¹Then answered Zophar the Naamathite, and said,

¹ آیا کسی به این سخنان پوچ و بیهوده جواب نمی‌دهد؟ آیا گزافه‌گویی، حق را به تو می‌دهد؟

²Should not the multitude of words be answered? and should a man full of talk be justified?

² آیا با یاوه‌گویی می‌توانی دیگران را ساکت گردانی؟ آیا می‌خواهی وقتی‌که دیگران را مسخره می‌‌کنی، آنها ساکت بمانند؟

³Should thy lies make men hold their peace? and when thou mockest, shall no man make thee ashamed?

³ تو ادّعا می‌‌کنی که سخنانت حقیقت دارند و در حضور خدا پاک هستی.

⁴For thou hast said, My doctrine is pure, and I am clean in thine eyes.

⁴ امّا ای کاش خدا لب به سخن بگشاید و جواب تو را بدهد

⁵But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;

⁵ و اسرار حکمت خود را برایت بیان کند، زیرا حکمت خدا جنبه‌های زیادی دارد که دانستن آنها برای انسان خیلی مشکل است. بدان که خدا تو را کمتر از آن چه که سزاوار هستی، جزا داده است.

⁶And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is! Know therefore that God exacteth of thee less than thine iniquity deserveth.

⁶ کسی نمی‌تواند حد و اندازهٔ عظمت و قدرت خدای قادر مطلق را درک کند.

⁷Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?

⁷ آسمان، خدا را محدود نمی‌کند، امّا فراتر از دسترس تو می‌باشد. خدا دنیای مردگان را می‌شناسد امّا تو نه.

⁸It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?

⁸ عظمت خدا وسیع‌تر از زمین و عمیقتر از دریاست

⁹The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

⁹ اگر خدا تو را بگیرد و محاکمه کند، چه کسی می‌تواند مانع او شود؟

¹⁰If he cut off, and shut up, or gather together, then who can hinder him?

¹⁰ زیرا کارهای هیچ‌کسی از او پوشیده نیست و می‌داند چه کسی گناهکار کیست.

¹¹For he knoweth vain men: he seeth wickedness also; will he not then consider it?

¹¹ شخص احمق وقتی حکیم می‌شود که الاغ وحشی انسانی بزاید.

¹²For vain men would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass's colt.

¹² اکنون اگر با قلب صاف و پاک، دست دعا به سوی خدا بلند کنی،

¹³If thou prepare thine heart, and stretch out thine hands toward him;

¹³ از بدی و گناه بپرهیزی و شرارت را به خانه‌ات راه ندهی،

¹⁴If iniquity be in thine hand, put it far away, and let not wickedness dwell in thy tabernacles.

¹⁴ آن وقت می‌توانی با سربلندی و با اطمینان کامل و بدون ترس، با دنیا روبه‌رو شوی.

¹⁵For then shalt thou lift up thy face without spot; yea, thou shalt be stedfast, and shalt not fear:

¹⁵ همهٔ مصیبتها را فراموش می‌‌کنی و آنها همچون آبِ رفته به‌خاطر نمی‌آیند.

¹⁶Because thou shalt forget thy misery, and remember it as waters that pass away:

¹⁶ زندگی‌ات درخشانتر از آفتاب نیمروز و تاریکی آن مثل صبح روشن می‌شود.

¹⁷And thine age shall be clearer than the noonday: thou shalt shine forth, thou shalt be as the morning.

¹⁷ با امید و اطمینان خاطر زندگی می‌‌کنی و در راحت و آسایش به سر می‌بری.

¹⁸And thou shalt be secure, because there is hope; yea, thou shalt dig about thee, and thou shalt take thy rest in safety.

¹⁸ از دشمنانت نخواهی ترسید؛ مردم بسیاری از تو کمک خواهند خواست. امّا چشمان بدکاران کور و راه گریز از هر سو به رویشان بسته می‌شود و تنها امیدشان مرگ می‌باشد.

¹⁹Also thou shalt lie down, and none shall make thee afraid; yea, many shall make suit unto thee.

¹⁹ امّا چشمان بدکاران کور و راه گریز از هر سو به رویشان بسته می‌شود و تنها امیدشان مرگ می‌باشد.

²⁰But the eyes of the wicked shall fail, and they shall not escape, and their hope shall be as the giving up of the ghost.
