¹The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

¹ خداوند مرا به دروازهٔ معبد بزرگ، جایی که مردم یهودا برای عبادت می‌رفتند فرستاد. او به من گفت که آنجا بایستم و آنچه را که خداوند متعال، خدای ‌اسرائیل می‌خواست اعلام کنم و بگویم: «راههایی که می‌روید و کارهایی که انجام می‌دهید باید تغییر یابد. در آن صورت اجازه خواهم داد در اینجا به زندگی خود ادامه دهید.

²Stand in the gate of the LORD's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the LORD, all ye of Judah, that enter in at these gates to worship the LORD.

² دیگر این کلمات فریبنده را باور نکنید و نگویید، 'ما در اینجا، در معبد بزرگ خداوند در امن و امان هستیم، این معبد بزرگ خداوند است، این معبد بزرگ خداوند است!'

³Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place.

³ «روش زندگی خود را تغییر دهید، این کارها و روشها را دیگر ادامه ندهید و با یکدیگر از روی انصاف رفتار کنید.

⁴Trust ye not in lying words, saying, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, The temple of the LORD, are these.

⁴ حق غریبان، یتیمان و بیوه‌زنان را پایمال نکنید. از کشتن مردمان بی‌گناه در این سرزمین اجتناب کنید. خدایان دیگر را پرستش نکنید، چون این‌کار موجب نابودی شما خواهد شد.

⁵For if ye throughly amend your ways and your doings; if ye throughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbour;

⁵ اگر مسیر زندگی خود را تغییر دهید، من اجازه می‌دهم به زندگی خود، در این سرزمینی که برای همیشه به اجدادتان داده بودم، زندگی کنید.

⁶If ye oppress not the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and shed not innocent blood in this place, neither walk after other gods to your hurt:

⁶ «توجّه کنید، شما به سخنان فریبنده اعتماد کردید

⁷Then will I cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers, for ever and ever.

⁷ و مرتکب دزدی، قتل، و زنا می‌شوید، دروغتان را با سوگند راست جلوه می‌دهید. برای بعل قربانی می‌گذرانید و خدایانی را می‌پرستید که قبلاً نمی‌شناختید.

⁸Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.

⁸ کارهایی می‌کنید که من از آنها نفرت دارم و آنگاه به حضور من در معبد بزرگ خودم می‌آیید و می‌گویید: 'ما در امن و امان هستیم!'

⁹Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not;

⁹ آیا می‌پندارید معبد بزرگ من مخفیگاهی است برای دزدان؟ من آنچه را که شما می‌کنید دیده‌ام.

¹⁰And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

¹⁰ به شیلوه، اولین مکانی که برای پرستش خودم برگزیدم، نگاه کنید و ببینید به‌خاطر گناهان قوم خودم اسرائیل، آن را به چه روزی انداختم.

¹¹Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.

¹¹ شما مرتکب تمام این گناهان شده‌اید. هرچند بارها به شما گوشزد کردم، از شنیدن امتناع ورزیدید. وقتی شما را می‌خواندم، جواب نمی‌دادید.

¹²But go ye now unto my place which was in Shiloh, where I set my name at the first, and see what I did to it for the wickedness of my people Israel.

¹² پس من همان کاری را که با شیلوه کردم، با معبد بزرگ خودم که شما به آن اطمینان دارید، خواهم کرد. در اینجا، در این مکانی که آن را به اجداد شما و به خود شما دادم، من همان کاری را خواهم کرد که در شیلوه انجام دادم.

¹³And now, because ye have done all these works, saith the LORD, and I spake unto you, rising up early and speaking, but ye heard not; and I called you, but ye answered not;

¹³ من همهٔ شما را از نظرم دور خواهم کرد، همان‌طور که با قوم و خویشان شما یعنی با قوم اسرائیل رفتار نمودم. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»

¹⁴Therefore will I do unto this house, which is called by my name, wherein ye trust, and unto the place which I gave to you and to your fathers, as I have done to Shiloh.

¹⁴ خداوند گفت: «ای ارمیا، برای این مردم دعا نکن، به‌خاطر آنها گریه و شفاعت منما، من به تو گوش نخواهم داد.

¹⁵And I will cast you out of my sight, as I have cast out all your brethren, even the whole seed of Ephraim.

¹⁵ آیا نمی‌بینی آنها در شهرهای یهودا و در کوچه‌های اورشلیم چه می‌کنند؟

¹⁶Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

¹⁶ بچّه‌ها هیزم می‌‌آورند، مردان آتش می‌افروزند، زنها کلوچه‌هایی می‌پزند تا به الهه‌‌ای که آنها آن را ملکهٔ آسمان می‌نامند، تقدیم کنند. آنها همچنین به خدایان دیگر شراب تقدیم می‌کنند تا خشم مرا برانگیزانند.

¹⁷Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

¹⁷ امّا، آیا واقعاً این کارهای آنها به من آزار می‌رساند؟ نه، آنها فقط خودشان را می‌آزارند و رسوا می‌کنند.

¹⁸The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

¹⁸ پس این معبد بزرگ، این مردم و حیوانات آنها و حتّی درختان و محصولات زمین همه مورد غضب قرار خواهند گرفت. خشم من مثل آتشی است که کسی قادر به فرونشاندن آن نخواهد بود.

¹⁹Do they provoke me to anger? saith the LORD: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?

¹⁹ «ای قوم من، شما بعضی از قربانی‌ها را تماماً روی قربانگاه می‌سوزانید و برخی را اجازه دارید که بخورید. آنچه من، خداوند متعال به شما می‌گویم این است که می‌توانید تمام آن را بخورید.

²⁰Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.

²⁰ من به اجداد شما وقتی آنها را از سرزمین مصر بیرون آوردم هیچ‌ حکم و دستوری دربارهٔ قربانی‌های سوختنی نداده بودم.

²¹Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Put your burnt offerings unto your sacrifices, and eat flesh.

²¹ حکم من برای آنها این بود که از من اطاعت کنند تا من خدای آنها و آنها قوم من باشند. به ایشان گفتم همان‌طور زندگی کنند که من از آنها خواسته بودم تا زندگی بر وفق مرادشان باشد.

²²For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:

²² امّا آنها گوش ندادند و توجّهی نکردند. در عوض آنچه دلهای سرکش و شریر آنها می‌خواست، همان را انجام دادند و آنها به جای اینکه آدمهای بهتری شوند، بدتر شدند.

²³But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

²³ از روزی که اجداد شما از مصر بیرون آمدند تا به امروز من خادمان خودم، یعنی انبیا را برای شما فرستاده‌ام.

²⁴But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward.

²⁴ ولی هیچ‌کس به آنها گوش نداد و به پیامشان توجّهی نکرد. در عوض شما بیشتر از اجداد خود سرسخت و سرکش شده‌اید.

²⁵Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them:

²⁵ «پس ای ارمیا، تو تمام این چیزها را به قوم خواهی گفت، ولی آنها به تو گوش نخواهند داد. تو آنها را به سوی خود فرا خواهی خواند، امّا آنها پاسخی نخواهند داد.

²⁶Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.

²⁶ تو به آنها خواهی گفت که قومشان از من، خداوند، خدای خود اطاعت نمی‌کنند و از مجازات خودشان درس نمی‌گیرند. وفاداری ساقط شده و دیگر کسی حتّی دربارهٔ آن حرف نمی‌زند.

²⁷Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee.

²⁷ «ای مردم اورشلیم، ماتم بگیرید، موهای خود را بتراشید و دور بریزید. برفراز تپّه‌ها نوحه‌سرایی کنید، چون من، خداوند خشمگین هستم و نسل حاضر را طرد کرده‌ام

²⁸But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

²⁸ «مردم یهودا مرتکب شرارت شده‌اند. آنها بُتهای خود را، بُتهایی که من از آنها متنفّرم، در معبد مقدّس من گذاشته‌اند و آن را ناپاک ساخته‌اند.

²⁹Cut off thine hair, O Jerusalem, and cast it away, and take up a lamentation on high places; for the LORD hath rejected and forsaken the generation of his wrath.

²⁹ در درّهٔ هنوم قربانگاهی ساخته‌اند به نام توفت تا در آنجا پسران و دختران خود را در آتش قربانی کنند. من به آنها چنین حکمی نداده‌ بودم، چنین چیزی به فکر من خطور نکرده بود.

³⁰For the children of Judah have done evil in my sight, saith the LORD: they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.

³⁰ پس زمانی خواهد آمد که دیگر آن محل به نام توفت یا درّهٔ هنوم خوانده نخواهد شد، بلکه آن را به نام درّهٔ کشتارگاه خواهند شناخت. مردم را در آنجا دفن خواهند کرد، چون جای دیگری برای دفن آنها وجود نخواهد داشت.

³¹And they have built the high places of Tophet, which is in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to burn their sons and their daughters in the fire; which I commanded them not, neither came it into my heart.

³¹ آن اجساد طعمهٔ پرندگان و حیوانات وحشی خواهند شد و کسی نخواهد بود که آن حیوانات را بترساند. این سرزمین به یک بیابان مبدل می‌شود و من به صدای شادمانی و خوشی و به آوازهای نشاط‌انگیز جشن‌های عروسی در شهرهای یهودا و کوچه‌های اورشلیم پایان خواهم داد.

³²Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be called Tophet, nor the valley of the son of Hinnom, but the valley of slaughter: for they shall bury in Tophet, till there be no place.

³² این سرزمین به یک بیابان مبدل می‌شود و من به صدای شادمانی و خوشی و به آوازهای نشاط‌انگیز جشن‌های عروسی در شهرهای یهودا و کوچه‌های اورشلیم پایان خواهم داد.

³³And the carcases of this people shall be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth; and none shall fray them away.

³⁴Then will I cause to cease from the cities of Judah, and from the streets of Jerusalem, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride: for the land shall be desolate.
