¹A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

²A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

²Prin rodul gurii ai parte de bine, dar cei stricaţi au parte de sîlnicie. -

³He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

³Cine-şi păzeşte gura, îşi păzeşte sufletul; cine-şi deschide buzele mari aleargă spre pieirea lui. -

⁴The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

⁴Leneşul doreşte mult, şi totuş, n'are nimic, dar cei harnici se satură. -

⁵A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

⁵Cel neprihănit urăşte cuvintele mincinoase, dar cel rău se face urît şi se acoperă de ruşine. -

⁶Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

⁶Neprihănirea păzeşte pe cel nevinovat, dar răutatea aduce pierzarea păcătosului. -

⁷There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

⁷Unul face pe bogatul, şi n'are nimic, altul face pe săracul, şi are totuş mari avuţii, -

⁸The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

⁸Omul cu bogăţia lui îşi răscumpără viaţa, dar săracul n'ascultă mustrarea. -

⁹The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

⁹Lumina celor neprihăniţi arde voioasă, dar candela celor răi se stinge. -

¹⁰Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

¹⁰Prin mîndrie se aţîţă numai certuri, dar înţelepciunea este cu cel ce ascultă sfaturile. -

¹¹Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

¹¹Bogăţia cîştigată fără trudă scade, dar ce se strînge încetul cu încetul, creşte. -

¹²Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

¹²O nădejde amînată îmbolnăveşte inima, dar o dorinţă împlinită este un pom de viaţă. -

¹³Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

¹³Cine nesocoteşte Cuvîntul Domnului se pierde, dar cine se teme de poruncă este răsplătit. -

¹⁴The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

¹⁴Învăţătura înţeleptului este un izvor de viaţă, ca să abată pe om din cursele morţii. -

¹⁵Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

¹⁵O minte sănătoasă cîştigă bunăvoinţă, dar calea celor stricaţi este pietroasă. -

¹⁶Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

¹⁶Orice om chibzuit lucrează cu cunoştinţă, dar nebunul îşi dă la iveală nebunia. -

¹⁷A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

¹⁷Un sol rău cade în nenorocire, dar un sol credincios aduce tămăduire. -

¹⁸Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

¹⁸Sărăcia şi ruşinea sînt partea celui ce leapădă certarea, dar cel ce ia seama la mustrare este pus în cinste. -

¹⁹The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

¹⁹Împlinirea unei dorinţe este dulce sufletului, dar celor nebuni le este urît să se lase de rău. -

²⁰He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

²⁰Cine umblă cu înţelepţii se face înţelept, dar cui îi place să se însoţească cu nebunii o duce rău. -

²¹Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

²¹Nenorocirea urmăreşte pe cei ce păcătuiesc, dar cei neprihăniţi vor fi răsplătiţi cu fericire.

²²A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

²²Omul de bine lasă moştenitori pe copiii copiilor săi, dar bogăţiile păcătosului sînt păstrate pentru cel neprihănit. -

²³Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

²³Ogorul pe care -l desţelineşte săracul dă o hrană îmbelşugată, dar mulţi pier din pricina nedreptăţii lor. -

²⁴He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

²⁴Cine cruţă nuiaua, urăşte pe fiul său, dar cine -l iubeşte, îl pedepseşte îndată. -

²⁵The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

²⁵Cel neprihănit mănîncă pînă se satură, dar pîntecele celor răi duce lipsă. -
