¹In the seventh month, in the one and twentieth day of the month, came the word of the LORD by the prophet Haggai, saying,

¹ در روز بیست و یکم ماه هفتم همان سال، خداوند به حجّای نبی فرمود:

²Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the residue of the people, saying,

² «از زروبابل، حاکم یهودا و یهوشع، کاهن اعظم بپرس:

³Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see it now? is it not in your eyes in comparison of it as nothing?

³ آیا در بین شما کسی هست که جلال و عظمت معبد بزرگ را، همان‌طور که در سابق بود به یاد آورد؟ آیا آنچه را که اکنون می‌سازید به نظر شما ناچیز نیست؟

⁴Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, saith the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of the land, saith the LORD, and work: for I am with you, saith the LORD of hosts:

⁴ امّا با این‌همه، ای زروبابل و یهوشع و تمام قوم، مأیوس نشوید و قوی‌دل باشید. به کارتان ادامه دهید، زیرا من همراه شما هستم.

⁵According to the word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt, so my spirit remaineth among you: fear ye not.

⁵ وقتی از مصر خارج می‌شدید، به شما وعده دادم که روح من همیشه با شما خواهد بود، من هنوز با شما هستم، پس نترسید!

⁶For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;

⁶ «بزودی بار دیگر آسمانها، زمین، دریاها و خشکی را به لرزه می‌آورم.

⁷And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.

⁷ تمام اقوام را سرنگون می‌سازم. دارایی و ثروتشان به اینجا آورده می‌شود و این خانه را از شکوه و جلال پُر می‌سازم.

⁸The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.

⁸ تمام طلا و نقره دنیا از آن من است.

⁹The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts.

⁹ این خانه با شکوهتر از سابق می‌شود و در اینجا به قوم خود صلح و سلامتی می‌بخشم.» خداوند متعال این را فرموده است.

¹⁰In the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying,

¹⁰ در روز بیست و چهارمِ ماه نهمِ سال دومِ سلطنت داریوش، خداوند بار دیگر به حَجّای نبی فرمود:

¹¹Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,

¹¹ «از کاهنان بپرس که شریعت به این سؤال چه جواب می‌دهد:

¹²If one bear holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt do touch bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any meat, shall it be holy? And the priests answered and said, No.

¹² اگر کسی گوشت مقدّس را در ردای خود گذاشته ببرد، اگر دامنش با نان، آش، شراب، روغن و یا هر نوع خوراک دیگر تماس پیدا کند، آیا آن خوراک مقدّس می‌شود؟» وقتی حَجّای این سؤال را از کاهنان کرد پرسید، آنها جواب دادند: «نه.»

¹³Then said Haggai, If one that is unclean by a dead body touch any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.

¹³ سپس حَجّای پرسید: «امّا اگر کسی با جنازه‌ای تماس پیداکرده ناپاک شده باشد و بعد به یکی از این خوراکها دست بزند، آیا آن خوراک ناپاک می‌شود؟» کاهنان جواب دادند: «بلی، ناپاک می‌شود.»

¹⁴Then answered Haggai, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, saith the LORD; and so is every work of their hands; and that which they offer there is unclean.

¹⁴ پس حَجّای گفت: «خداوند می‌فرماید که این مردم هم همین‌طور هستند، هر کاری که می‌کنند و هر هدیه‌ای که به این خانه می‌آورند، ناپاک است.»

¹⁵And now, I pray you, consider from this day and upward, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD:

¹⁵ خداوند می‌فرماید: «حالا خوب فکر کنید و ببینید پیش از آنکه به ساختن خانهٔ من شروع کنید،

¹⁶Since those days were, when one came to an heap of twenty measures, there were but ten: when one came to the pressfat for to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.

¹⁶ ‌ شما در چه وضعی بودید؟ در آن وقت شما توقع داشتید که دو خروار محصول بردارید، امّا تنها یک خروار به دست می‌آوردید و هرگاه می‌خواستید پنجاه لیتر شراب از خمره بکشید، فقط بیست لیتر در آن می‌یافتید.

¹⁷I smote you with blasting and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands; yet ye turned not to me, saith the LORD.

¹⁷ ‌من حاصل دسترنج شما را با باد سوزان، آفت و تگرگ تباه کردم، امّا شما باز هم توبه نکردید.

¹⁸Consider now from this day and upward, from the four and twentieth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD's temple was laid, consider it.

¹⁸ ‌ولی از امروز به بعد که روز بیست و چهارم ماه نهم و روزی است که بنیاد خانهٔ من گذاشته شده است، خواهید دید که با شما چه می‌کنم.

¹⁹Is the seed yet in the barn? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I bless you.

¹⁹ ‌هرچند که غلّه‌ای در انبارها باقی نمانده و هنوز تاکها و درختان انجیر، انار و زیتون، میوه نیاورده‌اند، امّا از همین روز شما را برکت می‌دهم.»

²⁰And again the word of the LORD came unto Haggai in the four and twentieth day of the month, saying,

²⁰ در همان روز بیست و چهارم ماه، بار دیگر این پیام از جانب خداوند برای حَجّای آمد:

²¹Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I will shake the heavens and the earth;

²¹ «به زروبابل، حاکم یهودا بگو که بزودی آسمانها و زمین را به لرزه می‌آورم.

²²And I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the heathen; and I will overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother.

²² تختهای پادشاهان را واژگون می‌کنم. قدرت فرمانروایان را با ارّابه و سوارانشان از بین می‌برم و اسبان و سواران آنها یکدیگر را با شمشیرهای خود می‌کشند. در آن روز، ای زروبابل، پسر شالتیئیل، بندهٔ من، تو مانند نگین انگشتر من خواهی بود، زیرا که من تو را برگزیده‌ام.» این قول خداوند متعال است.

²³In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, will I take thee, O Zerubbabel, my servant, the son of Shealtiel, saith the LORD, and will make thee as a signet: for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of hosts.

²³ در آن روز، ای زروبابل، پسر شالتیئیل، بندهٔ من، تو مانند نگین انگشتر من خواهی بود، زیرا که من تو را برگزیده‌ام.» این قول خداوند متعال است.
