¹The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

¹Pildele lui Solomon. Un fiu înţelept este bucuria tatălui, dar un fiu nebun este mîhnirea mamei sale.

²Treasures of wickedness profit nothing: but righteousness delivereth from death.

²Comorile cîştigate pe nedrept nu folosesc, dar neprihănirea izbăveşte dela moarte.

³The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.

³Domnul nu lasă pe cel neprihănit să sufere de foame, dar îndepărtează pofta celor răi.

⁴He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

⁴Cine lucrează cu o mînă leneşă sărăceşte, dar mîna celor harnici îmbogăţeşte.

⁵He that gathereth in summer is a wise son: but he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

⁵Cine strînge vara, este un om chibzuit, cine doarme în timpul seceratului este un om care face ruşine.

⁶Blessings are upon the head of the just: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

⁶Pe capul celui neprihănit sînt binecuvîntări, dar gura celor răi ascunde sîlnicie.

⁷The memory of the just is blessed: but the name of the wicked shall rot.

⁷Pomenirea celui neprihănit este binecuvîntată, dar numele celor răi putrezeşte. -

⁸The wise in heart will receive commandments: but a prating fool shall fall.

⁸Cine are o inimă înţeleaptă primeşte învăţăturile, dar cine are o gură nesocotită se prăpădeşte singur. -

⁹He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

⁹Cine umblă fără prihană, umblă fără teamă, dar cine apucă pe căi strîmbe se dă singur de gol. -

¹⁰He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow: but a prating fool shall fall.

¹⁰Cine clipeşte din ochi este o pricină de întristare, şi cine are o gură nesocotită se prăpădeşte singur. -

¹¹The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life: but violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

¹¹Gura celui neprihănit este un izvor de viaţă, dar gura celor răi ascunde sîlnicie. -

¹²Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

¹²Ura stîrneşte certuri, dar dragostea acopere toate greşelile. -

¹³In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found: but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

¹³Pe buzele omului priceput se află înţelepciunea, dar nuiaua este pentru spatele celui fără minte. -

¹⁴Wise men lay up knowledge: but the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

¹⁴Înţelepţii păstrează ştiinţa, dar gura nebunului este o pieire apropiată. -

¹⁵The rich man's wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

¹⁵Averea este o cetate întărită pentru cel bogat; dar prăpădirea celor nenorociţi, este sărăcia lor. -

¹⁶The labour of the righteous tendeth to life: the fruit of the wicked to sin.

¹⁶Cel neprihănit îşi întrebuinţează cîştigul pentru viaţă, iar cel rău îşi întrebuinţează venitul pentru păcat. -

¹⁷He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth reproof erreth.

¹⁷Cine îşi aduce aminte de certare apucă pe calea vieţii; dar cel ce uită mustrarea apucă pe căi greşite. -

¹⁸He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.

¹⁸Cine ascunde ura, are buze mincinoase, şi cine răspîndeşte bîrfelile este un nebun. -

¹⁹In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.

¹⁹Cine vorbeşte mult nu se poate să nu păcătuiască, dar cel ce-şi ţine buzele, este un om chibzuit. -

²⁰The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth.

²⁰Limba celui neprihănit este argint ales; inima celor răi este puţin lucru. -

²¹The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

²¹Buzele celui neprihănit înviorează pe mulţi oameni, dar nebunii mor fiindcă n'au judecată. -

²²The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

²²Binecuvîntarea Domnului îmbogăţeşte, şi El nu lasă să fie urmată de niciun necaz. -

²³It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

²³Pentru cel nebun este o plăcere să facă răul, dar pentru cel înţelept este o plăcere să lucreze cu pricepere. -

²⁴The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

²⁴Celui rău de ce se teme aceea i se întîmplă, dar celor neprihăniţi li se împlineşte dorinţa. -

²⁵As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

²⁵Cum trece vîrtejul, aşa piere cel rău; dar cel neprihănit are temelii vecinice. -

²⁶As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

²⁶Cum este oţetul pentru dinţi şi fumul pentru ochi, aşa este leneşul pentru cel ce -l trimete. -

²⁷The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

²⁷Frica de Domnul lungeşte zilele, dar anii celui rău sînt scurtaţi. -

²⁸The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

²⁸Aşteptarea celor neprihăniţi nu va fi decît bucurie, dar nădejdea celor răi va pieri. -

²⁹The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

²⁹Calea Domnului este un zid de apărare pentru cel nevinovat, dar este o topenie pentru cei ce fac răul. -

³⁰The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.

³⁰Cel neprihănit nu se va clătina niciodată, dar cei răi nu vor locui în ţară. -

³¹The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

³¹Gura celui neprihănit scoate înţelepciune, dar limba stricată va fi nimicită. -

³²The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.

³²Buzele celui neprihănit ştiu să vorbească lucruri plăcute, dar gura celor răi spune răutăţi.
