¹⁷He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.

¹⁷Un trecător care se amestecă într'o ceartă care nu -l priveşte, este ca unul care apucă un cîne de urechi.

¹⁸As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death,

¹⁸Ca nebunul care aruncă săgeţi aprise şi ucigătoare,

¹⁹So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport?

¹⁹aşa este omul care înşală pe aproapele său, şi apoi zice: ,,Am vrut doar să glumesc!`` -

²⁰Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth.

²⁰Cînd nu mai sînt lemne, focul se stinge; şi cînd nu mai este niciun clevetitor, cearta se potoleşte.

²¹As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

²¹După cum cărbunele face jăratic, şi lemnul foc, tot aşa şi omul gîlcevitor aprinde cearta.

²⁴He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;

²⁴Celce urăşte se preface cu buzele lui, şi înlăuntrul lui pregăteşte înşelăciunea.

²⁵When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.

²⁵Cînd îţi vorbeşte cu glas dulce, nu -l crede, căci şapte urîciuni sînt în inima lui.
