¹And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you.

¹ اکنون ای کاهنان، این اخطار برای شماست:

²If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.

² خداوند متعال می‌فرماید «اگر به کلام من گوش ندهید و احترام مرا بجا نیاورید، به جای اینکه شما را برکت بدهم، لعنت خواهم کرد، در حقیقت از همین حالا من شما را لعنت کرده‌ام، زیرا کلام مرا در دل خود جا نمی‌دهید.

³Behold, I will corrupt your seed, and spread dung upon your faces, even the dung of your solemn feasts; and one shall take you away with it.

³ فرزندان شما را تنبیه می‌کنم، و سرگین حیواناتی را که برای من قربانی می‌کنید به صورتتان می‌پاشم و شما را به تودهٔ سرگین می‌اندازم.

⁴And ye shall know that I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.

⁴ آنگاه خواهید دانست که من این فرمان را به شما دادم تا پیمانی را که با کاهنان، فرزندان لاوی بسته بودم، شکسته نشود.

⁵My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name.

⁵ «در آن پیمان به جدّ شما، لاوی قول دادم که به آنها حیات و آرامش بدهم و دادم چون آنها از نام من می‌ترسیدند و به من احترام می‌گذاشتند.

⁶The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.

⁶ آنها حقیقت و راستی را به مردم تعلیم دادند و از زبانشان حرف نادرست شنیده نمی‌شد. آنها از من پیروی نموده و در راستی زندگی می‌کردند و عدّهٔ زیادی را به راه راست هدایت نمودند.

⁷For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.

⁷ چون کاهنان سخنگوی خداوند هستند، باید به مردم حقیقت و معرفت را تعلیم بدهند تا مردم طریق راستی را از آنها بیاموزند.

⁸But ye are departed out of the way; ye have caused many to stumble at the law; ye have corrupted the covenant of Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.

⁸ «امّا شما کاهنان از راه راست منحرف شده و با تعالیم غلط، سبب گمراهی عدّهٔ زیادی گشته‌اید. شما پیمانی را که با پدر شما لاوی بسته بودم، شکسته‌اید.

⁹Therefore have I also made you contemptible and base before all the people, according as ye have not kept my ways, but have been partial in the law.

⁹ پس، من شما را در نظر همهٔ مردم اسرائیل خوار و حقیر می‌سازم، زیرا دستورات مرا انجام نمی‌دهید، بلکه در اجرای قوانین بی‌عدالتی می‌نمایید.»

¹⁰Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?

¹⁰ ‌آیا همهٔ ما از یک پدر نیستیم؟ آیا همهٔ ما را خدا نیافریده است؟ پس چرا به یکدیگر خیانت می‌کنیم و پیمانی را که خداوند با اجداد ما بست، می‌شکنیم؟

¹¹Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Jerusalem; for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.

¹¹ مردم یهودا خیانت کردند و در اورشلیم و شهرهای یهودا مرتکب کارهای زشتی شدند. مردم یهودا معبد بزرگی را که محبوب خداست بی‌حرمت ساختند و با دختران بت‌پرست ازدواج کردند.

¹²The LORD will cut off the man that doeth this, the master and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering unto the LORD of hosts.

¹² باشد که خداوند تمام کسانی را که این کارها را انجام داده‌اند، از میان قوم اسرائیل محو کند و هرگز دوباره به آنها اجازه ندهد تا در میان قوم، برای خداوند متعال قربانی بگذرانند.

¹³And this have ye done again, covering the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping, and with crying out, insomuch that he regardeth not the offering any more, or receiveth it with good will at your hand.

¹³ شما همچنین قربانگاه خداوند را با اشکهایتان پُر می‌سازید و ناله و زاری می‌کنید، زیرا او دیگر قربانی‌هایی را که شما می‌آورید، نمی‌پذیرد.

¹⁴Yet ye say, Wherefore? Because the LORD hath been witness between thee and the wife of thy youth, against whom thou hast dealt treacherously: yet is she thy companion, and the wife of thy covenant.

¹⁴ می‌پرسید: «چرا او قربانی‌های ما را قبول نمی‌کند؟» چون شما پیمانی را که با همسرتان، که در جوانی با او ازدواج کردید شکستید و خداوند شاهد این پیمان شکنی می‌باشد.

¹⁵And did not he make one? Yet had he the residue of the spirit. And wherefore one? That he might seek a godly seed. Therefore take heed to your spirit, and let none deal treacherously against the wife of his youth.

¹⁵ آیا خدا شما را یک تن نساخت؟ آیا در جسم و در روح شما یک نیستید؟ اینک خدا از شما چه انتظاری دارد؟ اینکه فرزندان خداشناس داشته باشید. پس مواظب باشید که به همسرتان خیانت نکنید.

¹⁶For the LORD, the God of Israel, saith that he hateth putting away: for one covereth violence with his garment, saith the LORD of hosts: therefore take heed to your spirit, that ye deal not treacherously.

¹⁶ خداوند، خدای اسرائیل می‌فرماید: «من از طلاق نفرت دارم. همچنین از کسی‌که در حق زن خود ظلم می‌کند. پس مواظب باشید که به همسرتان خیانت نکنید.» شما با حرفهای خود خداوند را خسته‌ ساخته‌اید امّا می‌پرسید: «چگونه او را خسته ساخته‌ایم؟» با سخنانی که می‌گویید: «خداوند از کسانی‌که کارهای بد می‌کنند راضی است و آنها را دوست می‌دارد.» یا می‌پرسید: «آن خدای عادل کجاست؟»

¹⁷Ye have wearied the LORD with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the LORD, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?

¹⁷ شما با حرفهای خود خداوند را خسته‌ ساخته‌اید امّا می‌پرسید: «چگونه او را خسته ساخته‌ایم؟» با سخنانی که می‌گویید: «خداوند از کسانی‌که کارهای بد می‌کنند راضی است و آنها را دوست می‌دارد.» یا می‌پرسید: «آن خدای عادل کجاست؟»
