¹Call now, if there be any that will answer thee; and to which of the saints wilt thou turn?

¹Strigă acum! Cine îţi va răspunde? Căruia dintre sfinţi îi vei vorbi?

²For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.

²Nebunul piere ucis de mînia lui, prostul moare ucis de aprinderea lui.

³I have seen the foolish taking root: but suddenly I cursed his habitation.

³Am văzut pe un nebun prinzînd rădăcină; apoi deodată i-am blestemat locuinţa.

⁴His children are far from safety, and they are crushed in the gate, neither is there any to deliver them.

⁴Fiii lui n'au noroc, sînt călcaţi în picioare la poartă, şi nimeni nu i scapă!

⁵Whose harvest the hungry eateth up, and taketh it even out of the thorns, and the robber swalloweth up their substance.

⁵Secerişul lui este mîncat de cei flămînzi, cari vin să -l ia chiar şi din spini, şi averile lui sînt înghiţite de oameni însetaţi.

⁶Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;

⁶Nenorocirea nu răsare din ţărînă, şi suferinţa nu încolţeşte din pămînt.

⁷Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

⁷Omul se naşte ca să sufere, după cum scînteia se naşte ca să zboare.

⁸I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:

⁸Eu aş alerga la Dumnezeu, lui Dumnezeu i-aş spune necazul meu.

⁹Which doeth great things and unsearchable; marvellous things without number:

⁹El face lucruri mari şi nepătrunse, minuni fără număr.

¹⁰Who giveth rain upon the earth, and sendeth waters upon the fields:

¹⁰El varsă ploaia pe pămînt, şi trimete apă pe cîmpii.

¹¹To set up on high those that be low; that those which mourn may be exalted to safety.

¹¹El înalţă pe cei smeriţi, şi izbăveşte pe cei necăjiţi.

¹²He disappointeth the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.

¹²El nimiceşte planurile oamenilor vicleni, şi mînile lor nu pot să le împlinească.

¹³He taketh the wise in their own craftiness: and the counsel of the froward is carried headlong.

¹³El prinde pe cei înţelepţi în viclenia lor, şi planurile oamenilor înşelători sînt răsturnate:

¹⁴They meet with darkness in the day time, and grope in the noonday as in the night.

¹⁴dau peste întunerec în mijlocul zilei, bîjbăie ziua nameaza mare ca noaptea.

¹⁵But he saveth the poor from the sword, from their mouth, and from the hand of the mighty.

¹⁵Astfel, Dumnezeu ocroteşte pe cel slab împotriva ameninţărilor lor, şi -l scapă din mîna celor puternici.

¹⁶So the poor hath hope, and iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

¹⁶Aşa încît nădejdea sprijineşte pe cel nenorocit, iar fărădelegea îşi închide gura.

¹⁷Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:

¹⁷Ferice de omul pe care -l ceartă Dumnezeu! Nu nesocoti mustrarea Celui Atot Puternic.

¹⁸For he maketh sore, and bindeth up: he woundeth, and his hands make whole.

¹⁸El face rana, şi tot El o leagă; El răneşte, şi mîna Lui tămăduieşte.

¹⁹He shall deliver thee in six troubles: yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

¹⁹De şase ori te va izbăvi din necaz, şi de şapte ori nu te va atinge răul.

²⁰In famine he shall redeem thee from death: and in war from the power of the sword.

²⁰El te va scăpa de moarte în vreme de foamete, şi de loviturile săbiei în vreme de război.

²¹Thou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue: neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

²¹Vei fi la adăpost de biciul limbii, vei fi fără teamă cînd va veni pustiirea.

²²At destruction and famine thou shalt laugh: neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

²²Vei rîde de pustiire ca şi de foamete, şi nu vei avea să te temi de fiarele pămîntului.

²³For thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field: and the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

²³Căci vei face legămînt pînă şi cu pietrele cîmpului, şi fiarele pămîntului vor fi în pace cu tine.

²⁴And thou shalt know that thy tabernacle shall be in peace; and thou shalt visit thy habitation, and shalt not sin.

²⁴Vei avea fericire în cortul tău, îţi vei găsi turmele întregi,

²⁵Thou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, and thine offspring as the grass of the earth.

²⁵îţi vei vedea sămînţa crescîndu-ţi, şi odraslele înmulţindu-se ca iarba de pe cîmp.

²⁶Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, like as a shock of corn cometh in in his season.

²⁶Vei intra în mormînt la bătrîneţă, ca snopul strîns la vremea lui.

²⁷Lo this, we have searched it, so it is; hear it, and know thou it for thy good.

²⁷Iată ce am cercetat, şi aşa este! Ascultă, că sînt spre folosul tău!``
