¹Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

¹ خداوند به من گفت بروم و لُنگی برای بستن به دور کمرم بخرم و آن را بپوشم، ولی آن را در آب فرو نکنم.

²So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put it on my loins.

² پس من آن را خریدم و پوشیدم.

³And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,

³ آنگاه خداوند دوباره به من گفت:

⁴Take the girdle that thou hast got, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

⁴ «به کنار رود فرات برو و آن را در سوراخی در میان صخره‌ها پنهان کن.»

⁵So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.

⁵ پس من به کنار رود فرات رفتم و آن را مخفی کردم.

⁶And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.

⁶ مدّتی بعد خداوند به من گفت تا به کنار رود فرات بازگردم و لُنگ را بردارم.

⁷Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

⁷ پس گشتم و وقتی محلی که آنها را پنهان نموده بودم یافتم، دیدم که لُنگ پوسیده و دیگر بی‌فایده شده است.

⁸Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

⁸ آنگاه خداوند دوباره به من گفت:

⁹Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

⁹ «من غرور یهودا و تکبّر اورشلیم را به همین نحو از بین خواهم برد.

¹⁰This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

¹⁰ این مردم شریر از اطاعت من سرپیچی کرده‌اند. آنها مثل همیشه سرسخت و شریرند، و خدایان بیگانه را ستایش و خدمت کرده‌اند. پس آنها مثل این پارچه می‌پوسند و بی‌فایده خواهند بود.

¹¹For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

¹¹ همان‌طور که پارچهٔ کتانی به کمر می‌چسبد، می‌خواستم قوم اسرائیل و یهودا همین‌طور به من بچسبند. من چنین کردم تا قوم من باعث افتخار و ستایش نام من باشند، امّا آنها از من اطاعت نکردند.»

¹²Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

¹² خداوند به من گفت: «ای ارمیا، به مردم اسرائیل بگو که تمام خُمره‌هایشان را از شراب پُر کنند. آنها به تو خواهند گفت که خودشان می‌دانند که باید خُمره‌های خود را از شراب پُر کنند.

¹³Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

¹³ بعد به آنها بگو که من، خداوند این سرزمین را چنان از شراب پُر می‌کنم که همه مست شوند؛ همه، یعنی پادشاهانی که از فرزندان داوود هستند، کاهنان و انبیا و تمام مردم اورشلیم.

¹⁴And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.

¹⁴ آنگاه من همهٔ آنها را -‌پیر و جوان- مثل کوزه‌هایی که در برخورد با یکدیگر می‌شکنند، درهم خواهم شکست. هیچ رحم، شفقت و بخششی نمی‌تواند مانع نابودی آنها شود.»

¹⁵Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken.

¹⁵ ای قوم اسرائیل، خداوند سخن گفته است فروتن باش و به او گوش بده.

¹⁶Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

¹⁶ خداوند، خدای خود را تکریم کنید، قبل از اینکه او روزگار شما را تیره کند و شما بر فراز کوه‌ها بلغزید، قبل از آنکه او، نوری را که در انتظارش هستید به ظلمت مبدّل کند.

¹⁷But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD's flock is carried away captive.

¹⁷ اگر گوش ندهید، به‌خاطر غرور شما در خفا خواهم گریست. برای قوم خدا که به اسارت رفته‌اند به سختی خواهم گریست و اشک خواهم ریخت.

¹⁸Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, even the crown of your glory.

¹⁸ خداوند به من گفت: «به پادشاه و به مادرش بگو از تختهای خود به زیر آیند، چون تاجهای زیبای آنها از سرشان افتاده است.»

¹⁹The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open them: Judah shall be carried away captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away captive.

¹⁹ شهرهای جنوبی یهودا محاصره شده و کسی نمی‌تواند وارد آنها شود. تمام مردم یهودا را به اسارت برده‌اند.

²⁰Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

²⁰ ای اورشلیم، نگاه کن! دشمنانت از جانب شمال به سوی تو در حرکت هستند! کجا هستند مردمی که سرپرستی تو به آنها سپرده شده بود، مردمی که مورد افتخار تو بودند.

²¹What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them to be captains, and as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?

²¹ وقتی کسانی‌که تو آنها را دوست می‌پنداشتی بر تو غلبه و بر تو حکومت کنند، تو چه خواهی کرد؟ تو درد خواهی کشید؛ مثل درد زنی در حال زایمان.

²²And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, and thy heels made bare.

²² اگر بپرسی چرا تو می‌باید متحمّل تمام این دردها شوی، چرا لباسهایت دریده و به تو تجاوز شده است، همه به این خاطر است که مرتکب گناهان بزرگی شده‌ای.

²³Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

²³ آیا یک سیاه‌‌پوست می‌تواند رنگ پوست خود را عوض کند و یا یک پلنگ می‌تواند خالهایش را از بین ببرد؟ اگر آنها بتوانند، در‌ آن صورت تو هم که چیزی جز شرارت نمی‌دانی خواهی توانست کارهای نیک انجام دهی.

²⁴Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.

²⁴ خداوند همهٔ شما را مثل کاهی در برابر باد کویری پراکنده خواهد کرد.

²⁵This is thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the LORD; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

²⁵ او گفته است که این سرنوشت شماست. این است آنچه او بر سر شما خواهد آورد، چون شما او را فراموش نموده و به خدایان دروغین توکّل کرده‌اید.

²⁶Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear.

²⁶ خداوند، خودش شما را عریان و رسوا خواهد کرد. او کارهای زشت شما را دیده است که چگونه مثل مردمی که شهوتِ تصاحب زن همسایهٔ خود را دارد و مثل اسب نری که به دنبال مادیان است، شما بر روی تپّه‌ها و در دشتها در پی خدایان بیگانه هستید. وای بر شما ای مردم اورشلیم! کی از این گناهان پاک خواهید شد؟

²⁷I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, and thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when shall it once be?

²⁷ او کارهای زشت شما را دیده است که چگونه مثل مردمی که شهوتِ تصاحب زن همسایهٔ خود را دارد و مثل اسب نری که به دنبال مادیان است، شما بر روی تپّه‌ها و در دشتها در پی خدایان بیگانه هستید. وای بر شما ای مردم اورشلیم! کی از این گناهان پاک خواهید شد؟
