¹The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.

²For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.

²Cînd este răscoală într'o ţară, sînt mulţi capi, dar cu un om priceput şi încercat, domnia dăinueşte. -

³A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a sweeping rain which leaveth no food.

³Un om sărac care apasă pe cei obijduiţi, este ca o rupere de nori care aduce lipsă de pîne. -

⁴They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but such as keep the law contend with them.

⁴Ceice părăsesc legea, laudă pe cel rău, dar ceice păzesc legea se mînie pe el. -

⁵Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seek the LORD understand all things.

⁵Oamenii dedaţi la rău nu înţeleg ce este drept, dar ceice caută pe Domnul înţeleg totul. -

⁶Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness, than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be rich.

⁶Mai mult preţuieşte săracul care umblă în neprihănirea lui, decît bogatul care umblă pe căi sucite. -

⁷Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.

⁷Celce păzeşte legea, este un fiu priceput, dar celce umblă cu cei desfrînaţi face ruşine tatălui său. -

⁸He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity the poor.

⁸Cine îşi înmulţeşte avuţiile prin dobîndă şi camătă, le strînge pentru celce are milă de săraci. -

⁹He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer shall be abomination.

⁹Dacă cineva îşi întoarce urechea ca să n'asculte legea, chiar şi rugăciunea lui este o scîrbă. -

¹⁰Whoso causeth the righteous to go astray in an evil way, he shall fall himself into his own pit: but the upright shall have good things in possession.

¹⁰Cine rătăceşte pe oamenii fără prihană pe calea cea rea, cade în groapa pe care a săpat -o, dar oamenii fără prihană moştenesc fericirea. -

¹¹The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.

¹¹Omul bogat se crede înţelept, dar săracul care este priceput îl cercetează. -

¹²When righteous men do rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden.

¹²Cînd biruiesc cei neprihăniţi, este o mare slavă, dar cînd se înalţă cei răi, fiecare se ascunde. -

¹³He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.

¹³Cine îşi ascunde fărădelegile, nu propăşeşte, dar cine le mărturiseşte şi se lasă de ele, capătă îndurare. -

¹⁴Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.

¹⁴Ferice de omul care se teme necontenit, dar cel ce-şi împietreşte inima cade în nenorocire. -

¹⁵As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

¹⁵Ca un leu care răcneşte şi ca un urs flămînd, aşa este cel rău care stăpîneşte peste un popor sărac. -

¹⁶The prince that wanteth understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.

¹⁶Un voivod fără pricepere îşi înmulţeşte faptele de asuprire, dar cel ce urăşte lăcomia îşi lungeşte zilele. -

¹⁷A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.

¹⁷Un om al cărui cuget este încărcat cu sîngele altuia, fuge pînă la groapă: nimeni să nu -l oprească. -

¹⁸Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.

¹⁸Cine umblă în neprihănire, găseşte mîntuirea, dar cine umblă pe două căi strîmbe cade într'o groapă. -

¹⁹He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.

¹⁹Cine îşi lucrează cîmpul are belşug de pîne, dar cine aleargă după lucruri de nimic are belşug de sărăcie. -

²⁰A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.

²⁰Un om credincios este năpădit de binecuvîntări, dar celce vrea să se îmbogăţească repede nu rămîne nepedepsit. -

²¹To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

²¹Nu este bine să cauţi la faţa oamenilor; chiar pentru o bucată de pîne poate un om să se dedea la păcat. -

²²He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.

²²Un om pizmaş se grăbeşte să se îmbogăţească, şi nu ştie că lipsa va veni peste el. -

²³He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.

²³Cine mustră pe alţii, găseşte mai multă bunăvoinţă pe urmă, decît cel cu limba linguşitoare. -

²⁴Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer.

²⁴Cine fură pe tatăl său şi pe mama sa, şi zice că nu este un păcat, este tovarăş cu nimicitorul. -

²⁵He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

²⁵Cel lacom stîrneşte certuri, dar celce se încrede în Domnul este săturat din belşug. -

²⁶He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

²⁶Cine se încrede în inima lui este un nebun, dar cine umblă în înţelepciune va fi mîntuit. -

²⁷He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.

²⁷Cine dă săracului, nu duce lipsă, dar cine închide ochii, este încărcat cu blesteme. -

²⁸When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: but when they perish, the righteous increase.

²⁸Cînd se înalţă cei răi, fiecare se ascunde, dar cînd pier ei, cei buni se înmulţesc. -
