¹Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

¹A bol istý nemocný, Lazar z Betánie, z mestečka Márie a Marty, jej sestry.

²(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

²To bola tá Mária, ktorá pomazala Pána masťou a poutierala jeho nohy svojimi vlasmi, ktorej brat, Lazar, bol teraz nemocný.

³Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

³Vtedy poslaly k nemu tie sestry a odkázaly mu: Pane, hľa, ten, ktorého máš rád, je nemocný.

⁴When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

⁴A keď to počul Ježiš, povedal: Tá nemoc nie je na smrť, ale na slávu Božiu, aby ňou bol Syn Boží oslávený.

⁵Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

⁵A Ježiš miloval Martu i jej sestru i Lazara.

⁶When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.

⁶Ako tedy počul, že je nemocný, vtedy zostal na mieste, na ktorom bol, dva dni.

⁷Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.

⁷Až potom povedal učeníkom: Poďme zase do Judska.

⁸His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?

⁸A učeníci mu povedali: Rabbi, len teraz ťa hľadali Židia ukameňovať, a zase ta ideš?

⁹Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

⁹Ježiš odpovedal: Či nie je dvanásť hodín dňa? Ak niekto chodí vodne, nezavadí, lebo vidí svetlo tohoto sveta;

¹⁰But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

¹⁰ale ak niekto chodí vnoci, zavadí, lebo niet v ňom svetla.

¹¹These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

¹¹To povedal a potom im riekol: Lazar, náš priateľ, usnul; ale idem, aby som ho zobudil zo sna.

¹²Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.

¹²Vtedy mu povedali učeníci: Pane, ak usnul, ozdravie.

¹³Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

¹³Ale Ježiš povedal o jeho smrti, a oni sa domnievali, že hovorí o spánku sna.

¹⁴Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

¹⁴A tak vtedy im povedal Ježiš otvorene: Lazar zomrel,

¹⁵And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.

¹⁵a radujem sa pre vás, že som tam nebol, aby ste uverili. Ale poďme za ním!

¹⁶Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.

¹⁶Vtedy povedal Tomáš, zvaný Didymus, spoluučeníkom: Poďme aj my, aby sme zomreli s ním!

¹⁷Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.

¹⁷A tak keď prišiel Ježiš, našiel ho už štyri dni ležať v hrobe.

¹⁸Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:

¹⁸A Betánia bola blízko Jeruzalema, nejakých pätnásť honov.

¹⁹And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.

¹⁹A mnohí zo Židov boli prišli k Marte a Márii, aby ich potešili ohľadom ich brata.

²⁰Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.

²⁰Vtedy Marta, ako počula, že ide Ježiš, vyšla proti nemu, ale Mária sedela doma.

²¹Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

²¹Vtedy povedala Marta Ježišovi: Pane, keby si tu bol býval, môj brat by nebol zomrel.

²²But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.

²²Ale aj teraz viem, že všetko, za čokoľvek by si požiadal Boha, dá ti Bôh.

²³Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.

²³Ježiš jej povedal: Tvoj brat vstane.

²⁴Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

²⁴A Marta mu povedala: Viem, že vstane pri vzkriesení, v posledný deň.

²⁵Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

²⁵Ježiš jej povedal: Ja som vzkriesenie i život; ten, kto verí vo mňa, aj keby zomrel, žiť bude.

²⁶And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

²⁶A nikto, kto žije a verí vo mňa, nezomrie na veky; či veríš tomu?

²⁷She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

²⁷Riekla mu: Áno, pane; ja som uverila, že si ty Kristus, ten Syn Boží, ktorý mal prijsť na svet.

²⁸And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.

²⁸A keď to povedala, odišla a zavolala Máriu, svoju sestru, tajne, povediac: Učiteľ je tu a volá ťa.

²⁹As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.

²⁹A tá, jako to počula, vstala rýchle a išla za ním.

³⁰Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.

³⁰A Ježiš nebol ešte prišiel do mestečka, ale bol ešte na mieste, kde bola vyšla proti nemu Marta.

³¹The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.

³¹Vtedy Židia, ktorí boli s ňou v dome a tešili ju, vidiac Máriu, že vstala rýchle a vyšla, išli za ňou domnievajúc sa, že ide k hrobu, aby tam plakala.

³²Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

³²Vtedy Mária, ako prišla ta, kde bol Ježiš, a videla ho, padla k jeho nohám a povedala mu: Pane, keby si tu bol býval, môj brat by nebol zomrel.

³³When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled.

³³Vtedy Ježiš, keď ju videl, že plače, aj Židov, ktorí prišli s ňou, že plačú, zovrel duchom a zachvel sa

³⁴And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.

³⁴a povedal: Kde ste ho položili? A oni mu povedali: Pane, poď a pozri!

³⁵Jesus wept.

³⁵A Ježiš zaplakal.

³⁶Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!

³⁶Vtedy vraveli Židia: Hľa, jako ho mal rád!

³⁷And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?

³⁷A niektorí z nich povedali: Či nemohol tento, ktorý otvoril oči slepého, učiniť aj to, aby tento nezomrel?

³⁸Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

³⁸Vtedy znova zovrel v sebe Ježiš a prišiel k hrobu. A bola to jaskyňa, a kameň ležal na nej.

³⁹Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.

³⁹Ježiš povedal: Zodvihnite kameň! A Marta, sestra zomrelého, mu povedala: Pane, už smrdí, lebo je už štyri dni v hrobe.

⁴⁰Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

⁴⁰Na to jej riekol Ježiš: Či som ti nepovedal, že ak budeš veriť, uvidíš slávu Božiu?

⁴¹Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

⁴¹Vtedy zodvihli kameň, kde ležal mŕtvy. A Ježiš pozdvihol oči hore a povedal: Otče, ďakujem ti, že si ma počul.

⁴²And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

⁴²No, ja som vedel, že ma vždy čuješ, ale pre zástup, stojaci okolo, som to povedal, aby uverili, že si ma ty poslal.

⁴³And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

⁴³A keď to povedal, zavolal veľkým hlasom: Lazare, poď von!

⁴⁴And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

⁴⁴A zomrelý vyšiel majúc poviazané nohy aj ruky pohrabnými povojmi, a jeho tvár bola ovinutá znojníkom. A Ježiš im povedal: Rozviažte ho a nechajte ho odísť!

⁴⁵Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.

⁴⁵Vtedy mnohí zo Židov, ktorí boli prišli za Máriou a videli, čo učinil Ježiš, uverili v neho.

⁴⁶But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.

⁴⁶Ale niektorí z nich odišli k farizeom a povedali im, čo učinil Ježiš.

⁴⁷Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.

⁴⁷Vtedy svolali najvyšší kňazi a farizeovia vysokú radu a hovorili: Čo to robíme, že ten človek robí tak mnohé divy?

⁴⁸If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.

⁴⁸Ak ho necháme takto, všetci uveria v neho, a prijdú Rimania a vezmú i naše miesto i náš národ.

⁴⁹And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,

⁴⁹A jeden, ktorýsi z nich, Kaifáš, ktorý bol toho roku najvyšším kňazom, im povedal: Vy neviete ničoho

⁵⁰Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

⁵⁰ani nemyslíte, že nám je užitočné, aby zomrel jeden človek za ľud, a nie aby zahynul celý národ.

⁵¹And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;

⁵¹A však toho nepovedal sám od seba, ale súc toho roku najvyšším kňazom zaprorokoval, že Ježiš mal zomrieť za národ.

⁵²And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

⁵²No, nie len za národ, ale aby aj rozptýlené deti Božie shromaždil v jedno.

⁵³Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

⁵³A tak od toho dňa sa uradili, aby ho zabili.

⁵⁴Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.

⁵⁴Preto už viacej nechodil Ježiš verejne medzi Židmi, ale odišiel odtiaľ do kraja blízko púšte, do mesta, zvaného Efraim, a tam sa zdržoval so svojimi učeníkmi.

⁵⁵And the Jews' passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.

⁵⁵A bola blízko Veľká noc Židov, a mnohí išli z toho kraja pred Veľkou nocou hore do Jeruzalema, aby sa očistili.

⁵⁶Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?

⁵⁶Vtedy hľadali Ježiša a shovárali sa jeden s druhým stojac v chráme: Čo sa vám zdá? Že naozaj neprijde na sviatok?

⁵⁷Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.

⁵⁷A jako najvyšší kňazi tak i farizeovia boli už vydali rozkaz, aby to, keby niekto zvedel, kde je, oznámil, aby ho chytili.
