¹Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

⁴Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

⁴Ljubezen je potrpežljiva, dobrotljiva; ljubezen ni nevoščljiva, ljubezen se ne hvali, se ne napihuje,

⁵Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;

⁵ne vede se nespodobno, ne išče svojega, se ne da razdražiti, ne misli hudega,

⁶Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;

⁶ne veseli se krivice, a veseli se resnice;

⁷Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.

⁷vse pokriva, vse veruje, vse upa, vse prenaša.

⁸Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

⁸Ljubezen nikoli ne mine; če pa so darovi proroštva, ponehajo, ali jeziki, umolknejo, ali spoznanje, preide.

⁹For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

⁹Le po nekoliko namreč spoznavamo in le po nekoliko prorokujemo;

¹⁰But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

¹⁰kadar pa pride, kar je popolno, tedaj premine ta nepopolnost.

¹¹When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

¹¹Ko sem bil otrok, sem govoril kakor otrok, mislil kakor otrok, razsojal kakor otrok; odkar sem pa mož, sem opustil, kar je otročjega.

¹²For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

¹²Kajti sedaj vidimo še skozi zrcalo, kakor v uganki, takrat pa bomo z licem v lice; sedaj spoznavam le nekoliko, takrat pa spoznam popolnoma, kakor sem bil tudi jaz spoznan.Sedaj pa ostane vera, upanje, ljubezen, to troje; največja od njih pa je ljubezen.
