¹O ye children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Bethhaccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.

¹ ای قوم بنیامین فرار کنید، از اورشلیم خارج شوید و به جای امنی بروید! در تقوع شیپور را به صدا درآورید و در بیت‌هکاریم آتشی برای فرستادن اخطار برافروزید. مصیبت و ویرانی از جانب شمال بزودی خواهد رسید.

²I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.

² شهر صهیون زیباست، ولی ویران خواهد شد.

³The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place.

³ پادشاهان به همراه ارتش‌های خود در آنجا اردو خواهند زد. آنها در اطراف شهر اردو می‌زنند و هرکس هر جا که بخواهد اردو می‌زند.

⁴Prepare ye war against her; arise, and let us go up at noon. Woe unto us! for the day goeth away, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out.

⁴ آنها می‌گویند، «برای حمله به اورشلیم آمده شوید! حاضر شوید! در وقت ظهر حمله خواهیم کرد!» امّا بعد می‌گویند: «اکنون خیلی دیر شده، روز رو به پایان است، وقتی سایه‌ها بلند‌تر می‌شوند، نشان می‌دهد که غروب نزدیک است.

⁵Arise, and let us go by night, and let us destroy her palaces.

⁵ پس در شب حمله را شروع خواهیم کرد، و قلعه‌های دفاعی شهر را خراب خواهیم کرد.»

⁶For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.

⁶ خداوند متعال به این پادشاهان دستور داده است درختان را قطع کنند و برای محاصرهٔ اورشلیم تپّه‌هایی به عنوان سنگر بسازند. خداوند گفت: «من شهر را مجازات می‌کنم چون از ظلم پر شده است.

⁷As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.

⁷ مثل یک چاه آب، که آبش را تازه و گوارا نگه می‌دارد، به همان نحو اورشلیم شرارت را در درون خود تازه نگه می‌دارد. من فریادهای خشونت و ویرانی را از داخل شهر می‌شنوم، بیماری و جراحت تنها چیزی است که می‌بینم.

⁸Be thou instructed, O Jerusalem, lest my soul depart from thee; lest I make thee desolate, a land not inhabited.

⁸ ای مردم اسرائیل بگذارید که این سختی‌‌ها برای شما اخطاری باشد، وگرنه شما را ترک می‌کنم، و شهر شما را به بیابان تبدیل می‌کنم، جایی که دیگر هیچ‌کس نتواند در آن زندگی کند.»

⁹Thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall throughly glean the remnant of Israel as a vine: turn back thine hand as a grapegatherer into the baskets.

⁹ خداوند متعال به من گفت: «اسرائیل مانند تاکستانی که تمام انگورهایش را چیده باشند، بی‌ثمر خواهد ماند. پس تو باید تا وقت باقی است، هرکس را که می‌توانی نجات دهی.»

¹⁰To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.

¹⁰ من در پاسخ گفتم: «وقتی به آنها چنین اخطاری بدهم، چه کسی به حرفهای من گوش خواهد داد؟ آنها همه سرسخت هستند و از شنیدن پیام تو امتناع می‌کنند. آنها به کلامی که از جانب تو به آنها بگویم خواهند خندید.

¹¹Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days.

¹¹ خشم تو نسبت به آنها مرا هم سوزانده و بیش از این طاقت آن را ندارم.» آنگاه خداوند به من گفت: «از کاسهٔ خشم من بر سر کودکانی که در کوچه‌ها هستند و بر سر جوانانی که دور هم جمع شده‌اند، بریز. زنان را به همراه شوهرانشان خواهند برد، حتّی از افراد بسیار پیر هم نخواهند گذشت.

¹²And their houses shall be turned unto others, with their fields and wives together: for I will stretch out my hand upon the inhabitants of the land, saith the LORD.

¹² خانه‌ها، مزارع و حتّی زنهایشان را به دیگران خواهند داد. من مردم این سرزمین را مجازات خواهم کرد.

¹³For from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.

¹³ همه -‌کوچک و بزرگ- سعی می‌کنند با ناراستی پولدار شوند؛ حتّی انبیا و کاهنان هم مردم را فریب می‌دهند.

¹⁴They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

¹⁴ آنها چنان وانمود می‌کنند که گویی زخمهای قوم جزئی و سطحی هستند. آنها می‌گویند: 'همه‌چیز خوب و درست است،' درحالی‌که هیچ چیز خوب و درست نیست.

¹⁵Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD.

¹⁵ آیا از انجام تمام این کارهای زشت شرمنده بودند؟ نه، شرمنده نبودند؛ آنها از شرم و حیا چیزی نمی‌دانند. پس آنها هم مثل دیگران از بین خواهند رفت. وقتی آنها را مجازات کنم، از آنها دیگر چیزی باقی نخواهد ماند. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»

¹⁶Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

¹⁶ خداوند به قوم خود گفت: «بر سر چهارراهها بایستید و نگاه کنید. سراغ جاده‌های قدیمی را بگیرید و بپرسید بهترین راه کجاست، و از همان راه بروید تا در امن و امان باشید.» امّا آنها گفتند: «نه، ما از آن راه نخواهیم رفت!»

¹⁷Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.

¹⁷ آنگاه خداوند محافظانی را گماشت تا به صدای اخطار شیپورها گوش دهند. امّا آنها گفتند: «ما گوش نخواهیم داد.»

¹⁸Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.

¹⁸ پس خداوند گفت: «ای ملّتها، گوش دهید واز آنچه بر قوم من واقع می‌شود عبرت بگیرید.

¹⁹Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.

¹⁹ ای تمام روی زمین، گوش دهید! جزای این مردم برای نقشه‌های شریرانه‌ای که دارند این است: من آنها را از بین خواهم برد، چون آنها تعالیم مرا رد کرده و به دستورات من گوش نداده‌اند.

²⁰To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.

²⁰ بُخوری که آنها از سرزمین سبا و عطریّاتی که از کشورهای دوردست می‌آورند برایم بی‌ارزش است. من قربانی‌های آنها را نمی‌پذیرم و از آنها خشنود نیستم.

²¹Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.

²¹ پس من کاری می‌کنم که این مردم بلغزند و بیفتند. پدران و پسران، دوستان و همسایگان همه با هم خواهند مُرد.»

²²Thus saith the LORD, Behold, a people cometh from the north country, and a great nation shall be raised from the sides of the earth.

²² خداوند می‌گوید: «مردم از کشوری در شمال می‌آیند، ملّتی قوی در سرزمینی دور آمادهٔ جنگ می‌شود.

²³They shall lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roareth like the sea; and they ride upon horses, set in array as men for war against thee, O daughter of Zion.

²³ آنها که کمانها و شمشیرهای خود را برداشته‌اند، آدمهای ظالم و بی‌رحمی هستند. سواره نظام آنها مثل دریا می‌خروشد. آنها آمده‌اند تا با اورشلیم بجنگند.»

²⁴We have heard the fame thereof: our hands wax feeble: anguish hath taken hold of us, and pain, as of a woman in travail.

²⁴ مردم اورشلیم می‌گویند: «ما این خبر را شنیده‌ایم. از این رو دستهایمان سست شده و مثل زنی در حال زایمان، نگرانی و درد تمام وجود ما را گرفته است.

²⁵Go not forth into the field, nor walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and fear is on every side.

²⁵ ما جرأت نداریم از شهر خارج شویم یا در جاده‌ها راه برویم، چون دشمنان ما مسلّح هستند و وحشت همه‌جا را فراگرفته است.»

²⁶O daughter of my people, gird thee with sackcloth, and wallow thyself in ashes: make thee mourning, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation: for the spoiler shall suddenly come upon us.

²⁶ خداوند به قوم خود می‌گوید: «پلاس برتن کنید و در خاکستر بغلتید. مثل کسی‌که تنها فرزندش را از دست داده باشد، با اشکهای تلخ ماتم بگیرید، چون او که قصد نابودی شما را دارد، به طور ناگهانی حمله خواهد کرد.

²⁷I have set thee for a tower and a fortress among my people, that thou mayest know and try their way.

²⁷ ای ارمیا، همان‌طور که فلز را محک می‌زنند، قوم مرا بیازما، و ببین چگونه‌اند.

²⁸They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters.

²⁸ آنها همه سرسخت و سرکش و مثل برنز و آهن سنگدل، و همه فاسد و سخن‌چین هستند.

²⁹The bellows are burned, the lead is consumed of the fire; the founder melteth in vain: for the wicked are not plucked away.

²⁹ کوره گرمای شدیدی دارد، امّا ناخالصی‌ها را نمی‌تواند ذوب کند و دور بریزد. پالایش قوم من بی‌فایده است چون شرارت و پلیدیهای آنها از بین نخواهد رفت. آنها تفاله‌های بی‌ارزشی بیش نیستند، چون من، خداوند آنها را طرد کرده‌ام.»

³⁰Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.

³⁰ آنها تفاله‌های بی‌ارزشی بیش نیستند، چون من، خداوند آنها را طرد کرده‌ام.»
