا مدیترانه و اطراف آن از شمال تا مشرق می‌گردند، امّا موفّق به یافتن آن نمی‌شوند.

¹³In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

¹³ در آن روز حتّی دختران و مردان جوان و سالم هم از تشنگی ضعف خواهند نمود. کسانی‌که به نام بُتهای سامره و دان و بئرشبع قسم می‌خورند، خواهند افتاد و هرگز برنخواهند خاست.»

¹⁴They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

¹⁴ کسانی‌که به نام بُتهای سامره و دان و بئرشبع قسم می‌خورند، خواهند افتاد و هرگز برنخواهند خاست.»
