¹In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, saying,

¹ در روز اولِ ماهِ ششمِ سال دومِ سلطنت داریوش شاهنشاه، خداوند پیامی توسط حجّای نبی برای زروبابل پسر شالتیئیل حاکم یهودا و برای یهوشع پسر یهوصادق کاهن اعظم فرستاد.

²Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that the LORD's house should be built.

² خداوند متعال به حَجّای فرمود: «این مردم می‌گویند که اکنون وقت بازسازی خانهٔ خداوند نیست.»

³Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,

³ بعد خداوند این پیام را توسط حجّای نبی برای مردم فرستاد:

⁴Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?

⁴ «ای قوم من، چرا شما در خانه‌های زیبا زندگی می‌کنید درحالی‌که معبد بزرگ ویران می‌باشد؟

⁵Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.

⁵ ‌به نتیجهٔ کارهایتان توجّه کنید:

⁶Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.

⁶ زیاد می‌کارید، ولی محصولِ کم برمی‌دارید. می‌خورید، امّا سیر نمی‌شوید. می‌نوشید و باز هم تشنگی‌تان رفع نمی‌گردد. لباس‌ می‌پوشید، امّا گرم نمی‌شوید. مزد می‌گیرید امّا گویی آن را در جیبی که سوراخ است می‌گذارید.

⁷Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.

⁷ خوب فکر کنید و ببینید که چرا چنین است؟

⁸Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD.

⁸ حالا به کوه بروید و چوب بیاورید و خانهٔ مرا بازسازی کنید تا من از دیدن آن خشنود شوم و محترم شمرده شوم.

⁹Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the LORD of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.

⁹ «منتظر محصول فراوان بودید، ولی کم به دست آوردید و وقتی‌که آن محصول کم را به خانه آوردید، من آن را برباد دادم. آیا می‌دانید چرا من این کار را کردم؟ به‌خاطر اینکه خانهٔ من ویران مانده و شما مشغول ساختن خانه‌های خود هستید.

¹⁰Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.

¹⁰ به همین سبب است که باران نمی‌بارد و از زمین چیزی نمی‌روید.

¹¹And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

¹¹ من خشکسالی را بر زمین، کوهها، مزارع، تاکستانها، باغهای زیتون، سایر محصولات و همچنین انسان و حیوان و تمام حاصل زحمت شما آوردم.»

¹²Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the LORD their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the LORD their God had sent him, and the people did fear before the LORD.

¹² آنگاه زروبابل و یهوشع و تمام کسانی‌که از اسارت در بابل، برگشته بودند از خداوند ترسیدند و دستور خداوند خدای خود را، که توسط حجّای نبی فرستاده شده بود، اطاعت کردند.

¹³Then spake Haggai the LORD's messenger in the LORD's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith the LORD.

¹³ خداوند پیام دیگری توسط حجّای برای مردم فرستاد و فرمود: «من همراه شما هستم.»

¹⁴And the LORD stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of the LORD of hosts, their God,

¹⁴ خداوند متعال در زروبابل، حاکم یهودا، یهوشع، کاهن اعظم و در سایر مردم که از اسارت بازگشته بودند شوق و رغبتی ایجاد کرد تا در معبد بزرگ کار کنند. پس در روز بیست و چهارمِ ماه ششمِ سال دومِ سلطنت داریوش، همگی جمع شدند و ساختن معبد بزرگ خداوند، خدایشان را آغاز نمودند.

¹⁵In the four and twentieth day of the sixth month, in the second year of Darius the king.

¹⁵ پس در روز بیست و چهارمِ ماه ششمِ سال دومِ سلطنت داریوش، همگی جمع شدند و ساختن معبد بزرگ خداوند، خدایشان را آغاز نمودند.
