¹My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:

¹Fiule, ia aminte la înţelepciunea mea, şi pleacă urechea la învăţătura mea,

²That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.

²ca să fii cu chibzuinţă, şi buzele tale să aibă cunoştinţă.

³For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:

³Căci buzele femeii străine strecoară miere, şi cerul gurii ei este mai lunecos decît untdelemnul;

⁴But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a two-edged sword.

⁴dar la urmă este amară ca pelinul, ascuţită ca o sabie cu două tăişuri.

⁵Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.

⁵Picioarele ei pogoară la moarte, paşii ei dau în locuinţa morţilor.

⁶Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

⁶Aşa că ea nu poate găsi calea vieţii, rătăceşte în căile ei, şi nu ştie unde merge.

⁷Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.

⁷Şi acum, fiilor, ascultaţi-mă, şi nu vă abateţi dela cuvintele gurii mele:

⁸Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:

⁸depărtează-te de drumul care duce la ea, şi nu te apropia de uşa casei ei,

⁹Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:

⁹ca nu cumva să-ţi dai altora vlaga ta, şi unui om fără milă anii tăi;

¹⁰Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger;

¹⁰ca nu cumva nişte străini să se sature de averea ta, şi tu să te trudeşti pentru casa altuia;

¹¹And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed,

¹¹ca nu cumva să gemi, la urmă, cînd carnea şi trupul ţi se vor istovi,

¹²And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

¹²şi să zici: ,,Cum am putut eu să urăsc certarea, şi cum a dispreţuit inima mea mustrarea?

¹³And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me!

¹³Cum am putut să n'ascult glasul învăţătorilor mei, şi să nu iau aminte la ceice mă învăţau?

¹⁴I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

¹⁴Cît pe ce să mă nenorocesc de tot în mijlocul poporului şi adunării!``

¹⁵Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.

¹⁵Bea apă din fîntîna ta, şi din izvoarele puţului tău.

¹⁶Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

¹⁶Ce, vrei să ţi se verse izvoarele afară? Şi să-ţi curgă rîurile pe pieţele de obşte?

¹⁷Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee.

¹⁷Lasă-le să fie numai pentru tine, şi nu pentru străinii de lîngă tine.

¹⁸Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

¹⁸Izvorul tău să fie binecuvîntat, şi bucură-te de nevasta tinereţii tale.

¹⁹Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love.

¹⁹Cerboaică iubită, căprioară plăcută: fii îmbătat tot timpul de drăgălăşiile ei, fii îndrăgostit necurmat de dragostea ei!

²⁰And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger?

²⁰Şi pentruce, fiule, ai fi îndrăgostit de o străină, şi ai îmbrăţişa sînul unei necunoscute?

²¹For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings.

²¹Căci căile omului sînt lămurite înaintea ochilor Domnului, şi El vede toate cărările lui.

²²His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.

²²Cel rău este prins în înseşi nelegiuirile lui, şi este apucat de legăturile păcatului lui.

²³He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.

²³El va muri din lipsă de înfrînare, se va poticni din prea multa lui nebunie.
