¹My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

¹ ای پسر من، هرچه به تو تعلیم می‌دهم یاد بگیر و آنچه به تو دستور می‌دهم، فراموش مکن.

²So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

² به سخنان حکیمانه گوش بده و کوشش کن تا آنها را یاد بگیری.

³Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

³ بینش را طلب نما و دانایی را جستجو کن.

⁴If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

⁴ همان‌طور که برای به ‌دست آوردن پول و پیدا کردن گنج زحمت می‌کشی، برای تحصیل حکمت تلاش نما.

⁵Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

⁵ اگر چنین کنی، معنی ترس از خداوند را می‌فهمی و در شناختن خدا موفّق می‌شوی.

⁶For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.

⁶ خداوند بخشندهٔ حکمت است و عقل و دانایی از جانب اوست.

⁷He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly.

⁷ او نیکوکاران را پیروزی می‌بخشد و از آنها پشتیبانی می‌کند.

⁸He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.

⁸ او کسانی را که با دیگران با عدل و انصاف رفتار می‌کنند، محافظت ‌نموده و از کسانی‌که خود را وقف او نموده‌اند، حمایت می‌کند.

⁹Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

⁹ اگر به من گوش بدهی، راستی و عدالت و انصاف را خواهی شناخت و راه زندگی را پیدا خواهی کرد.

¹⁰When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

¹⁰ شخص حکیمی می‌شوی و از عقل خود شادمان می‌گردی.

¹¹Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

¹¹ عقل و دانایی تو، از تو محافظت خواهد کرد

¹²To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things;

¹² و تو را از دست شریر و آنهایی که می‌خواهند با سخنان خود تو را فریب بدهند، نجات خواهد داد؛

¹³Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;

¹³ یعنی کسانی‌که راه راست را ترک می‌کنند تا در ظلمت گناه زندگی نمایند.

¹⁴Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked;

¹⁴ از کارهای زشت خود خوشحالند و از دروغهای شرارت‌آمیز خود لذّت می‌برند.

¹⁵Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths:

¹⁵ این افراد ناپایدارند و راه کج را در پیش گرفته‌اند.

¹⁶To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words;

¹⁶ حکمت، تو را از زنا و سخنان فریبندهٔ زنان بدکاره محافظت می‌کند.

¹⁷Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.

¹⁷ زنانی که به شوهران خود خیانت کرده و پیمان مقدّس خود را فراموش نموده‌اند.

¹⁸For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead.

¹⁸ اگر به خانهٔ آنها داخل شوی، به جادهٔ مرگ قدم گذاشته‌ای. رفتن به آنجا، وارد شدن به دنیای مردگان است.

¹⁹None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life.

¹⁹ کسانی‌که نزد چنین زنانی می‌روند، هیچ‌وقت باز نمی‌گردند و هرگز به راه حیات بازگشت نمی‌کنند.

²⁰That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous.

²⁰ بنابراین، باید از مردم نیکوکار پیروی کنی و زندگی مردم عادل را انتخاب نمایی.

²¹For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.

²¹ مردم نیک و کامل، در این زمین باقی خواهند ماند. امّا مردمان شریر نابود خواهند گردید. ریشهٔ خیانت‌کاران از زمین کنده خواهد شد.

²²But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.

²² امّا مردمان شریر نابود خواهند گردید. ریشهٔ خیانت‌کاران از زمین کنده خواهد شد.
