¹If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove.

¹ خداوند می‌گوید: «ای قوم اسرائیل، اگر بخواهید شما می‌توانید به سوی من بازگردید. اگر شما آن بُتهایی را که من از آنها نفرت دارم دور بریزید،

²And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.

² آن وقت شایسته است به نام من سوگند یاد کنید. آنگاه، تمام ملّتها از من خواهند خواست تا آنها را برکت دهم، و آنها مرا حمد خواهند گفت.»

³For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

³ خداوند به مردم اسرائیل و یهودا می‌گوید: «مزارع شخم نخوردهٔ خود را شخم بزنید، بذرهای خود را در میان خارها نپاشید.

⁴Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

⁴ عهد خود را با من، خداوند خویش نگه ‌دارید و ای مردمان یهودا و اسرائیل خود را وقف من کنید. وگرنه خشم من به‌خاطر شرارتهای شما مثل آتش همه‌چیز را خواهد سوزاند و هیچ‌وقت خاموش نخواهد شد.»

⁵Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities.

⁵ شیپورها را در تمام سرزمین بنوازید! با فریاد بلند و به طور واضح به مردم یهودا و اورشلیم بگویید به شهرهایی پناه ببرند که بُرج و بارویی مستحکم دارند.

⁶Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.

⁶ نشانه‌ای به طرف صهیون بگذارید! با سرعت به جاهای امن بروید! تأخیر نکنید! خداوند بلا و ویرانی بزرگی از جانب شمال می‌آورد.

⁷The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

⁷ مثل شیری که از مخفیگاهش بیرون می‌آید، ویرانگر ملّتها عازم حمله‌ است. او می‌آید تا یهودیه را ویران کند. یهودیه به مخروبه‌ای تبدیل خواهد شد، و هیچ‌کس در آنها زندگی نخواهد کرد.

⁸For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.

⁸ پس پلاس برتن، گریه و شیون کنید، چون هنوز خداوند نسبت به یهودا غضبناک است.

⁹And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.

⁹ خداوند گفت: «در‌ آن روز پادشاهان و بزرگان جرأت خود را از دست می‌دهند، کاهنان حیران و انبیا در تعجّب خواهند بود.»

¹⁰Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul.

¹⁰ آنگاه من گفتم: «ای خداوند متعال تو مردم اورشلیم را کاملاً فریب داده‌ای! تو گفته‌ای صلح خواهد بود، امّا شمشیر گلویشان را پاره می‌کند.»

¹¹At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to fan, nor to cleanse,

¹¹ زمانی می‌رسد که به مردم اورشلیم گفته خواهد شد که بادی سوزان از طرف بیابان می‌وزد. آن باد ملایمی نخواهد بود که کاه و پوشال را از گندم جدا می‌کند؛

¹²Even a full wind from those places shall come unto me: now also will I give sentence against them.

¹² بادی که اکنون به فرمان خداوند می‌وزد، بسیار سخت‌تر است! این خود خداوند است! که چنین حکمی دربارهٔ قومش صادر کرده است.

¹³Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are spoiled.

¹³ نگاه کنید، دشمن مانند ابر می‌آید. ارّابه‌های جنگی‌اش مثل گردباد و اسبانش سریعتر از عقاب حرکت می‌کنند، ما محکوم به نابودی هستیم.

¹⁴O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?

¹⁴ ای اورشلیم، قلبت را از شرارت پاک کن تا نجات یابی. تا کی می‌خواهی با افکار گناه‌آلود زندگی کنی؟

¹⁵For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth affliction from mount Ephraim.

¹⁵ پیام‌آوران از شهر دان و از کوههای افرایم حامل خبرهای بدی هستند.

¹⁶Make ye mention to the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.

¹⁶ آنها آمده‌اند تا به ملّتها اخطار کنند و به مردم اورشلیم بگویند که دشمنان از سرزمینی دور می‌آیند. این دشمنان برضد شهرهای یهودا فریاد می‌زنند.

¹⁷As keepers of a field, are they against her round about; because she hath been rebellious against me, saith the LORD.

¹⁷ و آنها مثل محافظانی که مزرعه‌ای را نگهداری می‌کنند اورشلیم را محاصره خواهند کرد. این به‌خاطر آن است که مردمش برضد خداوند شوریده‌اند. خداوند چنین گفته است.

¹⁸Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.

¹⁸ ای یهودا، با نحوهٔ زندگی‌ات و کارهایی که مرتکب شده‌ای این بلا را بر سر خودت آورده‌ای. گناه تو، تو را به این روز انداخته و مثل شمشیری به قلب تو فرو رفته است.

¹⁹My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

¹⁹ درد! دردی که نمی‌توانم آن را تحمّل کنم! قلبم! قلبم بشدّت می‌تپد! نمی‌توانم ساکت بمانم، صدای شیپورها و فریادهای جنگ را می‌شنوم.

²⁰Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is spoiled: suddenly are my tents spoiled, and my curtains in a moment.

²⁰ مصیبت‌ها یکی پس از دیگری می‌آیند، و تمام مملکت ویران شده است. چادر‌های ما ناگهان درهم شکسته و پرده‌های آنها پاره‌پاره شده‌اند.

²¹How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?

²¹ تا به کی باید شاهد چنین جنگ مهیبی باشم، و تا به کی باید صدای شیپور جنگ را بشنوم؟

²²For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

²² خداوند می‌گوید: «قوم من احمقند، آنها مرا نمی‌شناسند. آنها مثل کودکان احمقی هستند که فهم و شعور ندارند. در ارتکاب شرارت ماهرند، ولی در بجا آوردن نیکی قاصر.»

²³I beheld the earth, and, lo, it was without form, and void; and the heavens, and they had no light.

²³ به زمین نگاه کردم -‌بایر و ویران بود، به آسمان نگریستم-‌در آن نوری نبود.

²⁴I beheld the mountains, and, lo, they trembled, and all the hills moved lightly.

²⁴ به کوهها نگاه کردم -‌آنها در لرزش بودند، و تپّه‌ها از یک طرف به طرفی دیگر در نوسان بودند.

²⁵I beheld, and, lo, there was no man, and all the birds of the heavens were fled.

²⁵ هیچ انسانی در آنجا نبود، حتّی پرندگان هم، از آنجا گریخته بودند.

²⁶I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.

²⁶ زمین حاصلخیز به بیابان، و شهرهای آن به‌خاطر غضب خداوند به ویرانه‌ای تبدیل شده‌اند.

²⁷For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.

²⁷ (خداوند گفته است که تمام زمین بایر خواهد شد ولی آن را کاملاً از بین نخواهد برد.)

²⁸For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black; because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.

²⁸ زمین سوگوار و آسمان تیره خواهد شد. خداوند چنین گفته است و فکر خود را عوض نخواهد کرد. او تصمیم خود را گرفته و از آن برنخواهد گشت.

²⁹The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.

²⁹ با شنیدن فریاد اسب سواران و تیراندازان همه خواهند گریخت. بعضی‌ها به جنگل پناه می‌برند و دیگران برفراز کوهها پنهان می‌شوند. تمام شهرها از جمعیّت خالی خواهند شد و دیگر کسی در آنها زندگی نخواهد کرد.

³⁰And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.

³⁰ ای اورشلیم، تو محکوم به فنا هستی! چرا جامهٔ قرمز می‌پوشی؟ چرا خود را با جواهرات می‌آرایی و سُرمه بر چشمان خود می‌کشی، خودت را بیهوده زیبا می‌کنی! عُشاق تو، تو را طرد کرده و می‌خواهند تو را بکشند. فریادی شنیدم، شبیه فریاد زنی در حال زایمان، زنی که اولین بچّه‌اش را به دنیا‌ می‌آورد. این فریاد اورشلیم بود که برای نفس کشیدن تقلّا می‌کرد، دست خود را بلند می‌کند و می‌گوید: «من محکوم به فنا هستم! آنها برای کشتن من می‌آیند.»

³¹For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, and the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.

³¹ فریادی شنیدم، شبیه فریاد زنی در حال زایمان، زنی که اولین بچّه‌اش را به دنیا‌ می‌آورد. این فریاد اورشلیم بود که برای نفس کشیدن تقلّا می‌کرد، دست خود را بلند می‌کند و می‌گوید: «من محکوم به فنا هستم! آنها برای کشتن من می‌آیند.»
