¹And Job answered and said,

¹ آیا فکر می‌کنید که شما صدای همهٔ مردم هستید؟ و اگر بمیرید، حکمت هم با شما می‌میرد؟

²No doubt but ye are the people, and wisdom shall die with you.

² امّا بدانید که من هم به اندازهٔ شما عقل دارم و از شما کمتر نیستم. چیزهایی را که گفتید هرکسی می‌داند.

³But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: yea, who knoweth not such things as these?

³ در گذشته، هرگاه پیش خدا دعا می‌کردم، او دعای مرا اجابت می‌فرمود، امّا اکنون، درحالی‌که گناهی ندارم، حتّی دوستانم به من می‌خندند و مسخره‌ام می‌کنند.

⁴I am as one mocked of his neighbour, who calleth upon God, and he answereth him: the just upright man is laughed to scorn.

⁴ آنهایی که آسوده و آرامند به مصیبت‌زدگان توهین می‌کنند و به افتادگان لگد می‌زنند.

⁵He that is ready to slip with his feet is as a lamp despised in the thought of him that is at ease.

⁵ امّا خانهٔ دزدان و کسانی‌که خدا را خشمگین می‌سازند، در امان می‌باشند. آنها به قدرت خود متّکی هستند نه به خدا.

⁶The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.

⁶ چیزهایی را که شما می‌گویید، اگر از حیوانات بپرسید، به شما می‌آموزند. اگر از پرندگان سؤال کنید، به شما جواب می‌دهند. نباتات زمین برایتان بیان می‌کنند؛ و حتّی ماهیان به شما می‌گویند که دست پُر قدرت خدا همه‌چیز را آفریده است.

⁷But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:

⁷ زندگی هر موجود زنده و نَفَس تمام بشر در دست اوست.

⁸Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.

⁸ همان‌طور که با زبان مزهٔ غذاهای خوب را می‌چشیم با گوش هم کلام حقیقت را تشخیص می‌دهیم.

⁹Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?

⁹ اشخاص پیر دانا هستند، امّا خدا دانا و تواناست. اشخاص پیر بصیرت دارند، ولی خدا دارای بصیرت و قدرت است.

¹⁰In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

¹⁰ آنچه را که خدا خراب کند، هیچ‌کسی نمی‌تواند آباد نماید. اگر خدا کسی را به زندان بیاندازد، کسی نمی‌تواند او را آزاد کند.

¹¹Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?

¹¹ هرگاه باران را متوقّف سازد، زمین خشک می‌شود و اگر توفان را بفرستد، زمین را زیر آب غرق می‌کند.

¹²With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.

¹² بلی، خدا دانا و تواناست و اختیار فریب‌دهندگان و فریب‌خوردگان در دست اوست.

¹³With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.

¹³ او حکمت حاکمان را از ایشان می‌گیرد و کارهای رهبران را مانند احمقان می‌سازد.

¹⁴Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again: he shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.

¹⁴ پادشاهان را خلع و اسیر خود می‌کند.

¹⁵Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up: also he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.

¹⁵ کاهنان را حقیر و زورمندان را سرنگون می‌سازد.

¹⁶With him is strength and wisdom: the deceived and the deceiver are his.

¹⁶ قدرت سخن معتمدان و فهم اشخاص پیر را از بین می‌برد.

¹⁷He leadeth counsellors away spoiled, and maketh the judges fools.

¹⁷ حاکمان را ذلیل و زورمندان را حقیر می‌کند.

¹⁸He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle.

¹⁸ چیزهایی را که تاریک و مبهم هستند روشن می‌سازد.

¹⁹He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty.

¹⁹ به ملّتها قوّت و نیرو می‌بخشد و سپس آنها را از بین می‌برد. به تعدادشان می‌افزاید و سپس آنها را به دست دشمن می‌سپارد.

²⁰He removeth away the speech of the trusty, and taketh away the understanding of the aged.

²⁰ حکمت رهبران را از آنها می‌گیرد و آنها را در بیابان آواره می‌سازد. در تاریکی، کورمال‌کورمال راه می‌روند و مانند مستان، افتان و خیزان قدم می‌زنند.

²¹He poureth contempt upon princes, and weakeneth the strength of the mighty.

²²He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death.

²³He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again.

²⁴He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.

²⁵They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.
